Parking

Afternoon all

Can't believe I'm writing a parking thread but here goes (diagram attached)

Come home from work to find I can park in my usual space as some knob has parked across it.

It's not an 'official space' as not a dropped kerb etc but as there is communal parking the other side of the road I'm a bit Hmm as to why they haven't parked there. Tried knocking on NDN door to check if they have visitors but no answer

AIBU to be annoyed?

Also you do realise that a dropped kerb won't make it a space right? in fact it will make it officially NOT a space....

DobbyLovesSocks · 19/07/2018 15:46

It's all good they've moved and I've moved my car. They were visiting NDN. All the houses except ours have double drives so getting the kerb dropped won't be an issue when the time comes it's just previous owners only had one car and we can't afford to at moment.

Ignoring my annoyance which was my original AIBU which I accept I probably am, AIBU to be annoyed that they had parked in the road ignoring the six or so empty communal spaces which were literally five feet away?

soupforbrains · 19/07/2018 15:47

unless the place where you are currently parking is UP the kerb in which case it sounds like you're parking on the pavement which wouldn't be allowed regardless of dropped kerb or not.

BreakfastAtSquiffanys · 19/07/2018 15:49

It's not an official parking space as there is dropped curb.

To use a wonderful phrase I read on a similar thread "you don't have off road parking, you have a patio with aspirations"!

borlottibeans · 19/07/2018 15:49

If I didn't know the area I would be more inclined to park on the street - where it is definitely legal - than some off road spaces in front of flats which for all I know are private property and could result in a fine or an angry person with a big dog.

catlady34 · 19/07/2018 15:50

I'd be annoyed at that, it's not illegal but it's just plain rude if it's clear that they're blocking the entrance to your space.

M3lon · 19/07/2018 15:51

does anyone know where the last parking thread with the 6 cars has gone?

BreakfastAtSquiffanys · 19/07/2018 15:52

It's not an official parking space as there is NO dropped curb.

Quartz2208 · 19/07/2018 15:52

But the empty communal spaces are for the flats imagine if a flat owner came back and could not park?

butlerswharf · 19/07/2018 15:55

It's illegal to drive over the pathway onto a property where there is no dropped kerb. So you are definitely being unreasonable.

OneOvoidOwl · 19/07/2018 16:00

Yes you are being unreasonable - they can choose to park where they did. It isn't your space

HeresMe · 19/07/2018 16:03

I agree the communal spaces look like are communal for the flat residents only not for you or anyone else.

And it appears they were visiting next door neighbour and parked on road which is fair enough, so you were being YABU.

BentOutOfShape · 19/07/2018 16:15

YABU. As you have graciously conceded.

It's no more unreasonable for them to park there and not in a communal space that for you to do so.

Hygge · 19/07/2018 16:21

I think YABU because you went knocking on doors to make them move when they were legally parked on the road and anybody can park there.

They might not have realised the communal spaces were for the houses as well as the flats.

Mind you, this weekend I had a family of three screaming abuse at me for parking on their street, which they claimed was residents only when it isn't, so I'm feeling a little sensitive about people who think they own the road outside their house.

diddl · 19/07/2018 16:22

"AIBU to be annoyed that they had parked in the road ignoring the six or so empty communal spaces which were literally five feet away?"

Are they not for the flats?

If so, why would they park there?

If they're not for the flats then you can park there when necessary!

HeresMe · 19/07/2018 16:57

They might not have realised the communal spaces were for the houses as well as the flats

Seeing as the houses have drives I doubt they are .

SoozC · 19/07/2018 17:00

YABU. It doesn't matter if there were empty spaces in a car park across the road, they can park where they like as long as they weren't blocking a drive. Which they weren't. You can be annoyed but you would have been unreasonable to ask them to move.

If they can park in one of the empty spaces across the road, why can't you?

Winterbella · 19/07/2018 17:03

How will you even get a dropped kerb here if this is not part of your garden/drive I don't see how you would be allowed to incorporate the footpath into your drive.

KeepServingTheDrinks · 19/07/2018 17:05

Here you go M3lon All good (for now). They seem to have driven off!

OP, please note @JennaTools's superior diagram usage

TheLionRoars1110 · 19/07/2018 17:10

Yabu!
Seriously OP, they legally parked closest to where they needed to go, which is natural and sensible.
Don't say anything to your neighbours it'll make you look a CF

DobbyLovesSocks · 19/07/2018 17:16

@Winterbella the piece of land I park on leads directly into my back garden. This is the piece of land most of my neighbours have had converted into a second driveway

Thanks all for your replies. It seems I'm an entitled CF. Ah well

"They might not have realised the communal spaces were for the houses as well as the flats."

@HeresMe - "Seeing as the houses have drives I doubt they are."

That's true, they probably are just for the flats, but the OP has written her posts as though the spaces are for anybody. It would make more sense for them to be for the flats though.

I should have said in my other post, to make it worse the people who shouted at me actually shouted at me for parking outside their neighbours house, not even theirs, but apparently they believe they own the whole road.

Parking
BitOutOfPractice · 19/07/2018 18:57

AIBU to be annoyed that they had parked in the road ignoring the six or so empty communal spaces which were literally five feet away?

  • they weren't visiting the flats?
  • they didn't realise they weren't specifically designated for the flats
  • there was a perfectly good spot on the road to park on

There's three possible reasons. I'm sure there will be someone along with others.

If they are open for all why don't you park there?

YOU DO NOT OWN THIS BIT OF THE ROAD AND ANYONE CAN PARK THERE

SD1978 · 19/07/2018 18:58

Bloody hello I see the diagram ante is being upped...........

Hygge · 19/07/2018 19:02

I had so much fun @SD, I might go back and try to get shouted at again so I can make another Grin
