DS1 is 5'9 and wears men's size small and has size 11 shoe.

On the upside he's really good at basketball.

On the downside he eats like a horse and costs a small fortune to clothe for e.g. whereas DS2 can wear the same school shoe for a school year, DS1 has needed several pairs every year so far and the choice the bigger he gets is narrowing.

So please tell me MN hive where do I shop for sturdy school type shoes in a size 11, and where should I look for black school trousers once he grow out of the age 15-16 supermarket ones?

And as an aside do I sew labels into secondary school clothes? Surely not unless he wants the piss taken?

Disclaimer: obviously I don't blame DS1 for being tall that's exH's fault!

At 5’9’ he can wear men’s trews surely? My daughter is also very tall and moved to adult women’s clothes aged 10. I hear you re the shoes. Mines an 8 at 11 and I’m hoping that they sing grow any more now!

reup · 13/07/2018 22:04

My son has gone into next men’s plain black trousers. I sew name labels into my sibs school clothes still - he’s 15! No mention of taking the piss.

He still got Clarke’s at size 10 but not sure about 11s - maybe hush puppies ?

inkydinky · 13/07/2018 22:05

I’m using sticky labels btw. Life far to short for sewing.

endofthelinefinally · 13/07/2018 22:10

Marks and Spencer are actually good for plain shoes and shirts and trousers.

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 13/07/2018 22:10

DS1 is 14 and a bit taller than your DS. We got men’s trousers from TU at Sainsbury’s for school. They were about £15 I think.

jocktamsonsbairn · 13/07/2018 22:13

My son is the same! Now 6'3" and and also very good at basketball!! Debenhams sometimes do decent big shoes and Next super skinny trousers are good for school. He had to order Jack Jones super skinny jeans online to get the waist/leg length ratio right as most longer length Julian's are too wide in the waist.
He also eats non stop and costs me a fortune on food and clothing!!

kaytee87 · 13/07/2018 22:15

How old is he? I'd just buy him men's trousers, shirts and shoes.

TheEmojiFormerlyKnownAsPrince · 13/07/2018 22:16

When my Ds was 14 he was 6ft tall and a 28" waist. I used to buy his from Asda mens.

Notso · 13/07/2018 22:17

My 13 year old is 6'2 and also size 11 feet, he wears men's trousers from Primark and shoes from Sports Direct, but as he is skinny he wears age 16-17 shorts sleeved shirts from Asda.

DianaPrincessOfThemyscira · 13/07/2018 22:17

The issue is the cost with men’s clothing, surely? Plus the fact that an 11 year old is unlikely to be the same shape as a young man.

I don’t know if they do school clothes, but H&M have a good teen sized range, I think they go up to age 15+ and they fit my two skinny DSS well. Shoes I think you’re going to have to buy adults, sorry!

Mamabear14 · 13/07/2018 22:20

I find burtons slim fit black trousers the best for my lanky 13yr old. He's 5'9 and a size 9. They don't seem to give him a weird shape like the rest and sometimes you get 2 for £35 or something like that.

Dhalandchips · 13/07/2018 22:21

Dr martens shoes go up to a 15 I think...

FarrahMoan · 13/07/2018 22:21

I'll take a look at Next reup thanks. I think I just have to accept that they're going to cost twice the price Shock

I haven't looked at Hush Puppies, I've looked at DM's but they're pricey if they're not going to last a year

M&S and Sainsbury's are a good shout too thanks endofthelinefinally and chazsbrilliantattitude

Just write initials on labels in permanent marker for secondary, time saving and they don’t tend to get mixed up as frequently as at primary (though do get forgotten/ left in locker etc!!).
Is he taller than you? He would tower above me, and that’s doesn’t often happen with the year 7s, but by year 9 many them will have caught up with your DS I would think.

Dragonwoman03 · 13/07/2018 22:24

I have a girl who was in size 11's at the age of 12, poor soul has been wearing men's shoes to school since then. If you think it's hard to find things for boys, spare a thought for girls in large sizes! She wants a pair of knee high boots; I haven't the heart to tell her that the only ones I can find in her size are in a shop for transvestites and have 5 inch heels!

anotherangel2 · 13/07/2018 22:25

Sainsbury should be having a 25% off sale soon. It is normally the first week of school holidays

rubyredbeau · 13/07/2018 22:27

My son has just turned 15 and he is 6ft 5 with size 14 feet! Getting clothes to fit and shoes are a total nightmare.

FarrahMoan · 13/07/2018 22:28

Notso 6'2 Shock Do the Primark trousers last?

DS has a habit of bursting the crutch of his Sainsbury's trousers - though tbf DS2 recently did it to his, which were from John Lewis, too

SheWoreBlueVelvet · 13/07/2018 22:28

ASDA shoes. Mine has worn every size up to 11. Leather, lace up, plain, no twiddly bits.
Trousers I feel your pain, 30 W 34 leg. Bloody hard.
I keep saying I should start a teen boys shop for the long and lanky. Men's clothes just look a bit wrong and are wider at the waist. He has a bit of Boden he's outgrown and a some charity shop stuff in the almost right size. Luckily he's not really into clothes yet ...

LizB62A · 13/07/2018 22:29

My son has always been tall - he was in M&S men's trousers at age 14, something like this: www.marksandspencer.com/single-pleat-trousers/p/p22467854?image=SD_03_T18_3211M_Y0_X_EC_90&color=BLACK&prevPage=plp&pdpredirect
They wore really well so lasted until he grew out of them (which wasn't long as he's 6ft 2 now)
Shoes were men's shoes bought from Clarks in the sale!

FarrahMoan · 13/07/2018 22:30

rubyredbeau where do you buy his shoes? I bet it's impossible to buy them cheaply

OP posts:
Katescurios · 13/07/2018 22:30

@dragonwoman03 have you tried Evans for larger show sizes for women?

DianaPrincessOfThemyscira · 13/07/2018 22:33

Katescurios unless she’s really massive that’s unlikely to help tbh. I’m fat with small feet (size 5) and even the size 4 are too wide and just flap around! Boots in particular are massive round the calves.

StillMedusa · 13/07/2018 22:34

Clark's do good plain black men's shoes.. my ds1 needs a size 12 wide fit as he wears leg splints. They have lasted two years! Next slim fit trousers are good for the long and lanky :)

Bluetrews25 · 13/07/2018 22:34

Men's supermarket shoes should be ok - they don't need cripplingly expensive Clarks at that size! Matalan mens trews are very reasonable - doesn't have to break the bank.
On the bright side, as I had 2 like this, they will get all their growing done in one spurt and it will stop at some point probably fairly soon - he's unlikely to continue at this rate for much longer.
