Last night I saw a mouse run from the living room into the kitchen and under the fridge!! Only moved here 2 months ago, not seen anything in that time, no droppings anywhere cupboards etc
The back alley has communal bins, do you think it could be just one that's come in, back door has been open past few days!
I have the things!!!

All food in sealed plastic boxes and seal any obvious holes. The traps that electrocute them are good, snap traps sometimes but not always seems to work, poison can help if they will take it, glue traps can also work well (you need to check them regularly). I have lived in one house where poison cleared them completely but sometimes it seems to take traps.

Snaps dont always work but to increase your sucess put the bate side near the wall/skirting vertically dont place them horizontal as they will run round it. and change the bate everyday mice will always go for fresh food over stale nutella peanut butter strawberry chocolate are good bate. Watch your fingers the old wooden ones are better than plastic as they are not as high so they will be more tempted to go over it not around your going to hear them snap and no mouse many a time. Glue has a far more high sucess rate as mean as it may be but they are so fast and travel si close to the ground the snaps miss them and the smaller ones are so light they may not set if off i know people that have used carpet tiles with spray glue adhesives and put them everywhere along the walls at night and found the nest as they where all getting trapped near one area. He just used cooking oil to get them off but the glue does give the away as they sqeek loud when they are stuck and other come out and all importantly you cant put them over a large area and figure out where they are getting in. Nicey nicey approch wont work or you think it has then they come back the lady from birds of a feather moved because of them. But get to the structural bits then you wont have to worry about catching them because its hard to get in.

For goodness sake, grow up. Get the pest control in and let them sort it and advise you where they are getting in, No it is not a reason to break your rental contract. It is a sortable nuisance. get on with it

Ultra sonic worked for us after we used snap traps for initial clearance.Kept the rats out too.

mummamarnis · 19/07/2018 18:02

Pull that fridge out too and get the kick boards off as you said thats where the one you saw ran the kitchen is often the culprit as it is warm has food has pipes for sink washing machine ect and has areas that are not pulled out much. once they are in they start chewing holes everywhere and breed like mad once comfortable once you see one you know they are breeding and setting up 'runs' from food sources back to nest no matter how far it is they risk it even the smallest crumb is a feast to a mouse. It may be one nest there one somewhere else but even the smallest gaps especially in the kitchen needs filling. Before they stop seeking food on the ground and travel up to surfaces.

My cat constantly brings them in to play with, looses interest and they run off under the cupboards. I used to try to catch them, and was quite successful, I don't mind picking them up, but eventually got bored of moving everything out, and then when one went and died in my oven, I lost all sympathy for them. I now put down snap traps and they seem to do the job quite efficiently. The cat also gets round to catching them sometimes, if he can be bothered, but often difficult to know if the body on the floor is the one that was already in, or an additional present for mummy Hmm

Target practice, just be wary of ricochets 😄

keyboardkate · 19/07/2018 18:05

We have open fields to the back. Every Winter we got the odd intruder. They come in when the back door is open to escape the cold. They don't bother me much and they are probably field mice, and since there is nothing here for them to eat they don't stay long!

Anyway Last Summer we had some repointing done on the walls at back of the house, the contractor covered up every nook and cranny in that wall and I haven't seen a mouse since!

mummamarnis · 19/07/2018 18:08

confusedbeetle pest control did come and bated laid traps and left. They wont do the hard work for you like cleaning and hole filling and repairs they make too much money on call backs to do that. Ultrasonics may work but the issue with them is that they may just run into hiding and the holes will still be there and the poo and wee but you just dont see them. Prevention really is the best bet as hard as it is just because you dont see them doesnt mean they are not there ususally by time you see them they are set up.

keyboardkate · 19/07/2018 18:14

If you see any holes in your walls, usually around outlet pipes and cracks etc. you can pack with steel wool, or that expanding foam is also great. It can be filed down flush with the wall. But it degrades after a while.

We had them one Christmas in the cupboard under the stairs. DH spent Xmas eve in B&Q getting stocked up with traps and poisons before cleaning out under the stairs. We threw loads of bags out without even opening them, dread to think what was in them.

We have one of the plug in things and we do still keep poison and traps down under the stairs. There's fields to the back of our house and the neighbours cats also leave them around the garden.

mummamarnis · 19/07/2018 18:43

Pull back carpet lino or any floor covering near the walls and check there too especially behind that cupboard and the fridge and furniture that isnt pulled out much you can put it back after they do like areas between the floor skirting and wall have a clear out if you need too and more things on the floor pushed against walls gives them more opportunities to hide pull everything to the centre and check. Dont wait for the exterminated to come back and say 'oh some are dead from poision some dead in traps but oh look you still have trails of poo and wee and still seeing them. Be proactive while you wait for him to come back. I see the same pest people come back time and time again to a local school but the building is old and full of cracked bricks and holes so all the money they have spent on renokill would have been better used on builders to fix the place as it hasnt had anything done to it for as long as they have had mice they still havent tigged on that the two go hand in hand.
