deffonamechanging · 14/07/2018 16:20

This is not aibu but I would appreciate jock answers and this is the one section to guarantee that.

Today I found a lost tampon.

Never happened to me before.
I've been using tampons twenty plus years.

It was in for ten days.

No smell. No itching nothing.

Today got up and my pyjamas felt slightly damp and again a few hours later. The dampness Smelt funny.

Googled it. Had a feel and there was a tampon. It had gone up, went sideways and there was no string. It's no out.

I feel fine.

I've obviously showered etc and had a good clean. Do or should I need to do anything else?

Sorry, missed your post that it’s out. In this case I would tell someone that it happened just in case if you are feeling unwell.
To be honest I can imagine this I once put second one without removing the first one in a hurry and then was wondering why I’ve got so many strings out of me !

deffonamechanging · 14/07/2018 16:36

I told my DH. He keeps calling me a variety of jokes about vaginas the funny fucker!

I’ve done this. Unless you feel unwell, you don’t need medical advice or attention. It happens, don’t worry.

RedSkyLastNight · 14/07/2018 16:44

happened to me. I found it about 2 weeks after the end of my period(it had sort of worked its way out). I removed it, had a wash and moved on with my life.

Gemini69 · 14/07/2018 16:46

my friend accidentally put a tampon in having forgotten to remove the previous one.. she had to have the farthest in one removed at a&e .. she was very embarrassed and very lucky to have not had a reaction...

you too are lucky Lady... Flowers

Peartree17 · 14/07/2018 16:47

I did this once. Put a tampon in at the end of my period, forgetting to remove the previous one. Removed the last one, leaving one in. Felt fine, except for a smelly vag several days later. Went to the doctor to get checked out and she gave me an internal - missing the tampon! She did put me on antibiotics, in case the smell was due to an infection and made another appointment for follow-up. 24 hours later the tampon came out as I went for a pee. It was pretty gross by that point. And the doctor was well embarrassed when I told her at my follow-up appointment. But I suffered no ill-effects, so I don't imagine you will either OP.

deffonamechanging · 14/07/2018 16:48

I know I am very lucky. After reading this thread I am lucky I didn't have to get it removed.

It's put me off using tampons to be honest.

I’m glad you got it out and are feeling fine. Honestly I could never imagine doing this tbh. The buggers are so uncomfortable. We are all very different.

wellBeehivedWoman · 14/07/2018 16:56

I think if you were going to get ill you would have by now!

deffonamechanging · 14/07/2018 16:57

I use the mini lillets. Hey are so small you can't feel them once they are in. Well I can't.

It had somehow got sideways and gone up even more.

So when I did the feel to take the last one out at the end of my period (I know to the hour when I am on and off I've always Been the same).

Because I couldn't feel the string I thought I must of already took it out. Had a feel and like I said I couldn't feel anything.

What has worried me though is the ten day period. No smell or
Symptoms till today!

I left one in for 4-5 days Blush

It was pretty grim when i removed but I felt fine

BoreOfWhabylon · 14/07/2018 17:02

Thing is, when I rang NHS direct it was staffed by actual nurses. Nowadays they'd probably tell you to go to A&E. Just for that, I'd not ring unless you feel unwell.

Not true. If the tampon is still in situ the call will be transferred to a clinician to talk you through removing it. You'd only be advised to attend A&E/walk in centre if unable to retrieve or if there were other symptoms present.

Zadocthepriest · 14/07/2018 17:03

A friend did this, found by her GP, consulted because of the smell and discharge (no lasting damage)

ThePlanetGoesOnBeingRound3 · 14/07/2018 17:03

Happened to my friend, she was in her early 50s, beginning the menopause and nothing happening with her husband IYKWIM. 10 weeks it had been in.
She went for a smear and it was discovered.
The smell was horrendous, she said, happily I wasn't there to witness, but no other issues.
TSS is very serious but I think you would know about it if you had it.
Wouldn't hurt, and my practise nurses would not mind at all, if you popped in to see them for reassurance.
They are very proactive about women's health and don't take the view that lots on MN do that you're wasting their time. Wink

Thebluedog · 14/07/2018 17:05

My friend did this, she rang the docs but they said unless she was feeling unwell then she didn’t need to see a doctor

Frazzled2207 · 14/07/2018 17:06

This happened to me. I think was in for between 1 and 2 weeks.
I felt fine and nothing else happened.

If you are otherwise ok try not to worry.

TeaAndNoSympathy · 14/07/2018 17:06

I wouldn’t ring 111. You feel fine. If you had TSS (the main risk with tampons left in too long) you would have flu like symptoms initially and feel progressively more unwell. If you do develop symptoms like that then obviously get seen ASAP but there’s no point otherwise.

TheDishRanAwayWithTheSpoon · 14/07/2018 17:11

Don't worry OP, I think this is very common!

I once left one in for about 48hrs accidentally, I put it in upside down I think and didn't realise I still had one in because there was no string, till I went to the toilet and gave birth to it haha Blush

You dont need medical attention just keep an eye out for unusual smells/discharge and if you start feeling unwell.

deffonamechanging · 14/07/2018 17:12

Tbh I've gone out today. Rare date day without any of the kids.

I'm a few gin cocktails in. I'm no longer as mortified and no longer worried.

Thank you again ladies Grin

You will be fine. If you start to feel unwell, call the doctors but no need to call 111 if you feel fine. Very few people get TSS.

The healing power of Gin.
It's a miracle. Grin

Those tiny Lillets ones are so small. No way I’d use one now. They are too tiny.

Oblomov18 · 14/07/2018 17:39

I too left one in for days as a teenager. Just forgot all about it. BlushI was fine!
