Stinky shoes?

I have some ballet type pumps that I have been wearing over the summer and they are getting pretty smelly. Any tips to get rid of the smell so they are wearable again? I only bought them a couple of months ago so don’t want to throw them out already.

T for Toes foot powder from Lush.

HelloEllo · 12/07/2018 14:15

Oh god I hear you, OP. I love wearing pumps in this weather but they smell so bad! To be fair I might just have smelly feet Blush

I bought Odour Eaters foot and shoe spray. It gets rid of the smell and is supposed to keep your feet dry too. It works for a while but when it's really hot I have to use it a few times during the day. It's quite cheap in Savers.

I find talc helps a little bit but not totally.

Pibplob · 12/07/2018 14:16

Yeah I have a foot spray but it’s no good. Someone told me cat litter but I don’t have a cat so don’t want to buy some cat litter in case it doesn’t work!

Unused, dry tea bags placed in each shoe overnight - in this weather you can leave the shoes outside as well - remove the tea bag and it will have absorbed the stench.

cherryberrie · 12/07/2018 14:18

Sprinkle loads of bicarbonate of soda in them and leave overnight then shake out in the morning. It's amazing for getting smells out of things. Also excellent for kid vomit in the car. It's as cheap as chips in Aldi, it's with the baking stuff.

and wear those little invisible socklets with your pumps. It makes a huge difference to your shoes and your feet!

Angie169 · 12/07/2018 14:21

Bi carb is good for refreshing any shoes , put about two teaspoons in and rub it into the innersoles. leave over night then empty out and repeat . this should get rid of the nasty niffs .
Or possibly chuck them in the washing machine on a cool gentle cycle.
I so this with my sandals about once a month but have not tried it with ballet pumps.

Pibplob · 12/07/2018 14:22

Will try one pair with tea bags tonight and the other with bicarb. I can’t wear the socklets with this type of shoe as you can see them. I do wear them with trainers tho and they are great.

IloveJudgeJudy · 12/07/2018 14:25

Be careful of them being chewed by foxes if you leave them outside!

MagicFajita · 12/07/2018 14:27

Sell them on eBay then buy yourself a fresh pair.

I'm kidding.

I have never found a way to unstink shoes so may try some of these methods above,
However, for new shoes I definitely recommend a sprinkle of Boots own brand super absorbent foot powder ( not the athletes foot one) directly into shoes before wearing. This stops my shoes getting stinky - i used to have to throw away so many pairs in the summer.

Slipp3rs · 12/07/2018 14:42

This sounds really silly but but then in the freezer over night.

Let them defrost in the morning and they don’t smell anymore.

mehhh · 12/07/2018 14:42

Literally just back st work this week and I'm looking for some flat black ballet shoes as they just go with most office wear - but I'm reluctant to buy them because they stink in literally a few weeks, I'm so glad I'm not the only one Grin

IlikemyTeahot · 12/07/2018 14:43

sell them Grin

Itscurtainsforyou · 12/07/2018 14:46

You need boot bananas! https://www.bootbananas.com

MrsRoyCropper · 12/07/2018 15:05

Try cleaning with bicarb as suggested, but going forward use a shoe liner and replace when necessary. Also avoid wearing every day, alternate with another pair so they dry out in between wears.

goose1964 · 12/07/2018 15:06

Cat litter also works

ToadOfSadness · 12/07/2018 15:13

You can buy little 'footy balls' to put in them overnight.

Cat litter, but the best is the silicon crystal type. I use little bags and fill them with it and a bit of lavender as air fresheners. Those little gift bags made of voile from Ebay.

Happypuppy · 12/07/2018 15:16

Teatree oil.

bluebellforest · 12/07/2018 15:17

I have some really small socklets that I got from Sainsbury's.
They just go over the heel a tiny bit and only just cover my toes.
Would they not be any good?

onanothertrain · 12/07/2018 15:19

Tea tree oil

speakout · 12/07/2018 15:19

Rotate your shoes.

If you wear the same pair every day then they will smell.
I have 5 or 6 pairs of shoes , I rarely wear the same pair for more than 4 or 5 hours at a time.

I go barefoot a lot and often wear crocs.
