Cat poo

We've got a cat and for the past month someone keeps delivering cat poo in a bag to either our front door or the back garden. This has happened 4 times already. I get this must be annoying, especially if you don't have cats... but is posting the cat poo back really okay?! Also, how does that person know the poo they bagged belongs to our cat? There must be tons of cats roaming in the area. I'm at a loss at what to do and have 3 young dc, so finding bagged up poo around our property is not on. My aibu is what would you do, if a cat frequently visited your garden? Would you take back the offending poo?! If the person who did it was genuinely upset, I'd buy cat deterrent supplies and do what I can. But honestly, he's a cat, I can't police her everyday.

I have 3 young dc and dont have a cat. I would be mightily pissed off if i kept finding cat poo in my garden! If a neighbours cat kept shitting in my garden and i knew whose cat it was i would def be bagging it and bringing it back. You would be upset if my dog shit all over your garden, cant say i blame the neighbour really!

ArfArfBarf · 24/07/2018 13:54

I haven’t personally done this but I can understand the temptation. As someone who also has 3 young dc it’s pretty shit to have to poo pick after someone else’s pet before they can play in the garden or have them come in with it on their shoes. We had two cats “marking” our lawn with their shit and it was one of the reasons we moved house. Maybe they know it’s your cat because they’ve caught it in the act. The same two cats used to use our garden every day so I got to know who the culprits were. I picked up so much of their shit off my lawn I could tell which of the two it was from the turd. Envy not envy.

If I could be sure which cat is was, then yeah.

But honestly, he's a cat, I can't police her everyday

Cat proof the garden. Keep him in. Litter train him.

Babymamamama · 24/07/2018 13:57

So you object to cat poo on your property but it's ok on someone else's? Is this a reverse?

Sunkist12 · 24/07/2018 13:57

I get that and it must be horrible. But what else can I do? I can't follow my cat around and force her to stay indoors! Before we had a cat, we had the same problem. But I'd never do what has been done to my property. Just wish they'd tell me and I would help as much as I can.

Cat proof your garden

Sunkist12 · 24/07/2018 13:59

I don't object to him doing it on my garden, he does and I clean it up if I come across it. The cat is litter trained, thanks. She goes out on an evening and may do her business outside.

Ate you sure they are actually cat faeces, and not hedgehog ones? Every cat I’ve ever owned has carefully buried its faeces, sniffed the ground, and then buried them deeper if it detects any remaining trace. The same with litter trays - buried carefully under a pile of litter. Cats are clean and fastidious, unlike dogs...!

They may bury it at home but outside their territory they leave it.

Twinkie1 · 24/07/2018 14:01

Babdoc I wish you'd explain that to the disgusting black and white furry hedge that keeps shitting in my hebes.

Sunkist12 · 24/07/2018 14:02

Yes, I'm disgusting Hmm so basically I'm wrong for letting my cat go out for a few hours now and then? I discourage my cat from entering other peoples properties when her see her doing this, but other than locking her in I'm unable to.do so.

According to DH, cats can legally poo anywhere, dogs can't, so just ignore it.

Why can’t you can’t proof your garden? Cat still goes out, but only wrecks your garden

Cats, foxes, badgers etc are wild roamers and people need to accept they naturally accurate where there is a garden. The bagged up poo is fair enough if petty and passive aggressive so I’d just put the bags in the bin and ignore the pointed message. There’s nothing you can do. I’m sure that neighbour is perfectly happy for your cat to kill and remove rats and mice from their garden....

Amanduh · 24/07/2018 14:04

Our neighbours cat spends 80% of it’s time in our garden. It is now pooing in our flowerbeds. I wouldn’t bag up the poo but it is frustrating, we have a small very into exploring DS! So I can see why they get annoyed. It’s the only cat ever in our garden. I don’t want or have the money for deterrents so if anyone has ideas on easy ones for that i’m all ears!

Timeforcalm · 24/07/2018 14:04

I am tempted every day to do the same. Our neighbours cats shit in our garden and I was forced to clean it up daily while pregnant so my toddler could play out there. DH clears up before work but they come back through the day to lay some more. It’s so gross.

wrenika · 24/07/2018 14:04

Are they going around digging it up? Any cat we've had has buried their mess. We've never come across it, it's never been an issue - either from our own cats or other cats crossing our garden. Anyone who bags it up and returns it sounds a bit nuts, personally.

What you could try to do is cat-proof your garden if possible, but that's not suitable for everyone. You could invest and make a cat-run outside where they can leave the house and go into an outdoor area that they then can't escape (I've seen people call this a 'cat conservatory' or something like that.) But they are both investments which I don't really see as necessary unless you want to do it. I don't know what you can do but I'd be tempted to throw the bagged poo back at the neighbours garden if I knew who was doing it...but that probably wouldn't end well!

Sunkist12 · 24/07/2018 14:05

For the last time my cat is litter trained. And uses her litter inside my home. However, on the occasion she does go out I can't stop her going. I'm not saying it's right and I agree it must be annoying. But I would help whoever it is with supplies to stop this happening.

OP posts:
HoleyCoMoley · 24/07/2018 14:05

At least they bag it up, I am forever chucking out old cat shite, I don't know which cat or cats are responsible but if I kept seeing the same cat and knew who it belonged to then yes I would unhappily bag it up and leave them to dispose of it.

NoelHeadbands · 24/07/2018 14:07

There’s nothing you can do. Be grateful that they’re bagging it and hope they get fed up eventually.

JacquesHammer · 24/07/2018 14:07

So cat proof your garden. Everyone is happy

Confusedbeetle · 24/07/2018 14:08

This is ridiculous. Cats will go wherever they want. You cannot police them or locke them in your garden. They do normally bury their waste. If the person is doing this without telling you it is their problem ignore it. If they tell you, give them permission to spray the cat with a SMALL WATER ONLY spray, if and only if they see the cat defaecating in their garden. Posters who call you disgusting need to grow up a bit
