To ask what your favourite nail varnish is

I don't wear the stuff but have lately noticed so many lovely colours and starting to think it would be nice. What's your favourite brand and colour? I literally haven't worn it since I was a teenager so have no clue.

I agree with Spam, Seche Vite for top coat.

I find essie the best quality- lasts really well. Haute in the Heat is a fab hot pink.

If you wanted to try out something a bit cheaper to start with, Barry M has terrific colours and even Primark varnishes aren't at all bad.

The royals also use Essie apparently.

Best topcoat by a mile is Sally Hansen quick drying top coat in the bright red bottle.

I'm currently wearing opi I am what I amethyst, which is a light pastel lilac.

Essie Rosebowl, OPI Ink, OPI Oktoberfest and OPI Cajun Shrimp.

I always use Jessica as find it goes on really easily and lasts well on me. Favourite colours are Street Swagger (dark red), Buck Naked (pale brown), Monarch (grey) and current top choice is Surfer Boys n Berry which is a beautiful light blue...perfect for summer!

I wore an Essie one on a recent holiday, did base coat, top coat the lot. It was awful, had a chip even before I arrived.

I don't own it but the prettiest nail varnish I ever saw on someone else was called I'm Not Really a Waitress by OPI. It looked like liquid glass - sooooo pretty.

I use Sally Hensen as a base coat, then an OPI (I adore Rich and Brazillian, but I can't find it anywhere anymore). Sally Hensen quick dry top coat makes it touch dry. I always finish off with Elegant Touch quick dry spray. Not expensive, but it works. My nails will now last 7 days, sometimes a bit longer.

OPI Sleigh Parking - makes me feel like Uma Thurman dancing with John Travolta in Pulp Fiction.

Oh Cabana Boy by Orly for toes. It's the hottest of hot pinks and slightly iridescent.

Rose Poudre by Maybelline Super Stay 7 Days gel nail polish. It's almost a neutral dusky pink colour.

Sally Hensen Double Duty base and top coat.

Chanel is a waste of money unless you buy long wear version & long wear top coat, but even then you can only get 3-4 days on hands without chipping. Essie seems chip proof to me as are some of the cheaper non gel rimmel colours.

OPI. Buy their top coat too it helps ensure it doesn’t chip. Essie as 2nd choice.

Neutrals ! I have realised that a Nude or beige lasts way longer and looks good for summer

Trick is to use a base and top coat to make it last

Currently using a Dior (fancy) but rinmel and OPI also good

The newer Chanel formulas are great. I use Revlon gel top coat which is great. I'm super allergic to Seche Vite - to the pp who said wearing nail polish on her fingers gives her excema, have you tried using ones which are 3/5 free? That's what used to happen to me and I eventually found out it was an allergy to formaldehyde resin which is in the majority of polishes.

Anyway, my current favourites are Chanel Neon Rose (limited edition so I've stocked up), Mavala Paris (lovely strawberry red) and Mavala Marron Glace which is a sort of iced coffee colour.
