A Holiday parking thread

We are renting a beautiful slate cottage in a very popular holiday village.
The Cottage is at the end of a cobbled no through lane.
It comes with a paking space outside.
There is a pay and display 2 minutes walk away for 60p an hour or £5.00 per day.
Opp is a well used bakery where holiday makers and builders stop for their pasty.
Where do they park?
Right next to my car, blocking us in and entry to the rest of the cottages.
We are on day 5 of our holiday and I am sitting in the lounge drinking my coffee and counted 24 cars/builders van stopped and blocked in our car since I got up.
This is not an issue though it is far from peaceful!
The first two days we didnt move the car but since the weather got cooler we want to explore rather than spending the day on the beach.
Everytime we go out we come back to find our space is being used.
Even moving the reserved for renters of Birdlady Cottage cones the owner has left in the space.
AND every Tom Dick and Harry uses OUR bin for their pasty wrappers and dog poo.
I am a little fed up that I have to pay for the Pay and display because someone is in my space that is part of our rental!
By the time they move and we go get our car someone else is there.

So today was check out at 10.30 am, We got up at 8.30 am , had breakfast, loaded dishwasher, hoovered, stripped beds, cleaned fridge, bath and toilet, put all rubbish under kitchen sink, unloaded dishwasher, Then went to load the car, Came in had a quick last min coffee and went to leave at 10.10am, 20 mins early. We had to take the key back across the road to a restaurant the owner has an arrangement with. Outside inches away from our car is a builders van blocking us in. I'm sory but I am menopausal and I completely lost my shit!!! I put my hand on my horn and held it there for approx 3 mins when the builder waltzes across the road from the pasty shop, smirking. Everyone is staring across the road, tourists stopped in their tracks open mouthed. I say " would you like it if someone blocked you in on your drive ?" He says do you own this property? I dont know why I said it but I said " yes actually I do". He drove off smirking and parked outside the local pub. I gave the key back and complained bitterly how we had put up with daily being blocked in. The restaurant owner said I will tell O We get in the car and head off when Oakland builder follows us out of the village on our tail flashing hooting and gesticulating. Pulls up next to us and laughs and says I will tell Oliver bye from you. Nice local builders great owner Oliver!!!

Oh, how infuriating. Trouble is, in a location like that, he can probably guarantee he’ll be able to let it during summer months, but you probably paid a premium for the parking.

Lesson learned; leave a bad review about expectations not being met and difficult communication with owner.

Obviously next time, specifically check what parking provisions are made. I know a lovely luxury apartment in Ilfracombe with a gated car park that still has a week or two left for Summer 2019...

Best thing to do is leave an honest (but shitty) review; sounds like the people who own the cottage know the people who have caused you problems. Quickest way to get it resolved is to hit them in the pocket. Obviously doesn’t help you but it might make things easier for people who book after you. Hope it hasn’t spoiled your holiday.

I agree with tatty that's awful, clearly the owners know what they are letting their paying guests in for.

OMG i have been away myself so hadn't RTFT since i got back, then I see the owner's reply - basically telling you to fuck off.

I see a 2 star review on Trip Adviser coming on.
