to worry about periods on love island?

Yes, I know I'm BU to watch the show in the first place, obviously .

But does anyone else wonder how on earth those women cope with their periods when they spend the entire time on camera wearing thong bikinis or equally skimpy silky pyjama shorts while in bed spooning with a man they met the day before ? Surely every now and then they must be desperate to wear a great big pair of comfy pants padded with copious sanpro.

Yeah I didn't have periods for years with the pill and then the coil. I doubt any of them are either.

M3lon · 13/07/2018 10:30

my periods sometimes require a full change of clothes in order to get through the day at work...

wearing a bikini would possibly make things easier for me...but messier for everyone else.

thenightsky · 13/07/2018 10:31

Its coz they are all post-menopausal obv. Grin

Sprogletsmuvva · 13/07/2018 10:32

Oh, and I once had cause to read up on the medical requirements for the British Antarctic Survey (no I wasn’t applying there- or LI — but for something that would have entailed far more being away from the usual resources of life).
One of the criteria for BAS was that women would be manually checked (IIRC) for fibroids before deployment. Because if you’re sending someone thousands of miles at great expense, the last thing you want is to spend £££s, be a person down and face hazards of medevac, for a flare-up of a foreseeable condition.
Puts speculation about periods on some trashy gameshow in context!

Polly2345 · 13/07/2018 10:33

The pill stopped my periods if I used it back to back but it also made me pile on a lot of weight and gave me depression. Guess I'm not suitable Love Island material!

SilverySurfer · 13/07/2018 10:35

Nobody else thinks this is a bizarre thing to worry about? Hmm

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 13/07/2018 10:35

I guess they are on the pill I don’t watch LI but we only see what’s considered entertaining

I do remember Kendra Wilkinson on I’m a Celebrity saying that she was on her period and Ant and Dec didn’t know how to respond I was amused by there response as it reflects how many men are and how ridiculous it is to pretend women don’t have periods especially those who are considered highly sexual

ivenoideawhatimdoing · 13/07/2018 10:35

I know one of them had a period... I think it was Laura? I saw in a magazine they’d made a huge thing about being able to see her tampon string in one shot... 🙄

BitchQueen90 · 13/07/2018 10:36

Yep, another one here who hasn't had a period in 5 years thanks to the mini pill.

Raisinbrain · 13/07/2018 10:39

I haven't had a period since 2005
#winsthread

thecatsthecats · 13/07/2018 10:41

I have been on the mini pill for 10 years, haven't had a period in about 9.5 years. Closest was a bleed post-smear test, and I couldn't fathom why anyone who didn't have the option to stop that shit wouldn't (obvious exception for people with light/easy periods bad side effects).

I know other people make different choices etc - but it just doesn't click in my brain that it could be better to spend cash on sanpro/painkillers etc every month rather than kill it off.

EscapeTheCastle · 13/07/2018 10:44

I've been wondering about the laundry facilities and also meals.

They have a fridge in the garden that seems to have snacks but I hope they have some proper meals as well. Of course they might be on strict slimming rations!

dogzdinner · 13/07/2018 10:44

Probably pill, but you can have a period and still wear a thong. Just use tampons or mooncup.

Wellthisunexpected · 13/07/2018 10:46

EscapeTheCastle it's fully catered and laundered. 3 meals a day and then snacks in the fridge. The alcohol is rationed though.

henpeckedinchief · 13/07/2018 10:56

You can have a period and still wear a bikini! Tampons and mooncups would mean that was fine. Although given that we haven't seen anyone miserably dying of cramps, I expect PPs are right about pills / coils / implants.

Sprogletsmuvva · 13/07/2018 11:05

How much laundry would it take if they’re all living in stringy bikinis, anyway?
For true backpackers, the mantra for knickers is “Wear one, wash one, dry one “: even in poor weather (presumably not an issue on LI ) you can get by fine on 3 pairs just by washing one out each evening.

EffRam · 13/07/2018 11:06

I read an interview with one of the contestants after last years series that they have people who come in and clean and change sheets, and mentioned that at least 2 of them had woken up to period and they just change all the sheets and don't mention it.

As for meals, apparently they have some amazing chefs and they all eat dinner together with crew and that's when microphones are charged so you never see it, or them cooking!

EffRam · 13/07/2018 11:07

When I say they 'don't mention it' I mean they obviously don't film and show it on the program. They obviously mention it to each other/the cleaners!

dumbmum1 · 13/07/2018 11:07

Dani said something to Jack about being in a bad mood even though her period wasn't due yet, plus the sighting of a tampon string shows that some of them are menstruating.

Cheekycherry99 · 13/07/2018 11:08

OMG, I was thinking about this too and thought that I was a weirdo lol.
Apparently they go on the pill to stop it for the 2 months.

runningkeenster · 13/07/2018 11:11

Surely every woman knows there are ways to stop periods

Only by hysterectomy or messing around with hormones, neither of which will appeal to many women.

notacooldad · 13/07/2018 11:12

Guess this would have ruled me out of love island...though the fact I'm ugly would have been more of an immediate problem
I'm sure you're not, but your comment made me laugh!

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 13/07/2018 11:27

Why are women being referred to as 'Barbie dolls'? They must seriously threaten you for anybody to have to make such a comment? Confused

thecatsthecats · 13/07/2018 11:53

runningkeenster

That wasn't the point. The point was that there are contraceptive options that prevent periods, and that most women know about it. Since you clearly do, you're only adding to that impression...

Don't want to is not the same as can't.

OuchLegoHurts · 13/07/2018 12:37

Because they are basically Barbie dolls. They're gorgeous and don't threaten me at all as I think I'm fairly attractive (in a different way). But they do aim for a Barbie doll look.
