It is poached but overcooked. Poached eggs are supposed to be runny.

PinkHeart5914 · 12/07/2018 13:54

It was poached but over poached Sad I love the yolk goodness too and would of been greatly disappointed

PinkHeart5914 · 12/07/2018 13:55

And your bacon looks dry, was it?

DontCallMeBaby · 12/07/2018 14:02

While you can poach an egg to that degree of hardness, what’s the point? I don’t believe anyone orders a poached egg expecting that. Bacon looks good, unusually crisped fat for a slice of back. But as a sauce-refuser who relies on egg yolk for breakfast lubrication it wouldn’t outweigh my egg-based disappointment.

This is a good fried breakfast. CalMac ferries know how to do this kind of thing. They don't attempt poached eggs, as far as I know.

They do scrambled eggs, link sausage, beans and mushrooms as well and you get tea/coffee and toast, butter and marmalade thrown in with the fried breakfast (six items standard, but you can pay for extra).

Always softens the blow of getting on the ferry to go home after visiting my mum and dad.

wagil · 12/07/2018 14:09

There are different ways of poaching, Gasp0de's Delia's one is cooked in shallower water.

AlwaysTheEnd · 12/07/2018 14:22

Little local cafe hence why I didn't sent it back

I think you should have taken it back. Most places genuinely want you to be happy with your food. The cost to them of cooking it for you again is minimal.

Obviously not all businesses care but if they don’t care then that’s even more of a reason to return it.

Myotherusernameisbest · 12/07/2018 14:23

I'd be so dissappointed at that egg. I love poached eggs. And the bacon looks like cardboard. If I was served that, I wouldn't go back. Ever.

PlatypusPie · 12/07/2018 14:36

I judge hotel breakfasts by how successfully they do their poached eggs ! I would have sent that back, small local cafe or not - especially if it is on sourdough bread which does need moistening so no teeth are endangered

LemonysSnicket · 12/07/2018 15:43

Meh it's an over done poached egg. Sad but happens

Hawkie · 12/07/2018 16:12

Yeah, but it was edible, just not what was expected. I hate food wastage, and I know they've had a bad week for various reasons.

I have learnt a lot about egg preferences in this thread, but I'm glad I am not the only one that would have expected it to be runny in the middle!

I can't get past the badly scratched plate. Makes it look even more unappetising and grubby. Urgh!

speakout · 12/07/2018 16:43

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g nice picture, but that fried egg will have a layer of snot/uncooked white over the top.

bilbodog · 12/07/2018 16:44

That picture could be a fried egg - poached usually have a thicker white. Any egg can be served with a runny yolk depending on how you serve it. I cant seem to post a link but google a poached egg and you will see what it looks like - but if it is cooked for too long the yolk will not be runny.

Talith · 12/07/2018 16:49

On the fence here... Looks a little dry but mostly fine to me. I don't want a raw yolk in a poached egg! 5/10.

Bacon 2/10 but it's quite hard to make back bacon anything other than salty chewy cardboard. Americans use rashers and get them crispy, THAT is the only way to eat bacon.

Talith · 12/07/2018 16:52

I meant streaky not rashers!
