Not really an AIBU at all but its a burning question.
So pretty much all year 6 kids go to the Isle of Wight as their residential trip but where do the kids from the Isle of Wight go for theirs? Its eating me up inside not knowing!

We go to Isle of Man from our school (Manchester). How southerncentric are you???

Springersrock · 13/07/2018 19:25

Mine went to France in year 6

Halfblindbunny · 13/07/2018 19:26

Rapunzel15 dis you forget that not all year 6 kids live in the south and go to the IoW I can confirm no year 6 kids in my North East town go to the IoW

booellesmum · 13/07/2018 19:29

We are in the Midlands and my DD went to France in year 6.
Still reading to see where the IoW kiss do go though!
Sure someone will be along in a minute...

FlyingDandelionSeed · 13/07/2018 19:32

I grew up in South London and my school went to IoW each year... apart from my year where we didn't go anywhere (complicated financial reasons). Still bitter.

brizzledrizzle · 13/07/2018 19:33

I've never known any go to the IoW, the ones I know have been to Wales for residentials and some of the D of E bronze ones and then the Lakes for gold. Not sure where they go for silver - maybe they swim to the IofW.

Dreamscomingtrue · 13/07/2018 19:36

I went to the IOW from a North East London school, many, many, years ago.

My children from North West London all went to PGL in Shropshire.

I holiday in Bude, CORNWALL, not Devon, quite a lot and see children at an adventure hotel there quite often. A friend in Harlow, Essex, said her son went there, it’s a 300 mile journey though from there, which would probably take a minimum of 6 hours each way.

elephantoverthehill · 13/07/2018 19:49

booellesmum I was along half an hour ago Grin.

Purplejay · 13/07/2018 19:55

What do you mean pretty much all year 6 go to IOW? Are you forgetting there are kids north of London - who probably don’t? I don’t know anyone who has gone to IOW. I live in the Midlands. Ours did PGL in Shropshire (welsh border ish) last week.

NeverKnowWhat · 13/07/2018 20:08

I grew up on the iow. We went to a centre on the iow!

DappledThings · 13/07/2018 20:11

I went to Shropshire and memorably broke my arm on the first evening.

TeenTimesTwo · 13/07/2018 20:17

DD went to IoW. She had a great time. Smile But we are only a stone's throw and one expensive ferry trip away from it.

I would imagine if they want to stay local they go to Osmington Bay, or Fairthorne Manor or Avon Tyrell (sp)

elephantoverthehill · 13/07/2018 20:20

NeverKnowWhat my guess would be that you would have been in a Middle school in year 6, rather than the end of primary or indeed the end of Middle school. So it would not have been a 'big' residential experience IYSWIM.

NeverKnowWhat · 13/07/2018 20:34

All residentials offered when I was at school were on the island...

SubtitlesOn · 13/07/2018 20:36

DC went to North Wales year 5 and IOW in year 6

Shaboohshoobah1 · 13/07/2018 20:51

I lived on the IOW when I was a child and we went to places on the south coast - somewhere in the New Forest and also somewhere in Sussex. Also used to do trips to London - I used to get very excited by the motorway!

PrincessLen · 13/07/2018 20:54

Buckinghamshire school - Y5 go to PGL in Osmington Bay in Dorset, Y6 to France. There are quite a few schools locally that do IOW in Y5 and France in Y6 or just IOW in Y6.

WhoKnowsWhereTheW1neGoes · 13/07/2018 21:00

We can be on the IOW in a couple of hours from home, neither of my DCs has ever been there for a residential, Scout camp or similar.

SoyDora · 13/07/2018 21:02

Our area goes to wales. In fact I’ve lived in 6 different counties and don’t know any who went to the IoW!

MothertotheLordsofmisrule · 13/07/2018 21:07

Maybe there is a secret island us grockles aren’t allowed to know about.

belleandsnowwhite · 13/07/2018 21:09

I went to IOA 25 years ago, my dd went to France.

elephantoverthehill · 13/07/2018 22:27

WhoKnowsWhereTheW1neGoes I know there is a lot of cost involved, getting here but the IoW County Scout Camp at Corf is lovely. May be you could have a Google and suggest it?

Pascha · 13/07/2018 22:31

Ours go somewhere in Buckinghamshire. There was no such thing as a residential in my school in the mid-eighties.

liz70 · 13/07/2018 22:31

PGL Dalguise for P6/7 kids here. I went somewhere in the Lakes for my penultimate primary year, then the Trossachs for the final one. IOW - not a chance.

Rapunzel15 · 13/07/2018 22:33

For everyone who hasnt been i highly recommend it. Weve been here for a week and its absolutely beautiful. Amazing beach and so many activities! Its worth the trip no matter how far, theres actually quite a few people here from scotland
