Centre Parcs and beehive in lodge wall.

We arrived Friday and noticed a few bees around our patio are at the back of the lodge but didn’t think much of it. Over the next couple of days we started to notice bees going into a hole in the wall beside the back bedroom and steam room, suspected it was a hive so told guest services. They have confirmed its bees and just to leave it alone.

Today numbers have increased to hundreds of bees. We can’t open the window in the back room, we can’t use the patio or steam room because there are well over a hundred bees out there. They are all over the wall and roof

I know we need to looks after bees. I like bees but to be honest I’m not happy we now can’t use the outside area or the stream room. The buzzing inside the bedroom wall is pretty loud and there is also a musty smell now. I know they can move bees to a safe location if it’s a problem and I suspect this will only get worse over the summer months.

So AIBU to think the staff would arrange for something to be done to move the bees to a safe spot away from the internal wall of a lodge?

Shit - which one?

MrMagnoliasBoot · 16/07/2018 16:39

If they don't want to disturb the bees (understandable) then surely they should move you somewhere else. You clearly can't fully used the accommodation you have paid for and this is not on.

Tighnabruaich · 16/07/2018 16:39

Can they call in a bee expert who can move the hive/queen?

ShottaSheriff · 16/07/2018 16:39

Well I think they should move you to a different lodge ASAP! I got attacked by angry bees once, cycling past an area with hives and as a result I’m very nervous around them. This would be my worst nightmare and I wouldn’t be at all happy about the risk of being stung! Can they move you?

Ginger1982 · 16/07/2018 16:41

Demand a move or a refund.

flumpybear · 16/07/2018 16:42

Tell them you want to be moved .... treehouse!
They've good customer relations I'm sure they'd accommodate you

Pascha · 16/07/2018 16:42

Have you told them the extent of the problem? Filmed it on your phone and shown them or got someone from guest services to actually view it in person?

TammySwansonTwo · 16/07/2018 16:43

You should absolutely insist they move or refund you. You can’t utilise the accommodation properly.

GladAllOver · 16/07/2018 16:43

Insist on a move. Leave the bees alone.

PeonyTruffle · 16/07/2018 16:43

I would insist that they move me, definitely kick up a fuss

If they don't want to move the bees then they move you!

ThanksForAllTheFish · 16/07/2018 16:52

I am planning to film them and show guest services later. The ranger was round earlier but only a few bees around then and he said they won’t bother you and just ignore them (I wasn’t in it as MIL and FIL).

I am just starting to gain my confidence around bees after many years of being terrified of them (my mum is allergic to bee stings and had passed her fears onto me).

We are a large group and have 2 lodges next door to each other booked out. Still I would be happy to move if it came to it.

We are in Sherwood for the person who asked.

*it was MIL and FIL that spoke to the ranger

We had a much smaller issue than yours at a Center Parcs and they moved us the same day to an upgraded villa so get on the phone to them ASAP.

NicoAndTheNiners · 16/07/2018 16:57

Well when there were only a few bees it seems reasonable response from them. Now it’s different, so tell them! They currently don’t know there’s hundreds of bees.

tenterden · 16/07/2018 16:58

I would pack up all your stuff and present yourselves to reception asking for a new lodge. Makes it much more difficult for them to say no if you say you cannot return to the one you have vacated.

I am off to Longleat soon so wanted to be prepared!!!

soapboxqueen · 16/07/2018 16:58

Depending on the bees they might not be able to move them but they should move you to a different lodge.

CP are usually pretty good so take a picture, go to guest services and explain the issues about the noise also and say you want to be moved.

Miggymoggymugwumps · 16/07/2018 17:06

We had the same scenario several years ago at Elveden, the difference being it was wasps in the DC's bedroom ceiling.
We kept finding dopey ones on the floor & all over the bed but Reception kept trying to fob us off saying it wasn't possible!!! Anyway after we insisted that there was a nest a contractor was eventually called out & in conversation said he'd been to that very villa a week earlier & had treated the infestation. So we were getting all the dying ones dropping down from his earlier visit.
Armed with that info we reiterated how unacceptable it was & they didn'tt argue.....and moved us to another villa, sent over a hamper and gave us a voucher for another holiday! So we ended up with a decent result but had to really push for it in the beginning!!

Chocolate1984 · 16/07/2018 17:08

Our neighbour had a hive which caused no issues. I had been lying outside on a blanket picked up the blanket & disturbed a bee which stung me somewhere. Within seconds more bees arrived stinging me and eventually I was covered in bees. I was screaming, I couldn't see, my parents were whacking me with cushions trying to get the bees away to drag me in the house. Once in the house the bees were still on me and in my hair. It was horrific. I'd demand to be moved.

chocolateworshipper · 16/07/2018 17:09

Definitely mention the allergy to bee stings - they won't want to get sued. They should move you to a different villa and then get a bee expert in to move them (this is entirely possible without killing them).

itchyknees · 16/07/2018 17:11

Upgrade upgrade upgrade!

BewareOfDragons · 16/07/2018 17:12

Demand an immediate move, with assistance, and a partial/full refund for their failure to act immediately.

We'd have had to leave entirely if they didn't move us! Allergies to bees can kill!

Jaxhog · 16/07/2018 17:14

Tell them someone in your family is allergic and that you need to move NOW.

Coyoacan · 16/07/2018 17:14

Insisting on being moved.

I live in Mexico and the fruit stalls are usually full of bees. The workers leave a bit of cut fruit out for them and they all congregate there and leave us alone.

ThanksForAllTheFish · 16/07/2018 17:27

chocolateworshipper - just to clear up. My mother is allergic but she is not with us. I was talking about her fear of bees (due to allergy) being passed on to me. I have spent years working on not being scared of bees. I can tolerate them now and have done things like feed exhausted bees sugar water etc.

The numbers of bees have now calmed down. We are back to about a dozen out on the wall so I think earlier must have been the bees returning for the day - ‘Rush hour’ at the hive. I’m still reluctant to let the kids out to play or use the steam room.

I don’t think MIL will want to move as we are very close the the centre. I am still planning to film them when the numbers increase. This will be an on going issue for them all summer with guests who stay here so I do think they will need to deal with it.
