Weather making me ill

... to think this long heatwave is making me feel poorly? I'm fair skinned and never been one for hot weather. Does anyone else feel sick, tired, low on energy and just pretty shit in general? Roll on Autumn!

@mrspreston11.. Your theory is wrong here! I'm a size 8-10 with a BMI of 21 and I can't cope in the heat! Like PP, it makes me feel exhausted, nauseous, dizzy and headachy.. I hate being all sweaty and as someone upthread has said, it's pointless because you can't do anything in it.. This is compounded by having a two-year-old and four-month-old who I'm not going to make miserable by taking them outside for too long... At least in the snow I can wrap them up!

Silversun83 · 15/07/2018 10:25

And for anyone who says that this is just summer, it's not been like this since 1976 (when that was seen as a freak occurance!). The British average summer temp is I believe under 20. This is blatently the effects of global warming!

tapdancingmum · 15/07/2018 10:41

I have found my hayfever to be so much worse this year and going on for months! We have finally succumbed and have bought an air conditioner for the bedroom and for the first time in weeks we have both slept. My DH was sleeping in the conservatory just to get some air and not feel crap. My mum, unfortunately, has got the flu and is on bed rest whilst feeling utterly exhausted.

We break up next Friday and the schools break up the following Tuesday so it will probably change then. But, I am enjoying the sunshine and have been making the most of it in the afternoons whilst the house slowly subsides under the weight of dust 😁

We had such a hard cold winter it's nice to have some warmth.

Maelstrop · 15/07/2018 10:41

If you are shivery, cold or headachey it's possibly mild sunstroke.

Had this yesterday, but hadn’t been in the sun, I burn immediately!

Please tell me you have seen the doc and they have given you something?!

I was given IV antibiotics in A&E and a follow up course because the red bit was very infected. Given I think it’s dyshidrosis (nasty form of eczema) there’s little to be done bar use hydrocortisone cream to stop the eternal itching.

Hand today is awful.

Yes, hate it and feel miserable. Don't see the attraction in being sweaty, clothes sticking to you, not being able to sleep properly, not wanting to be outside, scuttling from car to shop while trying to keep in the shade, bugs everywhere. There have been a few threads on this and it seems that we who hate hot weather shouldn't be allowed to 'moan' about it, but those who hate winter can moan all they like about that ....

AirForce0ne · 15/07/2018 11:09

no one says you can't moan. Some of us don't like to be stuck indoors for months on end and the lovely weather is a god send. Sunny days usually are so rare that the ones who hate them don't have any reasons to complain. It's nice to have our turn to actually enjoy this country, and we all know it wont' last, we are going back to cold and wet very soon.

I can close the curtains to keep the heat away from the house, but I have to spend a fortune in heating to keep the cold and damp away. There are good reasons to enjoy it!

Calledyoulastnightfromglasgow · 15/07/2018 11:12

I love it. I feel happier and healthier. I swear I shouldn’t live in scotland

I feel so fed up in January so think of me then!

AirForce0ne · 15/07/2018 11:31

I will probably be in bed with chest infections in January, my immune system seems to need sunshine to wake up, so I for one am enjoying a few weeks of feeling good.

All the flowers and vegetables planted by my kids are growing so well,
I love changing our routine and putting the kids to bed later too!

I do understand some people feel miserable, but for some of us it's a relief.

hattiebugatti · 15/07/2018 11:51

@AirForceOne you do make some very good points. Taking into account the long heatwave, along with the FANTASTIC World Cup this past month, and also Love Island it has been such a great summer.

And it's still only mid July!

I get that it's not for everyone, but it has been so refreshing after the 6 month winter. As I said though, we need some rain soon, as it's affecting nature now.

SalveGrumio · 15/07/2018 11:57

I don't stay inside all winter, we go out rain or shine. I don't see why you would cancel a day out because of some rain. I'm indoors now because its too hot. Even with sun cream and shade I can feel my skin burning and sweating out there.

In fact I can dress to make the most of cold/rain etc. I can't do that for heat. Even wearing very scant clothes or long drapy clothes I sweat loads. It's horrid. My abdomen sweats and seeps into my clothes, so I look disgusting.

I can't run in this heat, even at 6am it's too hot. I LOVE running in the rain.

We do much more activity when it's cooler.

endofthelinefinally · 15/07/2018 12:01

I have a condition that gets much worse in hot weather. I am on medication that means I have to avoid the sun.
It is getting a bit tedious now.
I do appreciate that lots of people are enjoying it though.

endofthelinefinally · 15/07/2018 12:03

The summer of 76 was wonderful. But I was young and healthy then.

FranticallyPeaceful · 15/07/2018 12:06

Me too. I haven’t complained in real life because the kids enjoy it and every other bugger seems to enjoy it... but I really don’t. It makes me feel awful and lethargic. I hate sweating, and I’m constantly sweating in this heat. I hate feeling like I can’t breathe at night even with the fans on and window opened.
It just feels relentless! Also trying to cool down a new baby in this heat is a TASK

Urubu · 15/07/2018 12:28

I'm in Turkey, 40 degrees during the day make the 30 degrees evenings feel just perfect.

AirForce0ne · 15/07/2018 12:37

I don't see why you would cancel a day out because of some rain.

I can't see why you would cancel a day out because of the sun!
I don't like the rain, I don't like being cold, it makes my body ache. My kids catch all sorts of bugs, everybody is sick and miserable, it's slippery and muddy, there's nothing to do for us when it's drizzling and grey.

We are lucky enough we have a lot of indoor choices in London easily accessible, but that's not the point.

I just have so much energy on summer days! I am not trying to convince people they should enjoy the heat, just pointing out that some of us are really miserable and depressed when it's cold, grey and you don't see the sun for months on end. It's not healthy for the kids either (but neither is getting sunburn, I am still being careful!)

ChristmasTablecloth · 15/07/2018 13:17

Can we stop with the gross photographs please ?

CeridwensCottage · 15/07/2018 18:57

Vitamin D from walking around? My vitamin D comes from a bottle and I remain inside ta Grin

We went to the beach at 20:30 last night and blew raspberries at the Sun as it sank below the horizon. Searing yellow fireball that it is Angry

biscuiteater · 16/07/2018 08:59

I suffer with a painful medical condition that is triggered by cold weather so this heat is a god send. I can actually feel normal and not worry about getting cold.

The80sweregreat · 16/07/2018 09:14

We've had a heatwave in the Uk for weeks and weeks ( im in the south) and i hate it. been feeling hot and sweaty and lightheaded and i can't sleep.
