Weather making me ill

GreenEyedBlonde · 14/07/2018 20:30

... to think this long heatwave is making me feel poorly? I'm fair skinned and never been one for hot weather. Does anyone else feel sick, tired, low on energy and just pretty shit in general? Roll on Autumn!

OP posts:
YoYotheclown · 15/07/2018 00:35

Yes. It makes me incredibly ill. I booked the fam a holiday in Scotland this year. Hope it’s not hot Grin kids hate me right now 🤷🏻‍♀️

DSHathawayGivesMeFannyGallops · 15/07/2018 00:37

In the past 3 weeks I've had a sinus headache & subsequent inner ear infection with 10 days of BPPV vertigo, then a very clotty period, a mild stomach bug for 4 or 5 days and another vicious sinus headache. I've had may be 2-3 good days between all of these and I'm fed up. I love summer, but this weather seems to have laid me low, & crippling heat makes it worse- especially when I have a temperature.

YANBU, OP. Flowers for you and @Brigante9- your poor foot!

Monty27 · 15/07/2018 00:43

Sunshine gives you vitamin d. It's essential. If you hide from the sun you will feel rubbish. Just be careful not to burn. Walk about and enjoy it. By the beach if you are lucky enough.
Sunbathing bored me to tears. But walking around in sunshine is uplifting
Smile

Hiphopopotamus · 15/07/2018 00:47

@Monty27 - Uplifting for you! Don’t be so arrogant and self centred that you truly believe that everyone reacts to weather in the same way as you!

Monty27 · 15/07/2018 00:54

I'm so sorry Hiphopopotamus.
I am seriously not an arrogant person and didn't realise that you had a reaction. I was insensitive Flowers

Molly499 · 15/07/2018 00:58

I agree with the OP, it's exactly how it makes me feel but most people don't understand. For anyone with any fever, sinus problems made worse in the heat, try an aromatherapy diffuser./ humidifier. I put olbas oil in mine and run it for three hours every night, it's a life saver.

Seeingadistance · 15/07/2018 01:07

As a Scot and unaccustomed to the sunshine I’ve spent the past few weeks alternating between “Ah! Sunshine! Must go outside” and “Phew! Too hot! Must go back inside.”

Currently on holiday in Iceland where they’re having their worst summer for 100 years. Must say it’s lovely and refreshing!

But I do hope there’s still a wee bit sunshine left when we get back!

Ski40 · 15/07/2018 01:14

I'm exhausted and miserable from the long, sweaty, sleepless nights and the relentless headaches I get in the sun. I only go out for the school run. My sinus and asthma are much worse in the heat and the kids are up full throttle all hours because it's too light outside. And the flies, one of my worst phobias. 🤢
I wish I could go to sleep and wake up by Halloween. The summer makes me miserable 😖

SheldonandPenny · 15/07/2018 07:47

There's huge variation in heat tolerance in my family. I am fair skinned, my DH tans easily but has light eyes. I have spent weeks feeling unwell, fatigue, oedema, headaches occasional nausea and have struggled to get basic tasks done. On the hottest day DH was outside power sanding and absolutely dripping but completely fine. The children vary in colouring and the fairest is feeling most like me but not to the same extent. My DM also feels like me, without the swelling. I am happy in typical British weather and never moan about it. I know it's weather I'm built for and healthiest in. I an dreading today. DH said it's going to be 28-30.

abbsisspartacus · 15/07/2018 07:52

I have graves disease and I can't tolerate the heat unfortunately I work in a metal building with loads of pc equipment pumping out heat it's fucking hot when the sun hits bloody awful

hattiebugatti · 15/07/2018 08:06

Jeeeez @Brigante that foot blister thingy! Shock

Please tell me you have seen the doc and they have given you something?!

I am currently permanently in flip-flops, have a job where I can work largely from home, and am living in my shorts and black vest top. So I am luckier than some.

I LOVE the hot weather and a long, hot summer is a dream for many.

But although the hot and sunny days are OK (for me,) I cannot stand the days when it's very humid, and oppressive... (And we have had a few of them including yesterday!) 32 C and just hot, is much better than 27 C and humid IMO.

Thing is, as lovely as the nice summer is, the animals, and plant life are struggling now, everyone's lawn is as dead as Westlife, asthmatics are struggling, the farmers are dipping into winter feed for the animals as the grass ain't growing, people are feeling sick and nauseous with the humidity, people have had water shortages, (and in some places it has gone off for a few days,) no-one can sleep properly, and TBH, when it's this bad it may as well just be cool and drizzly, because you can't do anything.

As much as it has been good (for me) I am now praying for cooler weather and some rain (soon!)

madcatladyforever · 15/07/2018 08:08

It's fine at home as I have a big garden and trees but work is just awful, sweltering. I feel so sorry for my long haired cat. he just seems to spend his days in the hallway with his paws in the air.

MrsPreston11 · 15/07/2018 08:16

No assumptions being made here about anyone and of course there are going to be people of all sizes who can and can’t cope with this heat. But this is my 2c.

