To keep leftover takeaway food from the indians?

Our local regular takeaway is doing a great deal with a large amount of food for £20 - but its way more than we will be able to eat so will be left with extra lamb and chicken curry, chicken pakora, rice and nan. I think we should order something else rather than having to much but dp is adamant we should get this deal and can use the leftover for the next few days? Aibu to ask is this safe or is it totally gross BlushHmm

You don't know when the curry etc was made. No guarantee it was made fresh that day.....and they may have reheated elements of the dishes. Bloody hell! Never known that to be the case. But then I've never bought takeaway in a big city. All of our small town ones have 5-star hygiene ratings and you can watch them cook through a big glass window. They everything from scratch - though I would guess that some of it is made before hand.

I do it all the time. Plus Chinese or pizza etc

PepperAndPops · 17/07/2018 17:21

In fact I eat it for 2 or 3 days after too

paceyswife · 17/07/2018 17:21

If reheated rice was dangerous my DF and DM would be in the ground. I've reheated rice (piping hot) my whole life and have never once suffered ill effects. It's like use by date hysteria.

AtLeastThreeDrinks · 17/07/2018 17:24

I always reheat Indian takeaway –I find a portion is too much once we've ordered sides and bread etc, and leftovers are the best! I just nuke it in the microwave (inc the rice)… have been known to eat it a few days after ordering and survived so far.

Bamaluz · 17/07/2018 17:24

It's not the reheating of the rice that's the problem, it's how it was cooled first. It can release toxins that are not destroyed on reheating.
Just cool it quickly and it will be fine.

justpoppngby · 17/07/2018 17:26

Dh and I regularly order enough that will leave us more for another 'takeaway' 2/3 days later.
We've never been ill reheating rice or anything. Ever. I do find it weird that people seem to make a big thing over reheating rice but likely because I've never ever known anyone being ill because of it. But anyway as long as it's cooked properly can't see a problem. We sprinkle water on the rice so it doesn't dry , cover the (metal) trays in foil place them on a baking tray and cook on 180 ish for 35 mins. I prefer oven reheating as I think the taste is improved but sometimes we just bung it all on a plate and microwave.

I'm going to go against the grain here and say give the poor Indians the food.

Sleepyslops · 17/07/2018 17:36

Cismyass... I agree... I now identify as Indian and will accept the leftovers 😁

DuchyDuke · 17/07/2018 17:38

I’m Indian. Grew up keeping boiled rice for up to a week. Rice can be kept for up to a week provided you heat it properly in small portions. Far, far too expensive to just waste like UK guidance suggests.

Trinity66 · 17/07/2018 17:40

I would keep it and eat it the next day, rice and all, it hasn't killed me yet 😜

PinkHeart5914 · 17/07/2018 17:43

We do freeze leftovers but I don't eat them dh does on the nights I'm out, his still alive!

ToadOfSadness · 17/07/2018 17:53

We always keep and re-use leftovers, Indian or Chinese, including the rice. My lunch has often been everything in a bowl with the rice at the bottom, bunged in the microwave. Sometimes it doesn't make it to the microwave and is eaten from the containers, cold, in the middle of the night.

If it is heated right through, there should be no problem with it.

DaisyRose1985 · 17/07/2018 17:59

All leftover indian takeaway gets frozen in our house! Perfect for a cba evening! Rice included.... aswell as naan bread and onion bhajis. Oh and don't forget the pickle tray, lime pickle, mint sauce and mango chutneys, I have enough in my freezer to last me for an Indian weekly for 6 months!

Enjoy the leftovers... Do the same with Chinese. We buy extra curry sauces and make our own chicken and vegetable curry with our curry sauces from our favourite Chinese takeaways Once a month! Never been ill from it!

princesspeppax · 17/07/2018 19:28
