We are renting a beautiful slate cottage in a very popular holiday village.
The Cottage is at the end of a cobbled no through lane.
It comes with a paking space outside.
There is a pay and display 2 minutes walk away for 60p an hour or £5.00 per day.
Opp is a well used bakery where holiday makers and builders stop for their pasty.
Where do they park?
Right next to my car, blocking us in and entry to the rest of the cottages.
We are on day 5 of our holiday and I am sitting in the lounge drinking my coffee and counted 24 cars/builders van stopped and blocked in our car since I got up.
This is not an issue though it is far from peaceful!
The first two days we didnt move the car but since the weather got cooler we want to explore rather than spending the day on the beach.
Everytime we go out we come back to find our space is being used.
Even moving the reserved for renters of Birdlady Cottage cones the owner has left in the space.
AND every Tom Dick and Harry uses OUR bin for their pasty wrappers and dog poo.
I am a little fed up that I have to pay for the Pay and display because someone is in my space that is part of our rental!
By the time they move and we go get our car someone else is there.

Park so your car takes more of the space so you can’t get another car in? It’s your allocated parking space so bloody space yourself out.

Also when you go get your car to park in it, any other adult with you needs to stand in the space till you get back. It’s your allocated space so it’s a perfectly acceptable thing to do imo

PeppermintPasty · 18/07/2018 12:08

Boscastle is the next village along from mine, it's always a nightmare OP, sorry, and you are staying on the main thoroughfare.

Best thing to do is go and see Gary, the manager of the Cobweb (he's the really handsome well dressed man, the only one in Boscastle) and he might be able to suggest somewhere.

PeppermintPasty · 18/07/2018 12:09

Don't make a noise in the bakery, they will laugh in your face.

Curtainshopping · 18/07/2018 12:18

Park your car so it takes up the whole space.

When you get back and someone's in it, block them in.

If they've parked so that you can't, sit there with your hazards on waiting. If they're in the bakery, they'll only be a minute anyway.

AveABanana · 18/07/2018 12:20

Must be very good pasties

Magicpaintbrush · 18/07/2018 12:42

Or...........what about if you park your car so it is at right angles to the cottage with the bonnet facing the kerb? Nobody could block you in then?

birdladyfromhomealone · 18/07/2018 14:41

The problem about parking further out or at an angle is it would then block access to the other cottages down the cobbled land as they have access to unload shopping etc to their front doors. Which is why we park so cosiderately.
The bin is chained up and full of fish and chip wrappers from next door too and now they are dumping them next to the full bin.
Shame for the owners as it really is a beautiful cottage.

I think if I was the owner I would not offer the parking space. It is not so much not being able to park when we come back but the contant noise of others pulling up, slamming doors, then starting up revveing engines and reversing back out on to the main busy road. It stats at 7am and is constant. Using our bin as a public bin etc Not the owners fault at all but the selfish acts of passers by.

OP posts:
Myotherusernameisbest · 18/07/2018 15:09

Noise is a real pain for you, that would annoy me and also getting back and someone is parked in your space!

However this bit
they just park run across the road buy their pasty and go wouldn't so much bother as they are not really parking up and buggering off to the beach for the day. It sounds like they are quick. You'd only have to wait a minute for them to return surely?

Not alot you can do about the bin TBH. Perhaps they think its a public bin?

daffodildelight · 18/07/2018 15:11

Leave a review mentioning the problems on trip advisor and don't go back again. Leave it to the owner of the cottage to sort it out with the bakery. Also leave the rubbish next to the bin for the cottage owner to sort out (and again the owner can talk to the bakery).

If you go out and someone is in the space can you sit in your car with the hazards on? Maybe beep your horn or would that annoy the other cottage dwellers?

Totally missing the point....
But their pasties are amazing.... they also do some pretty good carrot cake...

birdladyfromhomealone · 18/07/2018 23:59

There has been a car blocking us in since 5pm they have just gone now its closing time at the pub. I felt like going out and putting the cones on his roof and bonnet but my husband wouldn't let me. He says it doesnt bother him as we dont need to go out. what if we had an emergency with our dogs or indeed us? Now we just need to look forward to being woken up at 7am by the delivery vans parking up next to us and leaving the engine running.

Definitely bring it up with the owner. Sounds a PITA

birdladyfromhomealone · 19/07/2018 09:52

I emailed the owner last night and here is his response ......Dear Birdlady,
I am sorry to hear you have been having some problems. The bin outside the down stairs flat is actually for 1a and not 1b. Provision is made for putting rubbish bags in the cupboard under the sink and I arrange disposal as it is classed as commercial waste. This is all covered in the information provided. Valency Row is not a highway but it is difficult to try and stop people driving down the Row. As you have identified the car parking space is clearly marked as private and a cone is provided but people can be very inconsiderate. Generally I have not had any previous issues raised in the last 8 years of operating the property. Last night before I went to bed I moved the cones to the edge of the double yellow lines to stop the morning trade of builders popping in for their pasty leaving their engine running..... This morning both cones are missing!!

How many more days have you got?

Rowgtfc72 · 19/07/2018 17:08

Surprised people are managing to get parked to nip across the road. Pavements there are usually heaving with people!

agedknees · 19/07/2018 18:21

So have you been dumping rubbish in ndns bin? Is that why it’s full and they’ve had to leave fish and chip bag next to the bin?

birdladyfromhomealone · 19/07/2018 19:00

No AGEDKNEES

We have had scallops samphire and crab, lobster and steak, by now if I had not taken the rubbish out to find a nearby council bin his kitchen would be minging in this heat.

OP posts:
birdladyfromhomealone · 19/07/2018 19:02

Seafoiod is so cheap here from the local fisherman but honestly in this weather you wouldny leave it under the kitchen sink or in a bin chained to the front door.
Or at least I wont. in the last email I received from the owner re rubbish.........
At the end of your stay please leave rubbish bag in the bin and any additional waste in the kitchen cupboard.

Regards O

That looks like the main Street going through Boscastle- it is a very busy street indeed!

birdladyfromhomealone · 20/07/2018 10:25

Omg there is more...... having a lovely lie in this morning with a cup of tea. We hear rain on the window but it was sunny when we got up to make tea. So I open the curtains to meet the local window cleaner😅😂😂😲

I don’t think you have any alternative to leaving a review stating these things. I’m a holiday owner myself, and I would be horrified if my guests were so annoyed about they had to email several times.

I would also be furious if I hadn’t been warned about the parking issue. Our town has similar parking issues and we have an allocated space in a gated car park. Nearly everyone has commented it’s so nice to not worry about parking.

Where did you book it through? Will you be able to leave a review without the owner vetting it first?

birdladyfromhomealone · 21/07/2018 23:25

PersilOrAriel
We booked through a facebook group, owners of holiday lets in Cornwall. it got even worse this morning :(