It’s only since being a healthy weight that I can enjoy hot weather. I’ve lost a lot of weight the past year. (Size 18/20 to size 10/12)

I used to find it so miserable and couldn’t cope at all. And I’m now happy to wear shorts and strappy tops etc so even cooler than when I had to layer to cover myself and therefore make the overheating even worse.

The flip side is of course I am colder in winter but that’s easy to remedy with clothing.

So I know it’s no help for this heatwave but anyone on the larger side you don’t have to feel this awful every summer.

AirForce0ne · 15/07/2018 08:44

Spare a thought for people like me who are miserable in autumn or winter.

I absolutely love the current weather, I have tons of energy, have managed to get up early to go for a run every weekday before starting my normal day. I feel so much happier. I think it's lovely to finally have some light and warmth instead of feeling miserable, depressed and cold. All the windows are opened, no damp and mould in the house, no need to spend a fortune on heating.

The kids are spending so much time outside, before and after school, they sleep so much better too. It's better to be indoors or in the shade in the middle of the day anyway. With constantly nice weather we can actually plan days out without to cancel at the last minute because it's pouring with rain. We eat so much better too, no need for comfort food and sugar, you don't need to over-eat to compensate when you feel happy.

I wish it could be like this every summer! I understand some people prefer the winter, but for the rest of us the winter months are so miserable, expensive and depressing, a few weeks of summer are bliss. I agree, rain will come next week to stay, as soon as the kids are off school unfortunately.

CambridgeAnaglypta · 15/07/2018 08:54

It's glorious weather but I can't sit out in it. DH was on the sun lounger yesterday afternoon. I was in our north facing living room Smile

GreenEyedBlonde · 15/07/2018 09:01

Well I absolutely adore the Autumn it's so pretty 🍁🍂🍂🍁 reds and yellows and oranges and browns. My hair isn't fluffy, my skin isn't sweaty, I've no hayfever. Early morning walks with crunchy leaves on the ground, fireworks, bonfires, hot chocolate, cozy winter coats, jeans, dark nights, country pubs having hot meals. I love October Smile

OP posts:
Ansumpasty · 15/07/2018 09:04

Maybe you have allergies?

AirForce0ne · 15/07/2018 09:18

Photos of autumn do look lovely. Unfortunately in RL where I live it's just grey sky, drizzle, and you don't see the sun for weeks or even months. Everything is cold, damp and miserable.

BexleyRae · 15/07/2018 09:36

I felt sick and headachy yesterday, I'm sure it was a bit of sunstroke. I'm making sure I drink extra water today.
I don't cope well in the heat, my hands swell up like OP, I can't wait for autumn. Im designed for British weather, not this freakish foreign stuff!

desertmum · 15/07/2018 09:37

AirForceOne I'm with you. I HATE winter with a passion. Loving this weather despite the extra cost to us feeding our livestock, the extra water bills for watering etc. Winter makes me miserable and far less productive than when it is sunny.

We have the windows open all round the house to catch what little breeze there is and sleep like logs.

I love being outdoors all day, in shorts and t-shirts, enjoying the sun and long days.

I get that not everyone loves it, but soon when you are all happy that's it's cool and grey and grim again some of us will be miserable.

Horses for courses really.

And the next person who says to me 'I like it hot, but not this hot' will get stabbed. (Not really, that's a joke obviously).

AirForce0ne · 15/07/2018 09:43

And the next person who says to me 'I like it hot, but not this hot' will get stabbed. (Not really, that's a joke obviously).

I am jokingly with you here Grin

The day the temperature reaches 136F (57.8C) I would be the very first one to complain that it is too hot for this country! A balmy 28-30C on the other hand is just summer Smile

boatyardblues · 15/07/2018 09:46

Currently on holiday in Iceland where they’re having their worst summer for 100 years. Must say it’s lovely and refreshing!

We visited Iceland when the UK was in the middle of a heatwave. I can’t describe the relief of stepping off the plane at Keflavik into a bracing onshore breeze and 12c. DH brightened immediately (he hates hot weather) and kids both said how much the rain reminded them of home. Grin

lljkk · 15/07/2018 09:46

UK Winter is hard on me, although I imagine I get off very lightly compared to ppl with respiratory weakness or Vit.D problems. I'm from a much sunnier warmer place than UK has been this year, place full of light skinned people, too. We don't moan unless it stays over 32 for days on end. I suppose we moan about the 2-3months solid of dull grey no sun which happens in May-June most years.

We're off to beach today! :)

HunterofStars · 15/07/2018 10:02

I'm with you, Op. My hayfever has been terrible this year and I feel headachy all the time. I also have been feeling nauseous all the time and have water retention. I have also felt dizzy and faint at times.

Brigante, that looks very painful and nasty. Hope you feel better soon.

MissMildred · 15/07/2018 10:13

Completely. I've been gradually becoming really irritable and not wanting to be around people because I'm fed up with being so hot. It's not just the heat, it's the oxygen-less humidity and the pollen.
I'm glad you posted this - I thought I was the only person unable to cope with it. Had really bad headaches too, despite drinking plenty of water. The humidity has eased here and I'm not feeling quite so bad as before.
