Non alcoholic drinks that is of course. Only healthy choices or also lemonade?

Water, squash, milk, juice. I always have fizzy in - gasp, horror - but it's mine all mine and I don't share.

HicDraconis · 18/07/2018 08:22

Water, milk, fruit juice. We don't have squash or fizzy stuff in usually as none of us like it.

littlepeas · 18/07/2018 08:27

Water!

starfishmummy · 18/07/2018 08:34

Same as my teen son drinks - water, tea, decaff coffee. Maybe milk if we have enough.

If I know someone is coming and what they like then I might get something in specially but if they just drop in then they have to make do!!

AjasLipstick · 18/07/2018 08:43

Water, milk or herbal tea. One of mine...the 14 year old, likes a cup of proper tea and she says that when she's at her mate's houses, none of the parents ever ask her if she'd like tea in the morning so she's taken to asking her friends.

We don't have any juice or squash here....we sometimes make smoothies or milkshakes but for a treat. So on a sleepover or whatever.

We have soy milk too for some kids.

PolkerrisBeach · 18/07/2018 08:45

Depends on the age of the kids. When my 10 year old has a friend over it's squash or water.

When my 13 year old has friends for tea or a sleepover there will usually be a bottle of Pepsi Max Cherry.

Blueisland · 18/07/2018 08:46

Why are people still giving kids juice?

RiverTam · 18/07/2018 09:11

Juice is from fresh oranges at home, and whether at home or out and about DD always asks for it diluted.

I would never give her undiluted juice (dentists in the family!)

DrinkFeckArseGirls · 18/07/2018 09:14

It doesn’t matter if it’s squeezed at home- once the fibre is out, the insulin response is the same as to to amy sugar. Plus you need 3 or 4 orange to get a decebt amount of juice - that’s 30 to 40 grams of sugar at least.

RiverTam · 18/07/2018 09:22

Well, feel free to tell me how many oranges I need for one small glass of diluted juice for DD (it’s one, by the way. I have a very good juicer.) The juice is less than half the glass, which is plenty. And I’m fully aware of all that about the sugar. I would say DD drinks 95% water all the time, probably more, so I’m not about to sweat a glass of freshly squeezed diluted juice. You can, if you like.

RedDwarves · 18/07/2018 09:25

Water.

Aside from milk - which no one seems to drink straight nowadays - that is all we have. I don't buy juice, soft drinks, Ribena or anything else. "Squash" isn't a thing in Australia.

thegreylady · 18/07/2018 09:27

Usually water or lime juice diluted with sparkling water or still water. There is usually orange juice but wouldn’t offer to visitors.
Milky hot chocolate is available in cold weather.

Blueisland · 18/07/2018 09:28

RedDwarves, I’m Australian too. I find the squash thing in the UK really odd. Mine just have water or milk, unless they’re out and the other kids are having squash. I wouldn’t single thrm out in that instance.

Laniakea · 18/07/2018 09:30

Yeah just water or milk because that’s all we have

Strugglingtodomybest · 18/07/2018 09:33

Water, milk or squash.

Notso · 18/07/2018 09:34

Whatever we have in.
water,
milk,
a couple of different squash flavours,
juice,
tea,
coffee,
hot chocolate,
milkshake,
soda water,
fizzy drink,
cartons of fruit flavoured water.

If they are young, under 5 maybe and the parents are there then I ask the parents what they would prefer.

MarthasGinYard · 18/07/2018 09:37

Water

Or have a bottle of squash somewhere if they don't drink just water.

AveAtqueVale · 18/07/2018 09:42

Water
Milk

If they didn’t like those choices then I’d offer squash or apple juice (which I’d water down for anyone under about 6).

Tea or coffee would be offered if we were making one anyway to anyone secondary age.

I don’t usually have fizzy drinks in so couldn’t offer them!

shinyredbus · 18/07/2018 09:53

Milk, Water (fizzy or still), innocent smoothies. Juice (apple or orange mixed with water 50/50)

CheeseAndBeans · 18/07/2018 09:58

Water, milk or squash. If it’s a special occasion we will have orange juice, fizzy and fruit shoots or the like in normally too.

Notso · 18/07/2018 10:04

DD 18 was saying the other day how it was a minefield at other people's houses when they'd offer things like juice when they meant watered down juice, Coke when they meant Diet Coke, hot chocolate when they meant slightly sweet, luke warm brown milk, or pop when they meant squash.

sickmumma · 18/07/2018 10:05

Water or squash in our house!

madamginger · 18/07/2018 10:07

Milk, water or Vimto as that’s all I buy. I very occasionally will have lemonade but only if we’ve had a BBQ or something.
My kids mainly drink water though.

JurassicGirl · 18/07/2018 10:08

Water, orange juice or squash if we have it.

EthelSpandex · 18/07/2018 10:27

Water.
Some visiting teens bring their own fizzy but mostly they seem pretty happy with water.
Teens haven't started asking for tea and coffee yet - I'd better prep the older teen about offering them.
