to ask for Campsite recommendations?

AIBU to finally have fallen in love with camping? Or is it because realistically it's the least expensive option these days?

Just been camping with the kids and some great pals. We had a great time and the children made "weekend friends" all over the campsite.

I feel confident that I could manage to take them on a solo-parenting camping jaunt this summer, just for a change of scene. Happy to bounce from one place to another and show them a bit of beach, countryside, hills or mountains (with a few interspersed pubs please).

AIBU to request recommendations for nationwide reasonably priced campsites we must put on our new camping bucket -and spade- list?

What area of the country? I have lots of recommendations for the south west but no good if you are in Scotland!

ScoobyCan · 10/07/2018 17:17

Thanks @Nodancingshoes - honestly, anywhere. We are midlands but I'm prepared to go in any direction - thank you!

I know some in the north west (ish)
give us a clue where you want to go , do you drive or will it be coach / train to get you there ?

Angie169 · 10/07/2018 17:19

oops sorry cross posted , hang on . . . . .

ScoobyCan · 10/07/2018 17:20

Thanks @Angie169 - I've got wheels. No childcare provision over summer so really the world is our oyster.

Uk campsite has loads of reviews.

Are you after basic or fancy?

wineandcatsandlego · 10/07/2018 17:22

We've recently come back from The Quiet Site in Ullswater in the Lake District, absolutely gorgeous, some lovely pubs and walks plus a great little 'nook' of a pub onsite. Tons of kids kicking about, a kids play area, great washing and toileting facilities, shop on site for necessities, AND if you have any little nature fans they have an abundance of red squirrels on site and surrounding area :-)

Which part of the country are you in or thinking of going?

I love your enthusiasm to go from place to place. I really love camping but just couldn't bring myself to pitch and pack away more than once per trip.

Angie169 · 10/07/2018 17:25

Harrogate , Bolton le sands just out side Morecombe I do know more but can not think of them right now . I will send more details this evening .

ScoobyCan · 10/07/2018 17:26

@wineandcatsandlego that sounds absolutely lovely - and good to be able to walk to the various establishments!

@Notevilstepmother personally I like a good shower and a clean loo - the kids looked filthy after just a couple of days and weren't bothered at all! I'm not averse to a more "basic" site if "fancy" means expensive glamping though!!

Meadow falls in Ingleton is fab. Great for the kids too as it has a park that you all camp around. It's £24 for the night with hook up and everything is clean. Nice walk into Ingleton too to see the waterfalls hit be prepared to pay to see them at £6 per adult xx

GreenFingersWouldBeHandy · 10/07/2018 17:27

The Forest of Dean has lots of campsites - ranging from farmer's fields right up to posh glamping pods etc... beautiful too and lots of family activities; cycling/Go Ape etc.

ArfArfBarf · 10/07/2018 17:28

Breck farm in North Norfolk is nice. LOADS of families and reasonably relaxed. I know of a few nice ones in the West as well but they are car free near the tents and you could probably do without that if you are the only adult.

@drumandthebass have I set myself up for a spectacular fall?!! Should I have asked for campsites from where we can explore without having to take the tent down and pitch it back up again over and over? Uh oh.... thanks for the insight Blush

We loved this place at Birchover near Matlock. They really had thought of everything on site - and there is an amazing walk to an isolated stone circle nearby: www.barnfarmcamping.com

HyacinthsBucket70 · 10/07/2018 17:34

We loved Three Cliffs Bay - threecliffsbay.com/camping. And East Fleet near Chesil Beach, Dorset. www.eastfleet.co.uk/facilities/pitches/

ScoobyCan · 10/07/2018 17:35

Thanks all - these recommendations are splendid! I aim to get the map out this evening and start planning.

I’m not actually sure if I want to share this place! I love it so much, best campsite we’ve ever been too (and we’ve been doing this for years!)

Freshwater bay (Burton bradstock) is great for kids. Indoor and outdoor pools and own pebbly beach, bar and entertainment. Very clean showers / loos. Not quiet and relaxing tho! Warcombe farm near woolacombe. Lovely, quiet family site with cafe and playpark. Woolacombe beach is amazing. Oakdown in Sidmouth. Right next to the donkey sanctuary. Lovely, quiet site for families. CMOTDibbler · 10/07/2018 17:54

Fforest Fields for us too - we love the quiet nights, lack of entertainment, the stars and all the happy kids zooming round on bikes, paddling in the streams and swimming in the lake.

Can't wait till we're back there in a few weeks!

OnTopOfSpaghetti · 10/07/2018 17:58

Definitely agree with setting up and staying put! Such a hassle to keep packing up and moving on.
Two favourites of ours in North Devon:
North Morte Farm which is in the little village of Mortehoe and 10 mins drive from Woolacombe beach. You can walk to Rockham Bay from the campsite. Gets v busy in the Summer though and you can't book.
Caffyns Farm near Lynton. Great shop, showers, cafe, lovely big fields, sea view. Can be windy and need to drive anywhere interesting. Very peaceful.

Troika · 10/07/2018 18:00

I agree with East fleet farm, lovely site.

Beachside in hayle

And um, one in the new forest that I can’t remember the name of...

NoFuckingRoomOnMyBroom · 10/07/2018 18:00

Callow Top near Ashbourne is great, we've been there a couple of times, can highly recommend.

Surfingwhippet · 10/07/2018 18:31

All my childhood holidays were spent at West fleet farm in Weymouth. Have only been to East fleet once and that was an adult. Either way the area is brilliant and worth visiting
