Anybody else find that men flirt with you when your ovulating?
Just putting it out there interested to see what your responses are!

Yes, but if you suddenly get a glass of unlabeled cola, do you know which it is?

If you do, great, but I don't, and the same applies to being able to tell whether a woman is ovulating.

Backtoblack1 · 12/07/2018 23:47

Yes they can and they do react to it! Hormones are a powerful thing and we are animalistic after all!

Glittered · 12/07/2018 23:48

Pepsi is kind of more sugary sweet even the diet one. Iess fizzy too

Yep! I can even feel which side I’m ovulating from and my husband is always hornier than usual. But he’s weird and also detects pregnancy in women. It’s his weird superpower.

itsclaire · 12/07/2018 23:50

I’ve noticed this and because I retain water at that time of the month, always found it odd because I’m quite bloated and, I think, at my most unattractive!

Tomatoesrock · 13/07/2018 00:53

Yes I believe they can, like all Mammals can.

MinorRSole · 13/07/2018 01:04

Pepsi and coke taste completely different, I would easily tell!

As above there is some scientific research to corroborate ops theory so not so silly really. I do know when I'm ovulating but I've never noticed any extra interest and dh is pretty amorous most of the time so not a great indicator. I'm getting on a bit so probably not much ovulating left in me anyway!

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 13/07/2018 01:36

Eh, when did the Pepsi/Coke debate roll up?

Our female cat (now deceased) was all over me like a rash when I was ovulating.

I knew I was every 2nd month because I got the mittleschmerz pain on my left side (never the right) . She was only interested then.

BadLad · 13/07/2018 01:39

Fair enough. I couldn't tell if I was suddenly given a glass of unlabeled cola and asked to identify it. When I taste them both together, I can tell that they are indeed different.

The point was that I can't tell if a woman is ovulating or not. The Coke v Pepsi was intended to illustrate that I perhaps could if I compared some women who were ovulating and some who weren't. Those circumstances are very unlikely to occur, admittedly.

Rainbunny · 13/07/2018 06:46

"I have no idea when I'm ovulating- how would anyone else know?"

Really? I always know when I'm ovulating and have done since my teens, I get a thicker discharge and I definitely feel my sex drive increase for a few days. I also find myself noticing attractive men when usually I'm fairly oblivious to my surroundings.

Sometimes I'll also "suddenly" notice some man I know or work with is quite attractive, after ovulation I go right back to not finding them attractive. I call it "ovulation goggles."

thecatsarecrazy · 13/07/2018 06:57

I know when im ovulating because its the only time im in the mood for sex. As for flirting nobody ever does that with me.

NutellaFitzgerald · 13/07/2018 08:09

Its pretty easy to know when you're ovulating if you know what to look for. People just aren't taught this in sex ed presumably in case misguided teens use it in lieu of more reliable contraception.

Fluffyears · 13/07/2018 08:14

We are animals at the end of the day and the survival of the species depends on us mating. I think we produce pheromones as a subtle signal to our partner. DH is definitely more interested when I’m ovulating and a bit more ‘protective’. If we’re holding hands and approach a road he’ll always pull my hand backwards whereas any other time we just approach and cross without the tugging. He also wants to feed me, buying snacks asking if I want x,y or z

Woodifer · 13/07/2018 08:16

pheromones and prob your own demeanour/ behaviour/mood

jainaproudm · 13/07/2018 08:44

I had an ex who would turn into a proper fiend (in a nice way!) when I was ovulating - just suddenly three times as horny. Loved it :-)

TheStoic · 13/07/2018 09:02

Not sure if men are more interested in me when I’m ovulating, but I’m definitely more interested in them.

TakeMeToKernow · 13/07/2018 09:43

Yep, an old kinda-bf-kinda-fling thing said I was “smelly” (in a good way! Grin)

echt · 13/07/2018 09:46

If men can sense ovulation, then why can't they sense how to hang the washing out properly/put dirty clothes in the laundry basket/hear the baby crying at night?

Hmm
SinceWhenDid · 13/07/2018 09:56

Echt 😂

Ansumpasty · 13/07/2018 10:00

Definitely- they just don’t know it. There was a study done (think it was on TV) and t shirts that ovulating women wore smelled better to men than women on their period, for example.

My husband acts differently when I’m ovulating but I also think a lot has to do with behaviour. Subconciously, I spend more time on my appearance and have a higher sex drive when I’m fertile. I’ll literally be curling my hair and realise I haven’t done it since last time I was ovulating.

You and me baby ain’t nothing but mammals

Setpeace · 13/07/2018 10:00

Absolutely!!

When I was younger like crazy now I'm older much less so from strange men but definalty from dh... Without a doubt.. So glad other people have experienced this

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 13/07/2018 10:19

ovulation goggles Grin

I definitely get this and I find alpha and very manly men more attractive usually I find them a bit intimidating

I find sex when I am on my period very intense and enjoyable maybe it’s natures way of contraception

How hormones impact moods and feelings never fails to facilitate me

Bujinkhal · 13/07/2018 10:36

It happens pretty much exactly like this.

arranfan · 13/07/2018 10:41

The article I had in mind is a research study that reports lap dancers earn more while ovulating than they do on other shifts: Ovulating lap-dancers make more money

". The lap dancers made $90 more per shift when they were ovulating than when they are in their luteal stage (the stage after ovulation but before menstruation) and $170 more than when they are in their menstrual phase. The news was very bad for lap dancers taking the pill. Those women made an average of $193 per shift compared to normally cycling women who averaged $276 per shift. Given the number of shifts the women perform, this difference translates into an almost $700 monthly penalty for women using oral contraceptives.

...

The authors summarize their finds better than I can: "For these reasons, we suspect that human estrus cues are likely to be very flexible and stealthy—subtle behavioral signals that fly below the radar of conscious intention or perception, adoptively hugging the cost-benefit contours of opportunistic infidelity.” (pg. 380)"

I think Ben Goldacre (and several other people) did an analysis that showed the data gathering was poor and the results unreliable but I remember the kerfuffle it caused.
