Period and Wedding Day

More of a WWYD?

I'm getting married on August 15th, unfortunately my period is due on the 13th Sad Usually lasts 3 days.
We're going on our honeymoon on the 19th for 10 nights.

Would I be better off taking the pills which stop my period and risk coming on in the last couple of days of the honeymoon OR have my period as usual, be on for the wedding day bit have a guaranteed period free honeymoon?

Urghhh typical timings!

Can you go on the pill and take it without a break so you don't have a period?

I wouldn't have wanted to be on my period on my wedding day. It would have added a whole new level of stress and faff!

TaleasoldasTimee · 13/07/2018 10:48

I was on the mini pill for years and really don't want to go back on it tbh. I know, I can't imagine having to change whilst wearing a big white dress 😰

I took notheristone (so?) last year to avoid having my period on holiday. You take it 3 days before your period is due and stop when you return from holiday.

JacquesHammer · 13/07/2018 10:52

In your choice I would definitely be on for my wedding day and be period free on honeymoon

specialsubject · 13/07/2018 10:54

other way round, I would say - dealing with a period in a gigantic frock will be difficult. Periods don't stop shagging.

if you aren't already on the pill you are probably too late to start. noretheristerone (possible dodgy spelling...) may work or may not.

Fatted · 13/07/2018 10:56

I used the one that stops bleeding when I was younger but it didn't work.

Personally, I'd be aiming to be period free on your wedding day. Going to the loo is hard enough in a wedding dress without trying to change a tampon as well

MikeUniformMike · 13/07/2018 11:09

The downside to taking the pill just to stop a badly timed period is that it can mess up your cycle and you end up bleeding every day.

MikeUniformMike · 13/07/2018 11:11

TBH, in your position, and if you know it will only be WD that is affected, I would just let it happen, make sure you are well and truly protected from leaks by a suitable pad.

Stephisaur · 13/07/2018 11:12

I took Norethisterone (alongside my BC pill) for my wedding last year.

The doctor told me that I was ok to take this for up to 3 weeks, but I only needed it for the wedding day and then the 2 weeks after that.

I had no issues. Once I stopped the pills, I got my period the next day.

MindatWork · 13/07/2018 11:12

You can take norethisterone for up to 2 weeks, op - you start it at least 3 days before you’re due on and you get your period 2-3 days after
you stop, so it should cover you for the wedding and at least some of the honeymoon.

I’ve had to take it numerous times for ivf and have never had any break through bleeding. You dont even need to go to the doctor, you can apply for it online from Lloyd’s pharmacy - you just have to have a blood pressure / weight check when you go to pick it up from your nearest branch.

Good luck and congrats on your wedding!

Celebelly · 13/07/2018 11:19

If you haven't taken it before, just be aware that it can have some side effects. I took Northisterone to delay my period for a holiday and it was awful. I still got intense period pains, just no bleeding - it was like my body was trying to have a period but couldn't. In the end I stopped taking it as I ended up having more days of period pain than I would have actually on my period. Obviously this doesn't happen for everyone, but I had a look online at the time and there were quite a lot of posts from women who had experienced similar. I'd be slightly wary of taking something new like this when you have a special day. If you've been on the pill before and it's suited you, then I would probably go on that instead of doing something new, even just for a month.

xJessica · 13/07/2018 11:19

Mine was due on my wedding day and I get terrible cramps. The Dr prescribed something that could stop it, I can't remember what it was called though! I ended up stopping taking it towards the end of our honeymoon because i was scared to take it TOO long in case it totally messed with my cycles!

sprinklesandsauce · 13/07/2018 11:22

I would go and see your doctor and get a prescription to get the period stopped from the wedding until after the honeymoon.

I was prescribed some when I was going on holiday and didn't want PMT to spoil things while I was away.

allertse · 13/07/2018 11:23

Why don't you take norethisterone for however many days before you're due to start, stop taking it on your wedding day, you'll probably have your period within the next few days and hopefully it'll be finished by the time you go on honeymoon?

Sometimes you still get period symptoms on norethisterone so I wouldnt want to risk being bloated/crampy for the whole 10 days of honeymoon, but if you're on the first couple of days it then won't ruin the rest of it?

Fuckedoffat48b · 13/07/2018 11:23

How bad/heavy is your period normally?
How big is your dress?

Iamtryingtobenicehere · 13/07/2018 11:28

If you start on the 13th and usually bleed for three days you will be finished or finishing on the 15th surely? 13,14,15 is three days. Although there is no guarantee that you will start on time so I’d get myself to the doctors , they will be able to prescribe something to delay your period, do that the month before and get your timing right so as you get a bleed a week before the wedding so you’re period free for wedding and honeymoon.

KM99 · 13/07/2018 11:33

I was on my period on my wedding day. Wasn't a problem. I got out of my dress totally to go to the loo, freshen up etc a couple of times. That was a lot less faff than lifting the skirts. I was towards the end of my cycle so lighter flow.

77leaves · 13/07/2018 11:35

I wouldn't experiment with the pill for your wedding. Taking the pill to stop your cycle isn't fool-proof, especially if you haven't been on them. Last time I tried it I ended up with terrible cramps and spotting anyway and everything just completely messed up.

ACatsNoHelpWithThat · 13/07/2018 11:35

I've taken norethisterone for 3 weeks (doctor prescribed) so you should be able to take it 3 days before your wedding day then all the way through till the end of your honeymoon. Just set a recurring reminder on your phone to remember to take the tablets.

reallybadidea · 13/07/2018 11:36

Are you due a period between now and then? Maybe try and delay that one long enough that you're not due another one until after the wedding and honeymoon. Looking at today's date I guess it might be too late though...

Countrygirl94 · 13/07/2018 11:38

I had this problem when I got married last year. I got the pill for my wedding and honeymoon. Problem was I has breakthrough bleeding my wedding day and throughout the honeymoon too! I would have been as well just leaving my body be and having my period on my wedding day.As I had the faff of pads anyway, which wasn't that bad and I had a bid wedding dress.

If your periods are bad I would honestly just leave be and if your regular and don't bleed for long chances are you'll be coming to the end of your period your wedding day anyway.

TakeMeToKernow · 13/07/2018 11:40

I took it too! Only to put my period back about 3 days though. Worked a treat, but I thought my period afterwards was particularly painful. Could've just been the power of suggestion though.

imamum21 · 13/07/2018 11:43

get norethisterone, its great. get it as soon as possible though and start taking it so your body gets used to it, when you stop taking it its roughly 3 days after you will get your period. im a long term user of norethisterone well 3-4 years i have been on them and they are brilliant

lololove · 13/07/2018 11:53

Are you perhaps able to take it THIS month to delay this period for as long as you can get away with (if it's not already too late)? to make it longer for next month? (if that's how it works - i haven't taken it before so not sure.)

Angelil · 13/07/2018 11:57

You can normally just run two packs together and your period won't come. I've done that before (admittedly a long time ago now!) and I remember that working. Of course you shouldn't do it too often.

Never even knew there was a prescription med that could stop your period that was separate to the pill itself.
