to wonder why 'emetophobes' are everywhere on MN

Why does every second person on Mumsnet seem to declare themselves an emetophobe? Does anyone actually enjoy vomiting? I would have thought that everyone hates getting sick, but to label oneself emetophobic is overly dramatic in most cases?

Haber what kind of therapy did you do? It’s so rare I hear stories of successful treatment so I’m very interested in what type of therapy you underwent.

If it helps, my emetophobia (moderately severe) has got better as I've aged. Now I'm post menopause, it's almost at a stage where I'm largely unaffected, as long as I wash my hands frequently.

So maybe you can sort of grow out of the worst of it? Or maybe I just don't have enough hormones to get anxious about too many things these days!

Zap mine has too, my dc’s are now older, I no longer stand in the playground listening to people talking about there child having a bug. Since becoming a single parent I have had to accept that I have to deal with it if one of us is sick but it happens less now the dc’s are teens. I go out more to places I wouldn’t have gone too before, I still don’t use public transport though. It’s still there but it no longer takes over my life.

CBT, twice. First time was unsuccessful, second time led to some extra counselling sessions to deal with childhood stuff and has worked.

Haven't RTFT but has anyone got a fear of feeling sick, not actually being sick? I feel nauseous quite often and I literally cannot cope with feeling sick, makes me panicky and anxious so I often have to go make myself sick just to try make it pass. I've tried googling it before but only emetophobia comes up. Does anyone else have this?!
