Parking

Afternoon all

Can't believe I'm writing a parking thread but here goes (diagram attached)

Come home from work to find I can park in my usual space as some knob has parked across it.

It's not an 'official space' as not a dropped kerb etc but as there is communal parking the other side of the road I'm a bit Hmm as to why they haven't parked there. Tried knocking on NDN door to check if they have visitors but no answer

AIBU to be annoyed?

Doesn’t sound like they have parked illegally so as frustrating as it may be they have done nothing wrong

PullMyFingerPlease · 19/07/2018 15:04

Yes because it’s not ‘your ‘ space

SoozC · 19/07/2018 15:05

If it's not a dropped kerb they can park there. Frustrating you can't park where you normally park but not much you can do.

PitterPatterOfBigFeet · 19/07/2018 15:11

Maybe they didn't notice? Even if it isn't illegal it's incredibly inconsiderate to park there when they could have easily parked in the communal parking.

DobbyLovesSocks · 19/07/2018 15:11

Fair enough. It's just bizarre as there about 6 communal spaces literally 5 feet away. Just have to wait for them to go so I can move my car

KeepServingTheDrinks · 19/07/2018 15:11

I assume you park in space marked X?

Why don't you park on your drive? Which it looks like you can still access.

I don't want to be mean, and i hope your issue is resolved, but it's hard to give appropriate sympathy when there is a current thread running with massively superior diagram-age. Sorry Flowers

DobbyLovesSocks · 19/07/2018 15:13

Sorry should explained better. Hubby parks on drive as he has bigger car. My drawing skills aren't all that

OP posts:
happypoobum · 19/07/2018 15:15

Is your house the one marked with the drive? why aren't you parking there? It looks like the person has parked legally. I can't see the problem to be honest. Confused

If NDN had a visitor who had parked there, would you really have had the cheeky fuckery to tell/ask them to move? Shock

GlassSuppers · 19/07/2018 15:15

Couldn't you block your DH in while you wait for the other car to move?

If it's not a proper parking space they they've not done anything wrong.

Sirzy · 19/07/2018 15:16

I assume you have parked in the communal car park? So why do you need to move the car?

JuneBuggy · 19/07/2018 15:16

So it’s not your space and your DH can still access your drive?

YABU

OneOvoidOwl · 19/07/2018 15:17

It isn't your space (frustrating though it might be). Why don't you park on the drive?

DobbyLovesSocks · 19/07/2018 15:23

@happypoobum yes I would have asked them to move. I don't think it's unreasonable in the sense that they have parked on the road when there are designated parking spaces literally across the road -ignoring my annoyance completely.

Ooh am I a CF? Good to know Blush

OP posts:
DobbyLovesSocks · 19/07/2018 15:24

@Sirzy because when I come back home later and the communal spaces are full I will have no where to park. I park there to avoid taking up a communal space.
As soon as we have the money we will be applying for a dropped kerb to make it officially a second space

OP posts:
Sirzy · 19/07/2018 15:25

But if your parked there now what’s the issue?

happypoobum · 19/07/2018 15:27

Yes Dobby you are Grin

You don't own that bit of the road. Anyone can park there. Do you get that?

agedknees · 19/07/2018 15:28

Maybe the person who parked there has mobility issues and wanted to be near a house?

Yabu. It’s not your space, it’s just a bit of road.

BitOutOfPractice · 19/07/2018 15:32

Maybe they didn't park in the communal spaces because they aren't visiting / don't live in the flats?

Sorry YABU. They have parked perfectly legally and reasonably.
And good luck with getting the kerb dropped! Confused

Quartz2208 · 19/07/2018 15:38

Anyone can park there why should you be able too. I would be really annoyed if I were your neighbour and you requested that

Not only a CF but an entitled one

chemenger · 19/07/2018 15:38

Do you drive over the pavement to access this non-parking space? How was this person meant to know that you expected to be able to do so, and why should that stop them parking perfectly legally. I don’t think they are the one in the wrong here.

Stephisaur · 19/07/2018 15:39

Maybe the communal spaces were full when they arrived?

I get where you're coming from, but as it's not an official space I don't think you can be that cross. Sorry!

ChelleDawg2020 · 19/07/2018 15:41

Even if you have a dropped kerb the police won't be interested if someone has blocked you from accessing your space.

The Highway Code (para 243) says " DO NOT stop or park" blocking the entrance to a property but DO NOT is purely advisory. Telling you common sense things that normal people wouldn't do anyway. They are not the same as a MUST NOT which does carry legal weight.

BadgersPaws2 · 19/07/2018 15:41

"Do you drive over the pavement to access this non-parking space? How was this person meant to know that you expected to be able to do so."

Driving over the pavement where this isn't a dropped curb to access a parking space is illegal. The person who parked there would have had no reason to expect that someone would be breaking the law and so would see no reason not to park there.

And even if they did realise that people were breaking the law and driving over the pavement there to access the parking space would that stop them from parking there? Should they help someone to break the law?

Biker47 · 19/07/2018 15:43

Pay to have your dropped kerb extended if you don't want people parking there.

SD1978 · 19/07/2018 15:45

Sorry- I think you're verging on being the CF. Maybe the person didn't want to park in the communal spots as they assumed they were for residents. Maybe they just didn't want to. You can not expect someone to move from outside your house juts because you've designated it as yours. On what basis would you get a dropped curb if there is no driveway? They don't juts stock em in as far as I'm aware? Unfortunately you juts need to go out, and if they are still parked there when you get home, then park in the communal parking across the street. I wouldn't be accosting the legally parked driver of the car.
