Just that really? I'm a hairdresser and I used to love my job but now I've been doing it for 10 years I'm beginning to hate it. I wish I could retrain/switch careers but I just have no idea where to start. AIBU? Is this just how everyone feels when they get older?

I love, love, love my job but my job is very varied and although I've worked in the same sector for 14 years I've had numerous different jobs.

jetsetter87 · 16/07/2018 22:32

I love my job- work for a kind of 'lifestyle brand' but started in the company in their call centre before moving sideways then up

I have a nice enough group of people to manage clear guidance on what to do and what is expected of them and me

My manager lets me get on with it and allows me freedom to work on my own projects

Do a lot of recruitment for junior staff members which I find really interesting

Wage isn't fantastic... I work 35 hours a week and earn around 30k a year but where I live in NW and have a comfortable standard of living

44PumpLane · 16/07/2018 22:33

Ugh I hate what I do/ I’m a management accountant for a multinational and it’s bloody dull!!

Liverbird77 · 17/07/2018 09:12

I am a teacher and I hate every day. I am due to give birth around Xmas and I hope I never have to go back.

dudsville · 17/07/2018 09:15

I love/hate my job. I wish I could at least feel neutral, or even just hate so that I could be motivated to move on.

wellBeehivedWoman · 17/07/2018 09:19

I love my job, can't really imagine doing anything else. I think if you don't have job satisfaction any more you should consider a career move - life is too short to spend so much of it in a job you hate!

Mari50 · 17/07/2018 09:24

My job is pretty good but I’d never recommend the profession that I’m in to anyone. And frequently tell any work experience kids to seriously reassess their options (especially when they come to my place of work and think what I do is a true reflection of what they will end up doing)
That says it pays pretty well, is 9-5 and when I go home I can forget about work.

TooMuchSunshine · 17/07/2018 09:27

Hate my job.. Really hate it.. Used to be good and I'm sure it would be great if you like being treated and spoken to like shit.
BUT I love the people I work with.. But that's not enough to make me want to go back after mat leave.. In the process of deciding what to do...

Longdistance · 17/07/2018 09:33

I hate my job. Only because the parents are arseholes. So rude and arrogant at the same time. I like that I have term times off. Will be looking to work in another school soon.

ShotsFired · 17/07/2018 09:34

My job is interesting in a brilliant industry and uses the skills I learned at A level and university.

But what makes it are the company, my line management and the flexibility of the role. Its technically a 9-5, Mon-Fri, but my seniority makes it much more outside that - but again, I don't mind as I get the flexibility in return too. And I am paid pretty decently as well.

I am just worried it won't last forever.

pumpkinpie01 · 17/07/2018 09:37

My job has ups and downs I love it when its busy but when its quiet I do get bored but no one tells me what to do so in that respect its good plus I can go on mumsnet/facebook as often as I want !

3GreenBottles · 17/07/2018 09:40

Love my job.

Good hours, some flexibility, Ive negotiated term time only.

Great boss - supportive, protective of her team, trusts us to get on with the job (I've had bosses that micromanage previously, and I just couldn't cope with that again).

Really lovely team of colleagues who work hard and are supportive of each other.

The only downsides are that the money isn't fantastic and the progression route isn't great in my organisation. No way up unless a manager leaves and the role comes up, basically. I really need to be earning more in the coming years and pumping some cash in to my pension. My boss understands that frustration, though, and I get to do loads of external training/CPD in order to build my CV.

Sammilouwho · 17/07/2018 09:41

I love my job, to a degree. I’m not paid enough for what I do (I end up being a general dogsbody doing all paperwork for people and running groups etc) and it is super stressful at times, but aside from that the people are great. I just can’t afford to go back after maternity leave as I wouldn’t even be able to afford nursery fees.

PinguForPresident · 17/07/2018 09:44

Midwife, bloody love it (except for the short staffing and the interminable paperwork).

I retrained once my kids were both in f/t school. Loads of midwives train after they've had their own families.

speakout · 17/07/2018 09:47

I love my job.

Work part time from home, no boss, choose my hours ( self employed).
It's creative. fun, nurturing. I make more than my OH and I have lots of free tine to myself.

PinstripeElephant · 17/07/2018 09:54

Despise it. I work in aviation. It's tedious, and I find it really hard to care about.

But I can't see me finding another job that's flexible enough to allow me to do the nursery run, and moves with DH's job that that pays 40k. As soon as DS hits free nursery hours age, I'll reevaluate.

AnastasiaVonBeaverhausen · 17/07/2018 10:04

I love love love my job. Not only is it fascinating but I've reached a level that allows me to work very flexibly, part time and only during school term times.

EssentialHummus · 17/07/2018 10:10

I love it! I wfh, set my own hours around DD, most work / communication with clients is in writing, I feel I’m doing something genuinely useful, I get good feedback. Very different from previous career in City law!

StormcloakNord · 17/07/2018 10:13

I hate my job... I don't mind the work itself but the people I work with have completely ruined it for me.

I'm 5 weeks away from starting a course in an entirely different field as it's something I've always wanted to do.

Just couldn't imagine the next 40 years of my life stuck behind a desk doing a job I only barely enjoy.

youknowwherethecityis · 17/07/2018 11:14

I love my job. It is what I've wanted to do since I first started Uni and I'm so lucky I actually get to do it. I'd honestly do it for free if I didn't need the money so much!

Also it is ridiculously flexible, has excellent holidays and my boss is great.

possumgoddess · 17/07/2018 19:02

I dont like my job. Mostly I can tolerate it. Very occasionally there are days where it is quite satisfying. A lot of the time it is just awful and sometimes it is so awful I would just walk out if I didn't need the money. It has, at times been so stressful I haven't been able to sleep and have been quite ill. Mostly this is due to the people I work with, when I first started there I was subjected to a lot of bullying but I didn't realize that was what it was at the time. I don't have a lot of confidence and thought it was my fault. I know now that it was wrong and an horrendous way to start a job and I now have enough confidence to cope with most of it, but it doesn't take much to knock me down again. If I could afford to leave I would do - in a flash. So no - I don't like my job.

ThePlatypusAlwaysTriumphs · 17/07/2018 19:06

I don't really like my job Sad. I used to like it, but I'm worn out now. Would love to try something else, but no idea what. Feel a bit trapped, as my job is reasonably well paid, so hard to walk away.

glitteringlight · 17/07/2018 19:22

out of interest and some ideas anybody care to share what they actually do?

OP posts:
AnastasiaVonBeaverhausen · 18/07/2018 07:50

I'd love to as I bore on about it to anyone who asks (not that anyone understands it when I do!) but I'm in a niche field and one of very very few women so it would be massively outing unfortunately.

Xtrah0urzz · 18/07/2018 11:25

I enjoy my job and it enables me to pay my bills and luxuries. I work shifts, so my job enables me to enjoy time with family, friends, hobbies. A year ago I was made redundant, so I am grateful to have my current job
