My neighbours have this airer type thing drilled into the wall outside their flat window, I am in a gf maisonette and they are in a single flat above me. Anyway it really bugs me as they hang washing on it but things like bed sheets/towels etc so it hangs down and covers my bedroom window and i just think its horrible. Anyway I havent felt I could say anything about it but this just takes the piss, I was in my room and started hearing rain, I was sadly excited as it hasnt rained here in ages, anyway I went downstairs to get my washing in but to my surprised it wasnt rain at all. I looked up and my neighbour has hung a saturated top on the airer that is literally dripping into my garden. its clearly soaking wet as it was enough for me to think it was rain! How can people be so rude! its right dripping down outside my garden door so it would wet you if your going in and out and is landing on my kids foam play mat. Aibu to be annoyed?

Go and say something. Otherwise nothing will change because they don’t know it’s annoying you.

Butterflykissess · 20/07/2018 21:34

Surely its just common sense? there is no way they are not aware!

Mil lives in Europe and in her apartment complex, all the washing lines hang so that washing almost reaches windows of apartments before. However there is a hard rule that washing cannot be dripping wet when pegged out. You need to put a polite note through their door I think, or not so polite if it continues.

BackToTheFuschia7 · 20/07/2018 21:44

Is the garden communal or your private one?

How about one of those canopies that people put above a door? They aren’t expensive.

BackToTheFuschia7 · 20/07/2018 21:47

Like this?

Wtf, rude neighbours!
Aridane · 20/07/2018 21:47

Butterflykissess · 20/07/2018 21:48

I’m in a minority of one here, but it sounds like a mountain/molehill situation. You can see their washing out your bedroom window - how often are you in your bedroom awake? This is a common arrangement on the continent where the washing lines are outside the window.

Butterflykissess · 20/07/2018 21:55

It hangs down and covers/blocks my window. Surely most people wouldnt like that.

This exact post has been posted before.

I wouldn’t like it blocking my living room window, but I honestly wouldn’t bother about the bedroom. I only go in there at bedtime, and I pull the curtains.

NewYearNewMe18 · 20/07/2018 22:06

I've read this thread before, ages ago

bellabasset · 20/07/2018 22:06

My mother had a washing line from her upstairs kitchen window over her tenants garden. Their washing line was attached to the same post below.

But washing wasn't left out for days and it didn't overhang a window. This was shortly after WW2. My parents bought the house in 1948 with sitting tenants.

You almost fell and your going to have to rewash/dry your clothes ? Think you need to speak to them about it, even if it is to point out the safety aspect.

Knittedfairies · 20/07/2018 22:33

I thought I’d seen this before.

Booklover18 · 20/07/2018 22:38

Does it really matter that much? I think you are being a little unreasonable here, sorry 😐
