I can’t get to a hospital until tomorrow evening - I am stuck at home with my 2 young DS’.

I have an abscess in my bottom lip. Yes, you heard me right my lip!! I was prescribed flucloxacillin antibiotics on Tuesday morning when the infection arose.

My lip is swollen x4 of its usual size. It is very painful to the touch, red and slightly weeping. It is full of pus.

I feel ok within myself - no fever, chills etc but a little nauseous.

Still taking antibiotics and alternating paracetamol and ibuprofen.

Is there anything I can do to naturally draw the pus out? The pressure and swelling is massive - I think this is what is knocking me sick.

No swelling to the rest of my face its located all inside the bottom lip.

Any help is appreciated.

Please please do get it seen today that looks like it needs assistance. Sepsis can take hold quite quickly. Do you have minor injuries you can get to or go to a&e that's going to need help to get better.
GP's and nurses aren't allowed to lance stuff on the fly nowadays. That's what I was told when i went in with an infected finger

Yutes · 26/07/2018 11:02

Hot compress of saline solution.

The antibiotics might be making you feel sick. I would go back to docs and get them to swab. There might be more effective antibiotics you can take

aperolspritzplease · 26/07/2018 11:04

Jesus you need to see someone ASAP can you not get to gp?

longwayoff · 26/07/2018 11:21

Yes agree. Not home remedy. Go GP now.

Discretion · 26/07/2018 11:23

Oh wow you poor thung!!

OneThreadOnly0101 · 26/07/2018 11:25

Fucking hell OP! Ignore my earlier advice, you are beyond epsom salts. Drop in clinic or emergency GP appointment please!

Scared2BeHomeless · 26/07/2018 11:46

I can’t leave the house, my son is unwell and fast asleep on the sofa. Im trying to get some help but my sister who would usually step in is at hospital with her partner because he has a collapsed lung. Nightmare.

OP Seriously is there anyone, neighbour, friend who can get over to stay with your son because that really needs to be seen. Anyone?

Nousernameforme · 26/07/2018 12:00

What's wrong with ds? Is there any way you can bundle him up and taken him with you? Not ideal but needs must.
Where is his father is he on the scene at all?

TinklyLittleLaugh · 26/07/2018 12:03

Is it a piercing infection? My kids have lots of facial piercings and I worry about this sort of thing.

Ohyesiam · 26/07/2018 12:04

Op it should have started to improve with abs by now. If no improvement get it seen ASAP .
Warm police will draw pus but get it seen.

Wishiwasonholiday1 · 26/07/2018 12:09

That looks very painful and you really need medical attention ASAP.

Could you go to walk in centre or hospital when your son wakes up? I know not ideal but you don't want it to get any worse.

Sending get well thoughts!

Scared, you do really need to prioritise getting this seen today. I know it's hard when you have a poorly kid too, I've been there, but you cannot ignore this and hope it will go away or somehow not get worse.

It's on your head, where your brain lives, and it's a huge swelling. Spreading swelling and infection can be, in some cases, very dangerous, and actually life threatening.

I'm trying not to be alarmist here, but you need to let go of your reluctance to disturb your sleeping poorly child and go to a walk in or your gp, really now, not even later on today.

Your son is better off having one bad day feeling poorly and made to sit in a waiting room with a bowl and a blanket than weeks with you in intensive care battling overwhelming infection or sepsis that could have been prevented.

I feel bad for being pushy with you, and I know you are feeling vulnerable, but you need help, and you're not seeing this straight becasue your system is giving it's all to fighting this off, leaving you little to think it through.

I get it, I really do, but please go and get help now.

pieceofpurplesky · 26/07/2018 12:39

You need to go and get it seen to. Take your DS with you

kaytee87 · 26/07/2018 12:43

How ill is your son? How old are the kids?

PotteringAlong · 26/07/2018 12:45

Take your DS with you. I don’t think he’s as ill as you are now. Honestly, you need to go to the hospital.

Snowysky20009 · 26/07/2018 12:46

Please OP listen to what others have said. We are one month along from losing a child to sepsis in our family. It really takes hold at lightning speed.

daisyboooo · 26/07/2018 12:46

Hun you need to go A & E like ASAP- or walk in clinic .... I was going to advise to
try to pop it yourself but looking how big it is that is quite serious & you definitely need a nurse with sterile equipment to deal with that. The puss needs to come out! Sleeping kid or not, you need to get your child up & go. Sending Thanks

Xmasbaby11 · 26/07/2018 12:48

Wake up your son and go. It could get serious quickly.

Cheerbear23 · 26/07/2018 12:53

I second what everyone else says about sepsis. Get seen today and ASAP, I think this takes priority .

Gigis · 26/07/2018 12:55

Does your gp surgery do home visits? Seriously I would call them and explain the situation. This is well beyond home remedies! Flowers

LakieLady · 26/07/2018 12:57

Another one for getting that seen to asap, OP. It looks bloody awful.

If the ABs you were prescribed were going to work, it would be getting better by now, so they're clearly not. You can't mess about with infections like that.

Where's the DCs' father? Can't he come and look after them?

FannyFifer · 26/07/2018 13:14

I'm a nurse, and also a total sporner, u need to get that looked at ASAP, that is way beyond anything I would be dealing with at home.
What's wrong with DS? Can u bring him with you.
You absolutely must get that looked at today.

CrabbityRabbit · 26/07/2018 15:30

Please go in. DS will be fine.
