Fucking GP receptionists

Aibu to think they must train them to be as rude, unhelpful and patronising as possible???

Just left the GP's and I feel like caving the fucking receptionists smug cunting face in.

Yes that's probably an overreaction but they fucking wind me up on a par with dealing with the fucking council.

Seems a bit extreme?

ConciseandNice · 17/07/2018 16:06

YANBU. And ticket people at stations.

Sirzy · 17/07/2018 16:06

Hard to say without knowing details but yes I will go for your over reacting!

palomapear · 17/07/2018 16:07

Are they not failed traffic wardens?

spugzbunny · 17/07/2018 16:07

YANBU - they are all complete wank hats

Flicketyflack · 17/07/2018 16:08

They are the gatekeepers!

Frogscotch7 · 17/07/2018 16:08

My Gp’s receptionists are absolutely lovely.

Sammymommy · 17/07/2018 16:08

I thought the same last week. I am sure there are some sweet receptionists (the majority) out there. I have just never met any or heard about any. Always rude and humiliating...

SpongeAndBubbles · 17/07/2018 16:08

Receptionists at my GP surgery has always been extra rude with a cherry on top.

Everything we do seems to inconvenience them and most importantly they're very into what I'm going for.

Wouldn't let me request a female doctor without knowing why and then still refused me.

AnastasiaVonBeaverhausen · 17/07/2018 16:10

Thought this thread might be about sexual fetish....

No experience like that I'm afraid. My GPs receptionists are absolutely lovely, very kind and caring.

ICanOnlyLaugh · 17/07/2018 16:10

Lovely at mine too, if a bit officious at times.

I suspect that they cop a lot of abuse from the general public which is bound to put a dent in anyone’s friendliness at times.

theveryhighlife · 17/07/2018 16:10

I feel for you. The previous doctors surgery I was registered at had such rude reception staff.
I moved a couple of years ago so had to move surgery and I'm always surprised by how lovely they are at the new surgery.

polarpercy · 17/07/2018 16:12

I've had a mixed bag experience with them so I'm on the fence! I phoned up once in the morning as soon as the lines opened. I couldn't see - vision blurry, had a temperature, shaking, felt sick, not urinating and felt faint. To be told no this isn't an emergency and no you cannot have a home visit. Managed to get an appointment in clinic, turned up in pjs as couldn't physically get dressed. Dr took blood pressure and temp of 40 and sent me straight to hospital where I was admitted and on drips within 15 minutes of arrival. Diagnosed with sepsis and later pneumonia. GP was amazing and spoke to centre manager and demanded re-training for the person who had been on the phones.

Although when pregnant I was a high risk for pre-eclampsia and the surgery were aware. Phoned with pain below ribs, high blood pressure (was on a bp study so had machine at home which you texted results to and it gave you a happy, watch or go to GP - so I was following this) and headaches. Told receptionist I was worried about pre-eclampsia could I be seen to check urine just in case. Receptionist refused and I ended up going in to the maternity unit instead where they too ended up complaining to surgery.

Maybe I need to change surgery! On the other hand my husband has never had a problem even when he has missed appointments because he got his day wrong?!

Fintress · 17/07/2018 16:12

My GP's receptionists are lovely too. I do see rather a lot of them unfortunately as I need regular blood tests.

TheQueenSnortsAvocados · 17/07/2018 16:13

I've had to arrange emergency appointments for me and my daughter this week. The receptionists were fab, polite, professional, appropriately disinterested. On both occasions the call-back was incredibly prompt.

The receptionists, GP, practice nurse have all been great and made a hard week a little easier.

The Sainsbury's pharmacists have been a bit frustrating, but no face-caving necessary.

NecklessMumster · 17/07/2018 16:13

Make a complaint

ReginaBlitzkreig · 17/07/2018 16:14

Mine have always been nice. But now there is a new one who is super-fabulous. He deals with the horrid shouters brilliantly (think Samuel L. Jackson being all coolly unconcerned) and goes the extra mile to sort things out.

LostwithSawyer · 17/07/2018 16:14

Wow. That's harsh.
The crap they have to put up with is unreal.
They ask for a reason. If your ear hurts and Dr Smith is an ENT trained Dr than he's better than seeing Dr Jones who is a fertility drained Dr.
Give them a break.

MsFrizzle · 17/07/2018 16:16

Mine act like your arm needs to be falling off to see a doctor vs a nurse.

JacquesHammer · 17/07/2018 16:16

Mine are appalling.
Rude and incompetent.

There’s one there who is reasonable to talk to. I won’t even attempt dealing with the others

mn101 · 17/07/2018 16:17

YADNBU!!!

Every one I've met as been a jumped up not it all.

I would add any school receptionist or receptionist in maternity wards in hospitals too. (That I've met anyway)

TroysMammy · 17/07/2018 16:17

We don't get training in being rude and we don't get training how to deal with the general public who threaten you with rape and call you a bitch either.

maxthemartian · 17/07/2018 16:18

Is it an English thing that GP receptionists ask what the appointment is for?
It happened at my English surgeries but not in Scotland.
I've never had any particularly bad ones, they've mostly been nice.

I have had terrible experiences with GP receptionists. The ones at my GP now make people feel bad about making appointments and try to put them off. It's a dangerous game to be playing when you're not a doctor, I know they must be very busy but I still don't think it's an excuse.
