to ask if you run water while brushing teeth?

A suggestion from our Water Board is to save water by not running the tap while brushing teeth.

Does anyone actually do that? The running water thing?

Typical bitchy response from Christmas there when she's called out on making a nonsensical post.

If you want to say don't waste water as we may face a shortage, then say it honey. Don't say because kids globally are drinking dirty water then try to pretend you meant the U.K. might face a hose pipe ban.

🤣

c3pu · 15/07/2018 22:06

I only turn the tap on if I need water.

As soon as I don't need water I turn the tap off.

Can't understand why someone would piss away clean drinking water for absolutely no reason whatsoever.

ChristmasTablecloth · 15/07/2018 22:16

What on earth are you saying Bluntness? Perhaps have a strong coffee and a good night's sleep before you try again. I haven't been "called out" for anything on this thread.

You are saying you don't care about letting clean water run away for no reason because it won't help people without water in Africa. I am saying it has nothing to do with that! All the little bits we do in the first world don't add up to much for people in desperate circumstances in the third world. But wasting natural resources when it is SO easy not to is just taking the piss.

Bluntness100 · 15/07/2018 22:37

Doesn't letting fresh clean drinking water run down the drain bother you even a tiny bit, when there are children drinking dirty water worldwide

For gods sake, this is what I was referring to, why you felt the need to jump in and call me a twat and attack I've no idea.

I really can't be arsed to argue with you. Just keep going . I really give less of a shit than you'd like.

FairySpringer · 15/07/2018 22:40

No, I don't.

TrudeauGirl · 16/07/2018 10:11

No it's a terrible waste of water. And I think the world will face a water shortage in the future the way we are going Sad

FourFriedChickensDryWhiteToast · 16/07/2018 10:37

" why you felt the need to jump in and call me a twat and attack I've no idea. "

well that was my comment you quoted but I can assure you that at no point have I called anyone a 'twat'.

ThePricklySheep · 16/07/2018 10:43

Those that do leave it running, or the PP who said it would knacker their tap, are you using the water as you brush your teeth? I feel like there’s a detail being missed in the method here. Smile

Singlenotsingle · 16/07/2018 10:44

Yes of course I do. It doesn't take long ffs

speakout · 16/07/2018 10:46

I run the tap.

I like to brush my teeth with warm water.

But I have been using the hosepipe to water my garden for the past 3 weeks.

TheLesserOfTwoWeevils · 16/07/2018 10:52

I turn the tap off. DH leaves it running. It drives me crazy and I'm always telling him to turn it off

TerfsUp · 16/07/2018 13:12

And I think the world will face a water shortage in the future the way we are going

That is absolutely true and a concern that people working in the field of water management have known for some time. There is some speculation that the next war in the Middle East will be about water, though the pretext will be different.

PerfectlySymmetricalButtocks · 16/07/2018 13:16

No, I was brought up not to. I do when I'm washing my hands though, because I don't like getting soap on the taps (probably my weirdness).

Mousefunky · 16/07/2018 13:20

Massive waste so no, I don’t.

adaline · 16/07/2018 13:24

No I don't. It's habit to turn it off for me as it's how I was raised.

Bluebell878275 · 16/07/2018 13:25

No way! You aren't really supposed to use water in the teeth cleaning process anyway - just for rinsing the tooth brush after.

I floss, then rub the 'dry' toothpaste onto my teeth, use an electric toothbrush for 10 mins and then rinse with mouth-wash.

thecatsthecats · 16/07/2018 13:29

I've never understood what running it is supposed to achieve.

It's the practical equivalent of turning on the microwave whilst you're making scrambled eggs.

speakout · 16/07/2018 13:41

But not everywhere is short of water.

We have more water than we need in my area.

runningkeenster · 16/07/2018 16:50

I used to do it until I was in my early 20s and then got told off by a fellow student and haven't done it since!

9amTrain · 16/07/2018 17:03

No, I don't. I stopped doing it when I left childhood. It's such a waste and takes a split second to turn it off and on.

footballmum · 16/07/2018 17:27

I do but I’m trying to stop! It’s such a habit though I think I’m remembering about every third time Blush Will make a more concerted effort though as I recognise it is important.

pasanda · 16/07/2018 17:33

Bluebell - you brush your teeth for 10 minutes!!??

Shock
lljkk · 16/07/2018 19:32

Using water isn't just using water... creating clean water requires chemicals and electricity being used, too. Plus pipes need to be made & maintained, and the pumps that transport the water and testing regimes to make sure bacterial load is low enough, etc. All of that happens even if you live somewhere like Iceland (lots of renewable energy, lots of naturally clean water). Making potable water for mass consumption generates pollution, can't be avoided.

PookieDo · 16/07/2018 19:38

My water here in south east is disgusting. It’s totally full of sediment/cloudy and doesn’t taste nice. If you did run a glass of water you wouldn’t want to drink it

ChristmasTablecloth · 16/07/2018 19:39

It's such an easy thing NOT to do. I baffles me that anyone wouldn't. I got out of the habit in the summer of 1976 when people in the UK didn't even have access to water every day (had to go to standpipes in the street for it) and we were all being urged to share 3" baths. Showers were still a bit of a novelty.
