Do I buy a class ring?

Posting here for traffic.

I'm graduating from a prestigious uni (my masters degree) at the end of this month, and I am wondering if I should get a class ring. It costs £200, and it's celestrium (stainless steel).

It'll probably be my last graduation ever, and I have graduated previously from other universities. I've never bought a class/graduation ring previously. But I can say that this graduation is the closest to my heart. I've n

I am not a jewellery person, so it will basically be a memento, probably not something I will wear often.

Do it? Don't do it?

What’s the point of it unless it is a beautiful thing you would wear anyway? And I bet it’s not.

The only people I have ever heard of that wear class rings are Americans who went to Annapolis or West Poing and wear them with your military uniforms. Or else Harvard grads who want to make sure you know it.

They’re a waste of money and I guarantee you will stop wearing it in a year or two.

Spend the money on a nice briefcase or other business accessory for your new career to treat yourself.

I wouldn’t buy it

I wouldn’t buy it. I’d just get some nice photos and treat yourself.

Can you post a picture ☺

I would mark the occasion with a classic piece of jewellery that you could wear to any occasion - diamond studs, gold studs, a silver or gold chain necklace or bracelet. You'll get lots of wear from it over your whole life and it will remind you of this achievement.

Seriously? Two hundred notes for a bit of stainless steel that you're not planning to wear? Not a chance.

If you want it, then you should.

I’m usually the last person to complain about the cultural hegemony of the USA - I got some of my son’s best stuff from my baby shower - but class rings are fuckin’ ‘orrible and they can absolutely keep ‘em. Are you James Spader/Craig Sheffer? Is it 1988? Then don’t buy one.
