To want lots of layers in my hair?

My past 2 trips to the hairdresser (different places) haven't been very successful. I've tried to explain that I want lots of layers cut into my hair so it looks less like a rectangle, but they seem incredibly reluctant to add in any more layers than the bare minimum as "it wouldn't look right" on my fairly long hair. I'm £60 down and my hair still looks like a rectangle with no movement and no layers. Is the layered look unfashionable or something at the moment?

I've rocked up to the hairdressers with my pintrest board of ideas I like before now. It's definitely a good idea to take in pictures you like.

One thing I would say about the pictures you've posted you like is that the layers look really bouncy probably because of the way they've been styled as well as cut. To achieve that kind of look you'd probably need to blow dry it straight, getting loads of volume in and then pop some rollers in for a bit to stop it from drooping.

I used to always get mine layered, there’s so much of it! But my hairdressers over the last 3 years ish are reluctant too. I think it’s a fashion thing, it really is better with layers!

I hear you OP

I know one hairdresser who understands what I'm after and she's based in an area we no longer live in, about 2 hours away

I talked to her about it and she actually said she has a lot of clients say the hairdresser isn't listening

For me this includes
I tell them no texturising, they do it anyway
They somehow manage to make it a triangle
I show them one long layer cut in the back and they decide something else
According to my old hairdresser, some just don't know how to cut on the curl

I've even tried going to the old hairdresser and then going to a new one about two months after so they can see what to do but they get it wrong

I now cut my own hair mostly, alternating with £10 type places just to get a straight line at the back. But the long layer - if hairdressers won't do as they're asked, there's no point paying.

I used to like layers round my face (long straight hair) to break up my long face, but it's not in fashion now and I can't get any hairdressers to do it! They all do what you have said, a tiny layer at the bottom to 'give it movement', I want layers to break up my jawline....

"some just don't know how to cut on the curl".
I have posted on this many many times.
You need a hairdresser who understands your hair especially if you have a wave, kink or curl in your hair.
Are you in the Staines area OP? Roni there is brilliant. He'll cut your hair according to how your hair behaves.

I've had this problem with my long hair - I think the current trend is to do a straight cut. I recently found a hairdresser who understood what I meant and cut it in a v-shape. So shorter at the front and gently tapering to be longer at the back. Then combined with integrated layers. Takes lots of the weight off it but keeps it long.
