My neighbours have this airer type thing drilled into the wall outside their flat window, I am in a gf maisonette and they are in a single flat above me. Anyway it really bugs me as they hang washing on it but things like bed sheets/towels etc so it hangs down and covers my bedroom window and i just think its horrible. Anyway I havent felt I could say anything about it but this just takes the piss, I was in my room and started hearing rain, I was sadly excited as it hasnt rained here in ages, anyway I went downstairs to get my washing in but to my surprised it wasnt rain at all. I looked up and my neighbour has hung a saturated top on the airer that is literally dripping into my garden. its clearly soaking wet as it was enough for me to think it was rain! How can people be so rude! its right dripping down outside my garden door so it would wet you if your going in and out and is landing on my kids foam play mat. Aibu to be annoyed?

YANBU that's ridiculous having it hanging over your window or so wet it was actually dripping. I've lived in flats with no outside space and no dryer it's a hassle but I didn't drape my sheets over my neighbours windows!

BrownTurkey · 20/07/2018 20:52

Politely ask them not to let larger items hang so low? And to wring items out.

PoisonousSmurf · 20/07/2018 20:53

Next time anything dangles in front of your window, pull it down...Hard!
And leave it on the floor. That will teach them.

TestingTestingWonTooFree · 20/07/2018 20:53

Do you have any restrictions in the lease about outside/washing?

Butterflykissess · 20/07/2018 20:55

Im not sure as mine is council but theirs was bought by someone and they are renting but I think they are related to the owner.

I’m failing to see why you haven’t simply just knocked on their door, introduced yourself then politely said “just FYI, is it possible to hang your washing higher / folded / whatever, as it covers my window” (gentle smile)

Why don’t you speak to them??

BarbaraOcumbungles · 20/07/2018 20:58

If you can each it from your window pull anything they hang out off and leave it in a pile on the floor. Cheeky fuckers.

WereAllBladesArentWe · 20/07/2018 20:59

YANBU. I'd be inclined to do what Smurf said....

Butterflykissess · 20/07/2018 20:59

Sometimes I cant have my window open as the washing blows in! Picture of the item...

Pathetic I know but ive had issues with previous neighbours before moving here that made my life hell so I have been biting my tongue.

Wtf, rude neighbours!

My house has restrictions in the planning that washing cannot be hung out the windows at the front - check your deeds for restrictive covenants

honeylulu · 20/07/2018 21:02

Squirt it with ketchup

If not smoking, then get some offensive incense.

didyouseetheflaresinthesky · 20/07/2018 21:16

Get a mouthful of crisps and chew well, Add some Lucozade. Swoosh round mouth. Fake spew, loudly and violently out the window onto washing. It won't happen twice. I recommend Nik naks. Grin

I guess their problem is they don't have anywhere else to hang it - agree that it's annoying for you

NoLightInTheTunnel · 20/07/2018 21:21

Ugh, my upstairs neighbours do this. Except it's usually a huge big dripping wet rug hung over their balcony and hanging into my garden. And she once left the bloody thing there for around 3 months - every time it rained it got wet all over again. I asked her a number of times, and she just kept saying she's waiting for her DH to bring it in. Drove me nuts.

Butterflykissess · 20/07/2018 21:23

literally none of the other flats do it except them!

NellWilsonsWhiteHair · 20/07/2018 21:23

I agree that it's really annoying and thoughtless. Am confused by posters suggesting you throw it on the floor etc as a first course of action, rather than simply talking to them, though!

CocoaGin70 · 20/07/2018 21:25

You need a chimnea under it.

PoisonousSmurf · 20/07/2018 21:27

Can't they hang it over their bath? We used to do that in the 80s. They even make special pull out lines for that.

PositivelyPERF · 20/07/2018 21:27

Take up smoking and blow the smoke out of the window, up towards the clothes. Start spraying cheap perfume on the clothes. If they complain, tell them that you have a scented candle in your window and that must be the smell, but no, you won’t stop lighting it.

Monkeypuzzle32 · 20/07/2018 21:28

I once viewed a ground floor flat and in the side return the upstairs neighbour had a washing line hanging so that the clothes were hanging down like you've described, I wrote that flat off as a no straight away because of that.

Butterflykissess · 20/07/2018 21:28

Just went to get my own airer in from the garden that was placed just outside my door which is now full of wet clothes thanks to them Confused and I slipped and almost fell on the play mats that are now also soaking wet.

Light a BBQ right under it!
