To think this is a tiny bit rude?

Just gone in neighbour's van to a local Quarry as he offered to show me where it is - it's a popular swimming spot and I didn't know how to get there. On our way back and he's pulled off onto a small road which it turns out leads to his friends house. He says "I'll just nip in and say hi" - then disappears off inside! He's been gone for 20 minutes now- isn't this cheeky? I don't know this friend! I thought we were going home!

At least the view is nice...

Yabu he did you a favour!

Blizzardagain · 15/07/2018 12:20

That's sounds really strange. I'd leave tbh, can you get out and walk? Something about it makes me uncomfortableConfused

QOD · 15/07/2018 12:21

Weird!
And don’t swim in the quarry. People drown

cornishmumtobe · 15/07/2018 12:21

That's really weird!

Sparklingbrook · 15/07/2018 12:21

YABU a bit because it was nice of him to show you.

Sparklingbrook · 15/07/2018 12:22

YY you shouldn't swim in quarries ideally.

SneakyGremlins · 15/07/2018 12:23

Of course as soon as I post he returns! Actually off home now..

SerenDippitty · 15/07/2018 12:23

Yes he is being a bit rude, but you do know that swimming in quarries is dangerous, right?

KurriKurri · 15/07/2018 12:23

I think it's rude. Doesn't matter that he did you a favour. if He'd said 'I'll take you to the quarry but I'm stopping to see a friend on the way back and you'll have to wait in the car' you;d have had the choice of either not going, or taking a book and a packed lunch ! He didn't make clear what his plans were.

SneakyGremlins · 15/07/2018 12:24

I wasn't going to go swimming in the quarry, more paddling!

I wouldn't have minded a "Do you mind if I just nip and pick something up from my friend" because that would honestly have been fine but you don't just go!

I have thanked him for showing me.

Wildlingofthewest · 15/07/2018 12:24

You are being unfair and going swimming in an old quarry is beyond stupid.

Royallypissedoff1 · 15/07/2018 12:25

Favour or not, it's rude!
Also why would you swim at a quarry? Don't you read the news?

SneakyGremlins · 15/07/2018 12:26

Okay, I won't go swimming! Promise!

We're almost home now anyway - next time I'll say I have something I need to get back for.

@SneakyGremlins

YANBU and this would have pissed me off too. Like someone said, he could have at least TOLD you he was going to stop off at some random's house (leaving you in the car,) then you could have decided whether to go or not.

Why did he not take you in with him? Hmm

Very rude to leave you waiting. Especially in this heat!!!

PerfectlySymmetricalButtocks · 15/07/2018 12:28

20 minutes? You could have spent that time MNing! 😂

agedknees · 15/07/2018 12:29

Depends. Maybe he was just going to say hi, but his friend has asked for help with a job. The fact that he’s taken you to the quarry shows he’s a kind person who helps if people need it.

ScreamingValenta · 15/07/2018 12:29

My guess is that he didn't intend to be so long but the friend kept him chatting.

ReevaDiva · 15/07/2018 12:29

He should have taken you in and introduced you Confused

SneakyGremlins · 15/07/2018 12:32

I'm home now! Unscathed Grin

I do think he wasn't necessarily planning on being long, but still....

Royal Life Saving Society UK Water Safety

Unexpected water temperatures and unseen hazards etc. Even the experienced open water swimmers who participate in the Thames Tidal swims have safety kayakers (kayaker here).

WildCherryBlossom · 15/07/2018 12:55

Why is swimming in a quarry more dangerous than any other body of water? (Apart from the fact that it is likely to be stagnant and mosquito ridden). There are no currents or tides... surely less risk of drowning than elsewhere.

WildCherryBlossom · 15/07/2018 12:56

Ah @arranfan crossed post. Reading your info now
