Embarrassed by the shakes

Not really an aibu but posting for traffic. In the last few weeks I've been suffering badly from 'the shakes'. My hands mostly (so bad I sometimes can't manage to roll a cigarette or drink a cup of coffee without it going everywhere) but also the rest of my body; knees knocking and torso shaking.

Then twice in the last week or so I've been walking and my right leg/foot starts to feel 'dead' - like it's fallen asleep iyswim. It gets steadily worse to the point where I'm scared to cross a road in case it gives up and I fall. I managed to sit down when it happened this morning but it still doesn't feel right- it's a bit numb but I can walk normally.

I have a pretty unhealthy lifestyle atm. My depression has worsened and I'm not eating properly. Alcohol reduces the shakes but it's not a long term solution. It's just so embarrassing. I ordered breakfast in a cafe this morning and struggled to cut up the food and bring the fork to my mouth, so ended up eating with my hands and leaving most of it.

Google is scaring me. Could be Parkinson's... MS (Which my nan had). It really is debilitating and embarrassing. I'm only 30 ffs.

You need to see a doctor.

PositiveVibez · 20/07/2018 14:16

You need to make an appointment with your GP Asap!! Nobody on here can give you a diagnosis.

I know it must be scary, but you need to know and start to treat it.

Sparklfairy · 20/07/2018 14:18

I know, I wasn't really after a diagnosis. Just a moan I guess. I hate going out in public atm. Gp appointments are like gold dust but I'll see if I can get one next week.

Book a dr app right now and tell her/him what you had told us. Very important you go ASAP

BlueUggs · 20/07/2018 14:19

When you say alcohol helps, how much alcohol are you drinking and how often?
Other than the shaking and the dead sensation, do you have other symptoms?

nearlyfiftyjeez · 20/07/2018 14:19

Tell the receptionist it is urgent, and it is compared to all the other ear infections/ sore throats they usually see

Prestonsflowers · 20/07/2018 14:22

Please stop using Google and see your Doctor.
I understand the fear and scariness but please make an appointment.
Ok you say you have an unhealthy lifestyle, that doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t have help for whatever it is that you may have.
With a proper diagnosis then you can get help or medication

Sparklfairy · 20/07/2018 14:25

BlueUggs not really. I suffer badly from anxiety so originally put it down to that. Then I thought maybe alcohol withdrawal (15ish units 2-3 times a week but the rest of the week alcohol free) but I have it every day. Also considered my blood sugar levels, but even after I forced myself to have a 'decent' breakfast today it hasn't helped. So I've finished work and have had a pint, and it's the only thing that's helped. I can now bring the glass to my lips without spilling it or having to hold it with both hands! Shock

There's absolutely no way I'll get seen before next week at GP

How much alcohol do you drink?

Cut down on the coffee.

Oakmaiden · 20/07/2018 14:31

That may be true - but phone anyway.

Sparklfairy · 20/07/2018 14:32

That's what I thought. It's the only way I'm coping atm. Otherwise I literally go 72 hours without sleeping.

That was in response to Randyharrisonfan

Poor you, it might go too much alcohol, whatever it is you need medical help now. Please call 111 and tell them how this is affecting you and be honest about how much you drink alcohol, coffee and smoke.

glintandglide · 20/07/2018 14:33

My BF has this (muscle shakes, not the other things you describe) and it’s nothing, so try not to worry too much, but do book in with your GP. Tell the receptionist what’s going on and seee what they advise- the GP might be able to do a telephone consultation sooner

EmeraldVillage · 20/07/2018 14:34

You need to see a doctor urgently

PaintBySticker · 20/07/2018 14:34

Don’t listen to possible diagnoses here. We can’t know. Please tell the receptionist you’re worried about this and ask for the soonest appointment. Good luck.

glintandglide · 20/07/2018 14:35

If you drink 2/3 times a week it’s not the DTs. Do you mean you are drinking daily at the moment but used to drink 2/3 times a week?

Bombardier25966 · 20/07/2018 14:36

15ish units 2-3 times a week

Are you being entirely honest with yourself? That's far too much in itself, but 15ish suggests it's more likely 20 or more.

picklemepopcorn · 20/07/2018 14:36

I'm not diagnosing you. However, my son has a benign efficient tremor. He was told by paediatrician that it would improve after an alcoholic drink. As he was 14 at the time, that wasn't an option! However, beta blockers were available if he needed them as they have the same effect and are used by people like instrumentalists to manage the shakes before a performance.

Don't assume the worst- a quick trip to the GP could make a big difference!

PaddyF0dder · 20/07/2018 14:36

Could it be alcohol withdrawal?

HoleyCoMoley · 20/07/2018 14:36

It is not nothing, something is causing this. The g.p. receptionist cannot give you medical advise.

ConciseandNice · 20/07/2018 14:39

I don’t think that would be enough for DTs, but the numbness is something serious (I’m thinking MS). You need to make a GP appointment urgently. I have experience of this. Please see a doc.
