Do I buy a class ring?

Posting here for traffic.

I'm graduating from a prestigious uni (my masters degree) at the end of this month, and I am wondering if I should get a class ring. It costs £200, and it's celestrium (stainless steel).

It'll probably be my last graduation ever, and I have graduated previously from other universities. I've never bought a class/graduation ring previously. But I can say that this graduation is the closest to my heart. I've n

I am not a jewellery person, so it will basically be a memento, probably not something I will wear often.

Do it? Don't do it?

I can see wanting a memento, but I would have thought it would be better to get one that you would find more use or pleasure from.

Yeah, I can afford it. But it's more of I'm thinking of buying it in case I regret not getting one someday. And since this is going to be my last graduation most probably. But not because I really want it.

If you won't wear it, it's just a useless trinket. Take that money and buy yourself something special that you'll actually enjoy. Congratulations!

Why not use the £200 to buy yourself another piece of jewellery to mark your graduation, one that you like and would wear. Maybe with a stone in the university’s colour?

My reason for wanting to buy is more of I'm worried I might not regret getting one, as opposed to me wanting to wear it all the time.

They are mass produced shit in the US, and I would imagine if it is made from stainless steel the quality there is also quite shit. They are always pretty ugly as well. I think the idea from a pp to buy special jewellery to commemorate it yourself is a better idea. Something you would wear all the time to remind yourself how well you did.

It's my first time to graduate in an Australian university. I have no idea whether it's common here or not, but it's an option in the graduation package.

If you can spare the money buy it.
You will regret not buying it but if you buy it and Chuck it in a draw it's only money wasted.

I'm intrigued. I thought they were American.

I've never heard of class rings, but it just sounds like a money making scheme. Surely the best mementos will be your degree certificate and photographs of you with friends from the course.

my hubby is an engineer and wears his engineering ring faithfully and i have mine from my nursing school that i've worn every day since i graduated from my program.
get it and wear it with pride.

I grew up and was educated in Australia and never heard of this then. It sounds like an American import and I personally would think "steer clear". Unless it was something you would actually be likely to use ie wear.
