to ask for Campsite recommendations?

AIBU to finally have fallen in love with camping? Or is it because realistically it's the least expensive option these days?

Just been camping with the kids and some great pals. We had a great time and the children made "weekend friends" all over the campsite.

I feel confident that I could manage to take them on a solo-parenting camping jaunt this summer, just for a change of scene. Happy to bounce from one place to another and show them a bit of beach, countryside, hills or mountains (with a few interspersed pubs please).

AIBU to request recommendations for nationwide reasonably priced campsites we must put on our new camping bucket -and spade- list?

Broad Meadow House in Charlestown, Cornwall, is a delightful tiny campsite in a great location for exploring Cornwall. Beaches are deserted and the harbour looks like it is still run by pirates!!

Lemond1fficult · 10/07/2018 18:46

This place in Kent is beautiful: www.welsummercamping.com/

Heritage Coast campsite is 15 miles from Cardiff. I always meet lots from the Midlands there as its relatively short travel time. There is a beach, countryside and a naice cafe/bar.

ScoobyCan · 10/07/2018 19:31

Goodness me thanks so much! Just put the kids to bed come back and there's a veritable feast of opportunities! I shall sit down with my map and Google all these recommendations - thank you!

Scooby No, I think its probably just me being lazy! You can only see how you get on .I just know personally, once I've packed the tent away and all the rest of -shit- paraphernalia, I don't want to be doing it again for at least a couple of weeks.

I agree with others that UK Campsite is a great website.

If you want the seaside Southwold campsite is great. Its a council run site but the beach is a walk across the road and the town within walking distance.

Strikethrough fail. shit

If you'd go abroad I can not recommend campsite lanterna enough.

It's in Istria croatia and if you're driving the scenery is beautiful going through France, Germany, Austria. I'd make sure you had two adults but I'm telling you it's sooooo worth it. It's a 4 star campsite with every convenience, miles of coastline, kids clubs, music and nightlife all in one. Cost us 400 euros for 10 nights in August (2 adults and a child ).

We can't wait !!!

Borrowdale youth hostel in the lake district has a small campsite attached to it, brilliant, proper toilet and showers, they do a full english breakfast in the cafe part in the morning and basic but reasonably priced evening meals, theres a water urn in the kitchen and huge fridges for your food and milk, and cookers if you want to self cater, the camp bit is by a small river so very pretty, and lots of country walks, and if in the car borrowdale valley is a super ride through amazing scenery, i would reccomend it to anyone

LtGreggs · 10/07/2018 22:08

Would you go as far as north west Scotland? Beautiful beachside campsites. If you go right up north, £20 a night for family tent, on beachside sites with lovely shower blocks etc. Try Durness or Assynt (Achmelvich or Lochinver?). Or Big Sands at Gairloch.

New House farm near Buxton is brilliant. It's an organic farm, you can buy their meat and cheese and milk at the farm shop. They have animals toing free, including the most awesome ducks and chickens with 60s bouffant hair do's! However it isn't for the faint hearted- the toilets are composting ones and there's no showers or hot water! It's definitely an experience you should try though!

ok now I remember , the site in Harrogate , is actually in Ripply I have stayed there 4 or 5 times . the site is big and well maintained the shower and loos are very clean . they allow dogs on site in a separate area ( but still good area )
They advertised a kiddies heated pool and play area which they do have but it is only small and I guess would not keep dcs over about 6/ 7 entertained for more than a hour or so . That said durring the summer there tends to be lots on with in a 20 min walk in near by fields ( fairs / shows / car boots etc ) there are a few nice pubs near by but the walk ( about 20 mins ) is mostly on a rough grass verge on a very busy 60mph narrow rd.

Boulton le sands campsite is called Red Bank Farm , this is right on the coast ( literally ) this is a big site with very good loos and showers and a very popular cafe on site . there is no kiddies play park of any sort but with the beach so close I dont think its a problem . however the nearest pub is a bit of a trek, a good 15 min walk then a 15 min bus ride but that gets you into the town centre with lots of pubs and restaurants near by .

Last week i stayed at a very nice place in Anglesey . this was advertised on air b&b , not something I would of considered normally but we were meeting up with family and all the hotels were booked. this place is lovely and you have a choice of a 2 bed caravan a 2 bed chalet ( bunk beds so sleeps at least 4 ) or a self contained flat it has a huge garden , or a TREE HOUSE the couple that run it are very nice . however ( to our disappointment ) there are no pubs anywhere near by , we got a taxi each way costing about £20 per trip )
If you would like more details on this let me know and I will send you their number .

Wellthisunexpected · 10/07/2018 22:40

Holme open farm is also good. Has a river you can play in, paddle or fish with nets and a petting zoo/ farm type thing! There are flushing toilets and hot showers at this one too!

Patsy72 · 10/07/2018 22:47

We really liked Deersglade campsite in Norfolk. Humble Bee Farm campsite near Filey was also great.

Weedsnseeds1 · 10/07/2018 23:24

Have a look at the Gower, South Wales, particularly Rhossili Bay. It's frequently ranked in top 10 beaches in the world!
I'm the other side of the bridge and would suggest Cheddar, Exmoor or Mill Farm and The Hideout near Bridgwater.
Also, St Audrey's / East Quantoxhead - they have statics and cabins, but think there's actual camping as well. Amazing scenery and fossil hunting at Kilve!

appleoftheluck · 10/07/2018 23:39

Burrowhayes Farm, West Luccombe near Porlock in Somerset is one of my favourite campsites and we have stayed there lots of times over the years.

Nodancingshoes · 11/07/2018 17:08

Appleoftheluck - I love it there too! Lovely horse riding, stream that the kids can play in and some gorgeous tea rooms

Almostfifty · 11/07/2018 17:19

As Comedy said, Fisherground is great, you can have campfires there and go on the Ratty.

Dornoch is a lovely site, with fabulous beaches, www.dornochcaravans.co.uk/ loved it there.

UnlawfulBananaPeeler · 12/07/2018 18:29

I have stayed in Harbour Lights campsite in Milliom (45 minutes from Windermere) and it’s beautiful, small and well kept. Allowed fires ect. I stayed in a camping pod but you can stay in a tent. It wasn’t too expensive even in the pods! 2 minted walk from a beach , 5-10 from a Tesco. There’s showers and toilets ect . I really loved it

milkjetmum · 12/07/2018 18:32

Wellington country park, small, good shower facilities and loads for the kids to do. Love it!
