cheap European city break?

Bimgy85 · 26/07/2018 20:56

Simple as that really.

Was thinking Amsterdam but seems too expensive in terms of living , food and drink.

Any recommendations for a 4 night stay in a European city? With lots of stuff to see and do, cheaper standard of living?

Krakow, Poland

Nicknacky · 26/07/2018 20:58

Kraków! I was there last week and really impressed at all the things to do and see and the prices were amazing. Spent £330 for myself and my 11 year old daughter and we didn’t skimp, could have saved on that if we had wanted to.

Budapest was good value when I went in May. We ended up taking taxis everywhere it was so cheap.

Ylvamoon · 26/07/2018 21:07

Depends on your budget. We did Rome 3 nights £ 250.- each for flight and B&B in city centre mid October. We did spend a lot on food ... by choice. And pre booked main sites from home over a 4 month period to spread costs, 3-4 hour guided tour (private!) was around £ 120.- But having said that, there are tons of cheaper things to do and see...

Cologne. Good food, good drink and easy to get to via Eurostar.

JennyHolzersGhost · 26/07/2018 21:12

Zagreb or Lviv. Both seriously under appreciated.

thirstyformore · 26/07/2018 21:13

We went to Gdańsk in Poland earlier this year. It was great!

Berlin

Prague.

Guacamole2506 · 26/07/2018 21:15

Budapest!

Shylo · 26/07/2018 21:16

Lille - short hop on the Eurostar, lovely town to wander around for a few days

LoveInTokyo · 26/07/2018 21:17

When are you thinking of going?

userofthiswebsite · 26/07/2018 21:18

There are lots of cheap tickets £29 each way on Eurostar at the mo. Quick trip to Paris.

userofthiswebsite · 26/07/2018 21:19

Amsterdam was about £80 return. I know as I looked at it yesterday :-)

Highpeak · 26/07/2018 21:20

Porto

Nicknacky · 26/07/2018 21:21

user when was that for and where from?

Sidneythecam · 26/07/2018 21:21

Krakow 😍

Corneliawildthing · 26/07/2018 21:23

I've just booked for the two of us to got to Budapest. For flights and 4 nights in a 4 Star hotel, it was just under £600.

SenorBork · 26/07/2018 21:23

I’ve just booked a cheap break in Brussels - hotels very cheap, travel not too bad. I’m hoping actually being there won’t be too pricey either!

WaitedForGodot · 26/07/2018 21:27

Lisbon is dirt cheap and ace.

LoveInTokyo · 26/07/2018 21:28

I was going to suggest Lisbon too but not before about October.

Somethinggoodorfunny · 26/07/2018 21:29

Gdańsk! We just booked flights £23 return each and the hotels are cheap too! Plus it's astounding how cheap it is once you get there and lots to do too! :-) not far from a little spa town ( I forget the name ) and we have done a day there before :)

Dopplerineffect · 26/07/2018 21:32

Just back from Budapest. Shocked at how cheap it is.
Yes there are the tourist traps but in general so much cheaper.

jarviscockatiel · 26/07/2018 21:43

We went to Sofia in May. Was very pleasantly surprised by how lovely the city was as well as how cheap it was. I highly recommend the free walking tours. We did one of the city and another of the local mountain. Just gave a tip at the end which was fantastic value.

Bimgy85 · 26/07/2018 21:48

Really want to go Amsterdam but can't stomach paying €100 a night for a hotel with a shared bathroom , then on top of the expensive food/beer

Is Amsterdam expensive to go out and drink and eat? Also, if I stayed in Amstel is that too far or is there 24/7 transport services?

Was thinking Budapest or Kraków too.
Thinking of going mid October. Budget would be €300 for hotel and flights are okay as I've checked them
