Waiting for DHs vasectomy and using condoms. It slipped off. We have a 7 week old so I'm very fertile apparently. Such a stupid mistake but I need to known if DH can go for the morning after pill for me tomorrow or if I have to go myself. Does anyone know pleade

It is available otc here where I am Dancing, but not readily available on shelf. You have to request it from the pharmacist

And you have to complete a questionaire, it specifically asks if you are a rape victim.

Not sure if this is the case in UK or not.

Roomba · 23/07/2018 08:01

Honestly, don't be embarrassed! They see everything in pharmacies and morning after pills won't phase them in the slightest. I had to go in with my toddler and they were 100% professional (despite DS asking a million questions about what I was doing!). I did have to take it there and then but they usually take you in a side room for the questions anyway. I certainly wasn't asked whether I was a prostitute or went to orgies Confused

noselimit · 23/07/2018 08:04

I'm just really embarrassed and didn't want to go for it with a toddler and 7 week old in tow

Oh. Im sorry OP but that's ridiculous. Don't bother wasting your GP's time, I genuinely thought there was a reason you couldn't go when I suggested that.

diddl · 23/07/2018 08:05

If he was going to go in, can't he have the kids then so that you can go in alone if that's easier?

(How does having a 7wk old make you very fertile?)

sadeyedladyofthelowlands63 · 23/07/2018 08:05

You have to go and you have to take the pill there in front of them
I've needed it twice, once ten years ago and once more recently. On neither occasion did they make me do this.

AnElderlyLadyOfMediumHeight · 23/07/2018 08:08

Exactly what Imchlibob said upthread. There's no 'shame' in this.

emma2939 · 23/07/2018 08:09

They gave me the option round here (north west) take the tablet in front of them and it was free of charge or buy it and could take it with me. Confused unless its to stop you getting it and selling it on who knows....

YorkieDorkie · 23/07/2018 08:10

I'm just really embarrassed and didn't want to go for it with a toddler and 7 week old in tow

I think it would be considered very sensible to go for it!

yikesanotherbooboo · 23/07/2018 08:14

It is not ideal to sell without a consultation as choice of emergency contraception depends on day of cycle/ length of cycle/ number of 'episodes' of unprotected sex/ plan for ongoing contraception/ past medical history etc. It is complicated. GP consultation is not unreasonable but obviously the sooner the better so emergency appointment or at least a call- back or else as everyone has said , just go to the chemist!

MsHopey · 23/07/2018 08:20

I wouldn't worry.
Surely the embarrassment now is better than having an unwanted child.
My only accident was when DS was 6 weeks old, condom split. I went straight up to Morrison's pharmacy and brought it for myself.
My only embarrassing bit was when he asked when the accident was, and I had to say "twenty minutes ago"! Literally just went straight there because the quicker it's taken the more effective it is.
Surely a grown woman in a long term committed relationship who has a condom mishap can get the morning after pill without embarrassment. And I don't mean that with disrepect, more like bite the bullet and sort it out.

3stonedown · 23/07/2018 08:22

There's really no shame in it! Surely it's better than a toddler, newborn and pregnant with a baby you don't want?

hibeat · 23/07/2018 08:27

Go get you pill. The questions are not terrible - they are completely related to your health - and they will not be shouting them across the pharmacy. It's very quick, your contraception did not work you are ensuring that you take a emergency contraception that will, you are not pregnant, yet. This is exactly what you are supposed to do, Why would you be ashamed of that ? It's a pill like any other pill, nobody takes headaches pills in the middle of Tesco. A two minutes sweat (if you really want to ) is not worth all that angst. Especially in your situation they will be understanding. If you go at nap time it will reduce the chance of nasty behaviour. OR this is the time to put him on your phone with angry birds or Soda crush saga (Ultra Extreme emergency).

MyYoniFromHull · 23/07/2018 11:02

I felt embarrassed when I got it too Blush I was over thirty and also had a newborn.
I had just forgotten that I needed contraception because I'd spent ages pregnant and not needed it... But avoiding pregnancy was important enough to just go anyway

Witsendmummy · 23/07/2018 14:50

Well after a night fretting I was at the pharmacy door at 8 am for the MAP and it really was not worth my worrying! Thankyou all for the replies!

thumbs up !

LadyRussell · 23/07/2018 17:14

@FrissionChips

You have to go. When I went to boots for it the pharmacist asked me if I was a prostitute or took part in orgies hmm

They ask EVERYONE those questions - don’t be so judgemental.

FissionChips · 23/07/2018 18:43

Eh? How is what I said judgmental LadyRussell? Confused

Loraline · 23/07/2018 18:52

And, no they don't @LadyRussell !

sadeyedladyofthelowlands63 · 23/07/2018 19:23

They ask EVERYONE those questions

They really don't!

LadyRussell · 23/07/2018 19:36

We did when I worked in a GUM clinic.

The Hmm face about being asked those questions.

FissionChips · 23/07/2018 20:00

What exactly is judgmental about Hmm face?

LadyRussell · 23/07/2018 20:36

Why did you post the face?

FissionChips · 23/07/2018 21:36

Explain the judgment you felt I made using Hmm face.

LadyRussell · 23/07/2018 21:40

Why would you object to being asked if you had “orgies” (pretty sure that would not have been worded as such) which are not illegal as far as I know or being asked if you are a sex worker - surely it’s good all these bases are being covered?

LadyRussell · 23/07/2018 21:43

The Hmm face suggests both these things are way beneath you.
