I found it quite amusing that Trump thinks he can say that there will never be a trade deal with the US. Unless he plans on changing the US constitution, it's not something that he's going to be around long enough to dictate.

Lilacwine1 · 14/07/2018 10:42

Not deluded Bomb just practical.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 14/07/2018 10:54

I wonder how today's Pro Trump rally is going to go? I know from their twitter feed that the Met Police have serious concerns about it.

I saw about 4 pro Trump people yesterday in Parliament square. Funnily enough the only space on the square was a circle around them as everyone else politely avoided them.

If Trump is an ally, we have serious problems in our own country.

commonarewe · 14/07/2018 11:08

In general, right-wingers don't go on rallies and protests because they despise the public virtue-signalling that so turns lefties on ("Ready for the demo tomorrow?" "Yes, got my train tickets and my sign and my badges and my costume and everything - it'll be such fun!").

On the other hand they do vote, and in serious numbers. Hence Brexit, hence Trump...

lostincake · 14/07/2018 11:27

Trump is not our ally. He knows we need a trade deal with the US but it will be on his terms not ours.

As will any deal with the EU be on their terms, not ours.

maxthemartian · 14/07/2018 11:38

common you're just typing that you know are bollox now. Is it pay-per-post?

Of course right wingers (or "fine people") also demonstrate.
Lefties tend to kill fewer people with their cars while demonstrating though.

SalemBlackCat · 14/07/2018 11:49

@Silversfish Who do you assume everyone protesting against Trump is a 'leftie'? Why do the extreme far-right automatically see EVERYthing in a political prism? I know many, many righties who are against Trump. MANY. Try not thinking in left vs right and us vs them narrow terms for the rest of your life.

Bite your tongue if you like, but not me. We are in deep crisis and I will not stand by. I’d be ashamed to.

Hoppinggreen · 14/07/2018 11:54

I’m actually quite Right wing and I hate Trump
The “Lefties” aren’t the only ones who hate sexist, racist arseholes

SalemBlackCat · 14/07/2018 11:59

@Nancydrawn Stands up, applauds, whoops, cheers. You have said it exactly as it is.

He has not built the wall. He has not saved or created jobs. He has failed at EVERYthing. Not sure how people think he is doing an okay job. He has not achieved one thing. Not one. Except to attack everyone and everything. Throwing paper towels AT people's heads was disgusting. That footage was shown in various media in Australia. People were shocked into silence. Here, a PM goes to these disaster zones, hugs those affected, physically helps to clean up, and provides man power and various physical and monetary assistance.
In America, the rich leader picks up a roll of paper towels, throws it at someone's head, walks away. He lacks the ability to socialise with human beings. He doesn't understand how to relate or socialise with other human beings. He has no social skills whatsoever.

BonnieF · 14/07/2018 12:02

I’m no fan of Trump, but he has a point in some ways. European countries, with the exception of the U.K, have had a very good deal out of NATO for decades, without paying their fair share. He is

He’s also correct when he says that uncontrolled mass immigration was the main cause of the Brexit vote.

He’s still an obnoxious orange creep, though.

commonarewe · 14/07/2018 12:37

Of course right wingers (or "fine people") also demonstrate.
Lefties tend to kill fewer people with their cars while demonstrating though.

One demonstration and one fatality in a different continent define all right-wing protests, do they? What utter rubbish.

pointythings · 14/07/2018 13:34

I think the moment someone uses the term 'lefties' or 'rightists', they have lost the argument before they've even said anything. Using that terminology means they are not open to any form of debate.

I think anyone who refers to the Chinese regime as 'left wing' has a fundamental lack of understanding of political ideology - as a PP has said, the horseshoe model is accurate and the ideologies of extreme left and extreme right overlap more than they differ. Ironically enough those of us who choose to stand up and protest are probably more central in terms of ideological position than those who call us 'lefties'.

Apehouse · 14/07/2018 14:42

Xi is not leftist. He fits the dictionary definition of fascism. Don’t know whether people protested against him in the UK, but when he visited Berne a few years back, locals were ordered not to go out on their own balconies in case they displayed slogans offensive to the Great One. Could it be that western governments make it hard for people to protest against Xi (Chinese money being a force to be reckoned with) and are happy for us to protest against Trump since he, at least nominally, is on board with freedom of expression?

raisinsraisins · 14/07/2018 14:56

Most right wing people I know hate Trump too, for all the reasons in this thread.

However, I do believe it’s easy to protest Trump, because we know that so much of the media etc feel that way too. Just like there are pro-Palestinian/anti Israel protests in so many small towns across the UK, but a lack of visible protests against other countries with far worse human rights records.
