Not a proper poached egg, and that plate looks like it has seen better days.

bellabasset · 12/07/2018 13:19

You can order poached eggs now in a lot of places. They, like both omelettes and scrambled eggs, might be reheated.

QueenoftheNights · 12/07/2018 13:19

I thought they were meant to have a runny yolk too! I thought that was the whole point of the poached egg concept... However, maybe I was wrong.

Yes, you are wrong. Poaching is the method.

Any egg other than scrambled can have a runny or set yolk- so that's boiled, fried, coddled, baked or poached eggs.

You can poach fruit (apples, pears, plums) salmon fillets, fish, chicken breasts- they don't have yolks- it's the way food is gently simmered in water- ie POACHED- to cook it.

KurriKurri · 12/07/2018 13:20

I didn't recognise the bacon - I thought it was another piece of weird shaped toast.

The egg is definitely poached (as opposed to fried or scrambled or boiled) and I wouldn't be too bothered about the fact it isn;t runny. But in future you need to ask for a lightly poached egg.

Bacon again - personal preference. I don't eat bacon but if i did I'd like it fairly crispy. (overcooked is my default preference for most foods Grin)

Racoon100 · 12/07/2018 13:20

That looks so dissapo Bring. Egg not runny and bacon not crispy!

KinkyAfro · 12/07/2018 13:21

That other egg looks more fried than poached as it's pretty flat. This is what I think a poached egg should look like including runny yolk

Looks semi-scrambled to me.

PerfectlySymmetricalButtocks · 12/07/2018 13:23

Are you in the Asda café. That's what they did to my poached eggs. Now I have breakfast in the Sainsbury's café and then go to Asda.

CatchIt · 12/07/2018 13:26

Sorry @Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g that's a fried egg, you're after this:

Tinkobell · 12/07/2018 13:27

What an outrage! What's this country coming too??! 😬

CatchIt · 12/07/2018 13:27

But OP, you're right, there's nothing more disappointing than an over cooked poached egg. I do it to myself sometimes and I want to punch myself in the face for ruining my breakfast!

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 12/07/2018 13:30

Here is a picture from the Blessed Delia Smith's website. This is what I think a poached egg should look like as it leaves the pan.

They poached it and then they stamped on it.

PerfectlySymmetricalButtocks · 12/07/2018 13:30

*obviously I meant café?

Haberpop · 12/07/2018 13:32

That is an overcooked poached egg, it is sad that some places still insist on cooking eggs to death. I love poached eggs, especially eggs I have collected from my girls that day.

diddl · 12/07/2018 13:32

I guess it was a hard poached egg!

I thought that there should be some runny yolk though-thought that that was the point of poaching!

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 12/07/2018 13:32

I think we'll have to agree to differ about whether my other picture shows a fried or a poached egg. I thought it was very clearly a poached egg because there is no sign of oil/fat and no crispy bits on the white.

This is a fried egg.

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 12/07/2018 13:33

It looks like fried, I think.

Hawkie · 12/07/2018 13:33

That was my angry fork that smashed it up. We were hunting for the runny bit because it was on sourdough and it's quite crunch without having any moisture in.

The egg was intact when it arrived and then I went to do the bread flood and it was sourdoughly disappointing.

Little local cafe hence why I didn't sent it back.

Check out the bacon, what does everyone think of the bacon?

It's not bad. I love bacon but it has to be the American style bacon that is crisped to within an inch of its life and it shatters when you put a fork on it. Hate white fat on my meat.

Mummyoflittledragon · 12/07/2018 13:34

It looks murdered. Fried And stuck to the pan.

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 12/07/2018 13:34

Oh sorry, Gasp0de's egg is fried.

OP's is something else entirely. But what?

legolimb · 12/07/2018 13:34

Doesn't look very appetising.

Looks like they need new crockery too.

I'm with you OP. A poached egg should have a runny yolk and an un-rubbery white. There's nothing so disappointing as an overcooked poached egg.

Maybe they need lessons on how to get it just right.

Mummyoflittledragon · 12/07/2018 13:35

Oh you murdered it.

Hawkie · 12/07/2018 13:36

@Mummyoflittledragon

I was hunting for the runny bits!!!
