So ds been in nursery since Easter. Will return to same class September.

Aibu to get stuff to be used in nursery rather than another mug, notepad etc for teacher and TA's?

Would it be appreciated or would I be THAT mum?

I've bought a huge pack of sharpies, fancy whiteboard pens and lots of googly eyes, plus a bottle of prosecco each 🤔🤷🏽‍♀️

SleepingStandingUp · 19/07/2018 17:12

Well if you've bought five bottles of prosecco your budget is bigger than mine lol

Why always booze for teachers? Do your children buy booze for everyone? It’s weird! You may as well buy them 20 Bensons while you’re at it.

ProfessorMoody · 19/07/2018 17:20

I HATE receiving booze. I don't drink, nor does anyone I know. I also think it's bizarre to buy teachers alcohol!

I'm a primary teacher and I've never received classroom supplies as a present. If I did I'd find it a little unusual as, as other posters have mentioned, a gift is usually something that's to be used by the recipient, not by the people they work with! However, I'd still be really grateful for the gesture. Lots of other teachers have already said they'd love this as gift so I'm sure your son's teachers will be really happy too.

ladygracie · 19/07/2018 17:54

I think it’s a gorgeous gift and I’d be really grateful.

There's only 2 to buy for. Previously booze has gone down well as most people do drink. It could be argued that a box of chocolates is just as bad as cigarettes Hmm

A teacher friend suggested a voucher but unless there's a group a £5 voucher is a bit pointless.

SleepingStandingUp · 19/07/2018 18:31

Tbh I've spent more than I'd they'd each had a box of chocs, and my heart was in the right place. The card was heartfelt and I think she's got the measure of me enough to know it's not a PA comment on my appreciation for them.

Of any of you teachers get stationary know that it's coming from a good place.

It's lovely to send in resources for your child's classroom, there are often things that we are very grateful for parents sending in throughout the year when we're less well stocked than we tend to be in September.

Personally, I wouldn't give a classroom gift at the end of the year and try and pass it off as a thank you gift for the teacher, but then you aren't obliged to give a teacher a thank you gift anyway. Anything parents choose to do to show support for the school and the teacher should be well received.
