Going on a date night.... DD6?

Haven't been on a date night since DD (6) was 2 years old! DF offered to babysit and of course we jumped at the chance.

Last night DD started balling her eyes out saying she would miss me so much and doesn't want me to go, wants me to stay here with her and doesn't want to go to granddads. I felt awful and so guilty but at the same time, I really want to go? But worried about her....

She stopped this morning and was all fine about it again but now has burst into tears again saying the same thing. I've offered to FaceTime and even given her my favourite teddy to take but feel so bad however, really want some proper adult time with DH Confused

So I guess I'm asking WWYD and AIBU to go despite the tears? Does that mean I'm a bad mum?! Confused

Please go, have a wonderful night with your oh. You'll be back to the usual grind in no time. I really believe it's so important to get some time away. It refreshes you so much. Enjoy x

For those asking, my DF has never been in a place to be able to babysit due to job commitments and other reasons plus all my other family live in a different country! So that's why it's been so long. We have been out separately with friends obviously and had day trips out together whilst DD is at school and work hasn't got in the way just not a night out just the two of us in a loooong time.

Anyway, we are out! She has cried and played up for DF and 'demanding' we come back but I'm not pandering to her, no way! This is our night and we will enjoy it! (Still feel guilty though obviously!)

Strokethefurrywall hmmm Hmm

I can't believe you've let it be so long! Me and my partner go on a date night every month away from baby since she was 2 months old. Normally my DM comes to our house, and other times LO goes there so we get whole night off.

AdventuresRUs · 13/07/2018 20:46

Lazy did you miss the bit about not having people to babysit!?!? Lucky you getting a date night every month. Rub it in every ones face why dont you.

Lazypuppy · 13/07/2018 21:12

@AdventuresRUs i'm not rubbing it in peoples facea, i think it is really important to focus on your relationship when you have a child as it can lost in the routine of family life.

Doesn't matter if there's no family, we have had friends babysit and hired babysitters when family aren't available.

AdventuresRUs · 13/07/2018 21:21

And if youve moved to a new area/dont have lots of spare money? A lot of people really can't do "date nights" on a regular basis. Great for those that can but really dont expect everyone can (as stated upthread.) (See also - Everyone can afford private school if they just cut back/ why dont you just move/ work harder/get a better job.)

Lazypuppy · 13/07/2018 23:33

It doesn't have to be regular but more often than once every 4 years!

Geordiegirl79 · 13/07/2018 23:55

Hope you had a lovely time OP x

sparklydust · 14/07/2018 00:08

I had a fab time thank you SmileThanks

DD is apparently now asleep and chilled out after a while so she's okay.

Yay glad you had a lovley time :) We ve only been able to have a handful of date nights in 9 years but each one has been treasured!!!!

Cornettoninja · 14/07/2018 09:18

Hope you had an awesome night OP.

Some of the sneering and smugness on this thread has really irritated me though. Can some of you really not fathom a world where you haven’t got willing family on hand or the finances for a babysitter? It’s much harder to introduce a child to the concept of a babysitter when they haven’t had the opportunity to get used to it with trusted people from the get go.

Shove your ‘Shock’s’ back in their boxes. If you’re find people justifying their reasons to you it’s because you’ve made them feel like shit.
