Not to phone 101 for failed glass test

Mamabear4180 · 27/07/2018 10:08

I'm posting for traffic sorry but need advice. My 3 year old has failed the glass test, she has a blotchy red rash everywhere, even on her face which has come up this morning. The last few days she has had a high temp, highest was 39.4 but since yesterday afternoon no temp and no calpol. She has autism so can't tell me how she feels, she just keeps saying 'dr brownbear'. I can ring 101 but stuck at home without transport for another hour, I have a 2 year old as well. What shall I do?

Phone them. Now. They will send an ambulance if necessary.

elephantfan · 27/07/2018 10:09

I would phone 101.
Better to get advice sooner rather than later.

Phone a taxi and go to A and E.

TheHobbitMum · 27/07/2018 10:09

Absolutely phone, now!

RedPandaFluff · 27/07/2018 10:10

Phone 111 straight away and follow their advice.

DannyDogg · 27/07/2018 10:10

Phone them now! Or taxi to a and e

UrsulaPandress · 27/07/2018 10:10

I'd phone 111

triangulator · 27/07/2018 10:10

Sounds a bit like a post viral rash. BUT there is no way I'd risk it. And I'm very laid back about stuff like this. If it fails the glass test, call an ambulance.

Sirzy · 27/07/2018 10:10

She needs to be checked, get a taxi or a lift or whatever but if it is something serious an hour could make a massive difference

Mammyofasuperbaby · 27/07/2018 10:10

Your child may have meningitis. That isn't something to be taken lightly. Phone them now!

TokyoSushi · 27/07/2018 10:11

Just adding to the chorus of 'please phone straight away'

Hope she's much better very soon.

Bobbiepin · 27/07/2018 10:11

Failed glass test means a&e. Kids turn very quickly. Forget 111, call a taxi or an ambulance.

Justanothernameonthepage · 27/07/2018 10:11
  1. Take 2yo with you and see if anyone can meet you to look after her. But A&E. Hope your already there
Coconutcreampie · 27/07/2018 10:12

It's likely that the rash is not anything serious, there are many many other types of rashes that fail the glass test, HOWEVER if in the unlikely circumstances it is the dreaded sepsis/meningitis rash you will NEVER forgive yourself for delaying treatment. Call now

Kidneypain · 27/07/2018 10:12

Call your GP and ask for an emergency appointment?

Orangesox · 27/07/2018 10:13

Well 101 as the police non emergency number won’t be of any use.

Call 111 immediately, they can arrange taxi transport in emergency situations that don’t require an ambulance if that’s what’s required. Do not wait and see, do not risk your child not receiving the care they need.

(Ex 111 Clinician who’s arranged multiple taxis for people needing to get to A&E when they don’t need ambulance transport)

Mamabear4180 · 27/07/2018 10:13

Thanks very much, calling 111 thanks so much everyone appreciate it

When is your transport arriving?
I'd ring round neighbours or friends and get a lift to a walk in clinic.
If she's asking for doctor brownbear (which I am guessing is from Peppa pig) she's telling you she feels ill.
It's not fun taking both children in but I've had to do it a few times and my youngest has ASD. Pack a bag of treats, water, and anything that might distract them. At our local walk in they prioritise children so hopefully it won't take too long.

Chrissy93 · 27/07/2018 10:14

101 is for the police. 111 is for poor medical advice. 999 for an ambulance.

Notonthestairs · 27/07/2018 10:15

Spent so long typing x post! Good luck Op.

OurMiracle1106 · 27/07/2018 10:15

Please please take her straight to a doctor NOW! A close friend of mine was misdiagnosed when I was a child and they didn’t make it. It was indeed meningitis. I’m 100% sure a doctor would rather see many a child with heat rash/viral infection/allergy than just one who was taken in too late

elephantfan · 27/07/2018 10:17

Oops. I always get 101 and 111 mixed up.
Hope your dd is ok OP.

If the blotchy rash is not blanching, she needs to go to AE straight away, it can't wait another hour.

Sometimes it's easier to stretch the skin between your fingers (to see if it blanches) than to do a glass test. A non-blanching rash will not be fade in appearance at all, no matter what stretching or compression you apply to the skin.

If you can make the rash blanch, all of it, and she is otherwise well (alert, no fever, not pale or cold, eating and drinking) then you don't need to do anything really.

pieceofpurplesky · 27/07/2018 10:21

Hope all is ok OP

KitKat1985 · 27/07/2018 10:37

Chances are it isn't serious, but she absolutely does need to be checked out asap just in case.
