Oh my goodness those stairs!

Love the led lighting up the side

MrsMotherHen · 26/07/2018 09:53

them stairs look like a space ship.

LakieLady · 26/07/2018 09:59

Those stairs remind me of a scuzzy south London club I used to frequent in the 80s. I can almost smell the stale beer and Brut from here.

DontCallMeCharlotte · 26/07/2018 10:02

Most of our house was decorated with Fablon.

In the 1970s.

SealSong · 26/07/2018 10:05

Fucking hell what a shit thread, looking down your noses and laughing, posting pictures of people's real homes? How superior of you all.
How would you like it if someone created a thread laughing at your home decor and posting pictures of your home?
Some people don't have much money to spend on their homes so have to be creative with cheap resources. So what if their taste is not like your taste?
I don't like the gltzy fablon look but so what, each to their own.

PolkerrisBeach · 26/07/2018 10:08

We put Fablon in our house.

In my defence, I used it to cover very boring wooden shelves inside a cupboard. It's colourful and practical and makes me smile. But I wouldn't dream of doing my cupboards or stairs with it! Paint's cheaper and looks nicer.

Allthatsnot · 26/07/2018 10:12

YABU to pay so much attention to the fablon when all those ceiling tassle light things are being made Grin

causeimunderyourspell · 26/07/2018 10:16

A girl on my Facebook did her stairs with those crazy triangles!! I thought WTF? But obviously she's on that page Grin bless

ShotsFired · 26/07/2018 10:16

I got banned from that group(1)!

However there are plenty others... Grin

I want to shake some people who think putting wallpaper behind gas hobs is a clever idea, for example. Or who spend hours and days making garden furniture out of pallet wood which will just collapse in a few months.

(1) - I posted once about a room that I described as a "disco operating theatre". Guess where I saw it....

MaisyPops · 26/07/2018 10:17

seal
I wouldn't tale pictures of my home and put them on the internet.

If people put photos to essentially a public group then people will have an opinion on things. People can't have it both ways 'I'll share a photo of this and it's fine for me to have a hundred aww hun it's lush comments but nobody can saything against my style'.

We didn't have much money as a kid. Our house looked just fine without excessively glittery tat.

It's not about people who don't have money. It's a certain style people are commenting on. (I also dislike the fashion for white kitchens and bifold doors. It's all very clinical to me, should I never voice that or is it fine for me to have tjat view because it seems to be a feature of middle class new builds?)

pennycarbonara · 26/07/2018 10:19

Aren't those Fablon-ed stairs hazardously slippery?

I used to really like Fablon as a kid. It was good to cover up textures I disliked. (The Fablon had to have the right texture as well. Smooth but not shiny.)
These days though, too much unnecessary plastic.

Intrigued by those striped cupboards and how they would have been done. One of those things that could be interesting to see in someone else's home, but would hate to have in mine.

Bossyboots88 · 26/07/2018 10:21

I actually like the spaceship stairs Blush I did my kitchen tiles in black fablon about 4 years ago and it's still on now. It was a cheaper way of changing the colour without ripping the kitchen apart. Each to their own though eh.

Lanaa · 26/07/2018 10:22

I got banned from that group. I was devastated. I've now made my DP join so I can look and laugh at the fablon and cut up CD's.

Babyg1995 · 26/07/2018 10:22

I know what group you mean I'm in it you think fablons bad I seen someone post a pic of the left over laminate flooring they decided to put on there living room wall[confused

TeddyIsaHe · 26/07/2018 10:22

Every single living room on there is grey, with pale grey floors, crushed velvet curtains and sofas, with mustard cushions. It’s utterly hideous!

dinosaurkisses · 26/07/2018 10:28

Ah now, Fablon has its uses! I’ve used the plain white stuff to cover a horrible dark-varnished built in cupboard in dd’s room when I couldn’t be arsed stripping it and repainting.

The DIY group is something to behold though. I rub my hands in glee when I see a post entitled “Not to everyone’s taste but...”

Shitonthebloodything · 26/07/2018 10:31

I don't think it's snobbery at all! I've used fablon on my work surfaces before (not patterned) and it looked great as a temporary measure, i actually used some of the poundshop stick on tiles in my kitchen this time - they were even reduced to 50p a sheet Grin they're sat behind a glass splashback to stop them looking cheap and tacky though. There's a difference between doing things on a budget and being all out nasty!
My whole kitchen/diner cost me under £80 to decorate.

peachgreen · 26/07/2018 10:33

Um... am I the only one who secretly loves those stairs?! I mean, I wouldn't have them in my own house but once upon a time, pre-husband and kids, I would have loved a glittery LED-lit staircase. Grin

dangermouseisace · 26/07/2018 10:47

YANBU my kitchen cupboards had gloss paint/fake wood fablon on when I moved in. It was horrible. The worst thing was, the women from the council said that the kitchen had only recently been put in Sad. Took me ages to get it off, and then I had to paint all the cupboards when really that’s not my kind of thing. That said, @bossyboots88 how did you fablon tiles? I had to paint mine (they looked like someone had vomited on them due to colour/pattern) and the paint keeps chipping/doesn’t stick to bits where they got clear mastic on the tiles.

Lanaa · 26/07/2018 10:50

Are they still using wall paper as flooring?

Pandakin · 26/07/2018 10:55

I didn't know glitter grout was a thing until today. Shock
