DS1 is 5'9 and wears men's size small and has size 11 shoe.

On the upside he's really good at basketball.

On the downside he eats like a horse and costs a small fortune to clothe for e.g. whereas DS2 can wear the same school shoe for a school year, DS1 has needed several pairs every year so far and the choice the bigger he gets is narrowing.

So please tell me MN hive where do I shop for sturdy school type shoes in a size 11, and where should I look for black school trousers once he grow out of the age 15-16 supermarket ones?

And as an aside do I sew labels into secondary school clothes? Surely not unless he wants the piss taken?

Disclaimer: obviously I don't blame DS1 for being tall that's exH's fault!

My 11 year old is still in aged 9-10 Blush

The menfolk of both sides of our family are oak trees who appear to only start growing aged 16.

FarrahMoan · 13/07/2018 22:35

Dragonwoman03 Oh my goodness! Poor kid. I used to find it tricky to find size 8's but they seem more common now - I can't imagine that happening with 11's sadly

Just buy Men's stuff in Tesco / Asda

buildabear · 13/07/2018 22:40

Burtons for skinny school trousers, they last and wash well plus come in different lengths

FarrahMoan · 13/07/2018 22:40

Thank you all so much for the ideas Smile

if they do end up tall, we have recently found 2tall.com. They specialise in tshirts, jeans, hoodies that are normal tight fit just longer, rather than large fit clothes. they recently had large size converse as well.

Wandastartup · 13/07/2018 22:40

Duo boots seem to have some styles in an 11

Bunbunbunny · 13/07/2018 22:42

If you want cheaper trainers we found good ones in Adidas outlets, my DH is size 13/14 and we get good pairs for £30. Timberland outlets are also really for bargains

JugglingMummyof2 · 13/07/2018 22:44

11 year old who has size 11 feet is very unusual and I have a fair few friends who have giant 13/14 year olds who are 6 foot+ and 'only' 10's at that stage.
Are you also very tall?

3dogsandcounting · 13/07/2018 22:45

Dragonwomen- I’m pretty sure long tall Sally has shoes up to a size 13?

Freshprincess · 13/07/2018 22:46

M&S men’s trousers for my 6’4 giant boy. You may be able to still get the boys range in extra tall as he’s not yet 6ft. They still have the elasticated waist if he’s a beanpole. M&S also do extra long school shirts, the ones I bought in year 7 still fit him In year 9.

Ds feet are ‘only’ a size 10. He wears Kickers which appear to be the ones loads of boys wear.

DrWhy · 13/07/2018 22:47

Dragonwoman03 Long Tall Sally shoes go up to a size 13, I can’t see any boots there at the moment but I suspect it’s because of the season I’d expect them to have them in for autumn/winter.

Gibble1 · 13/07/2018 22:48

My 14 year old is 5’10 with size 10 feet. I am utterly dreading the school shop this year. He also has very narrow feet. We ended up with Clark’s from an independent shop so they were slightly cheaper. He still needed insoles as even the narrowest ones were too wide 😩

mamaduckbone · 13/07/2018 22:48

I feel your pain. Ds1 is 5’10” with size 10 feet at 12.
His feet have slowed down and we’ve managed with one pair of Clarks this school year. Sainsbury’s do long/slim/every combination trousers and we’ve also bought Primark small man’s for him although most men’s sizes are way too big around the waist even if the leg length is ok.
His constant refrain is ‘What can I eat?’ and he never seems to not be hungry. He’s got stretch marks on his hips and knees because he’s growing too fast and is having Physiotherapy for his Achilles and hamstrings as his muscles are so tight as they can’t keep up, basically.
On the upside, he’s also good at basketball and quite popular with the girls Grin

Cantspell2 · 13/07/2018 22:58

My youngest son was like this but now aged 20 he has topped out st 6’ 2 size 12 feet and is a bean pole with a 30 inch waiste.
For school I used to buy him slim fit black trousers from top man and fitted shirts from Asda. Shoes came from sports direct.

He now buys his own but still a lot from top man with some added online from ASOS.

If your son is tall and thin look for fitted items or slim fit as otherwise the clothing has too much spare material around the body and bum and they look like they are wearing a sack.

Terramirabilis · 13/07/2018 23:03

@Dragonwoman if you or anyone you know might be visiting the US you will find a much better selection of larger women's sizes here. I am "only" a size eight and I find it much easier here than when I lived in the UK. They are better about half sizes too. You might also look at ordering online. Nordstrom has good customer service.

Marmelised · 13/07/2018 23:06

Dragonwoman03 look at Magnus Shoes. Online plus shop in Chiltern St London.

AlpacaLypse · 13/07/2018 23:10

@Dragonwoman03 obviously I've no idea where your daughter has settled down size wise but Deichmann in most High Streets has been a life saver for my size ten dd since she grew past New Look's size 9 stop point.

Notso · 13/07/2018 23:13

FarrahMoan they are fine. Previously I bought trousers from Next or M&S, I bought the Primark ones as a stop gap initially but DS was happy with them so I bought more and put the savings towards his gigantic expensive trainers!

Pythonesque · 13/07/2018 23:14

Last summer I discovered cadet parade shoes (eldest was doing CCF and needed regulation boots). www.cadetdirect.com/bulling-polish-cadet-socks/cadet-boots-shoes/shoes
They seem to come up a little larger than "cheap" shoes - of which my just turned 13 yr-old went through 2 pairs this year, before the size 11 lace-ups fitted him perfectly for the end of the year. They look to be sturdy and practical and I think are going to last well and look good. Very good value and go up to size 14.

FarrahMoan · 13/07/2018 23:17

jugglingmummyof2 I'm 5'10 and his DF is 6'5. There was a time when he, DH and I could share shoes but he's outgrown us

He plays county level basketball, he's there for the rebounds and as you can imagine the rest of the boys have very little chance of reaching the ball Grin

Jacamo? They do stuff for tall men. Longer shirts etc . Good prices too.
I found it useful to take a sharpie permanent marker in black and put initials or full name on everything. Usually on the washing label or inside the shoe or trainer.
Secondary school is just as bad as primary for lost stuff.

Mehmehmeh19 · 14/07/2018 07:07

Clark's black men's shoes hefty ish sole? Maybe an. Outlet shop near?

my dp buys these and he's on his feet in them most of the day. They seem to last well.

underneaththeash · 14/07/2018 07:38

He's the same size as my 11 yo. He has small men's next trousers (washable ones) and clarks men's black shoes. His feet do seem to have slowed down a lot, he's been in the same size for about 8 months now.

Dragonwoman03 · 14/07/2018 08:19

Katescurios thank you, yes we have, but we only found ballet pumps (not supportive enough) and as Diana mentioned, an extremely wide fit so they didn't stay on her feet anyway!
