to wonder what the real reason for them missing the christening is?

The BBC are reporting that the Queen and D of E are not going to the christening of Prince Louis but say it's not due to ill health.

Why else would they miss it? It doesn't make sense to me.

I expect these occasions have to be much more formal when the Queen is present. Maybe she is giving them space so that they can enjoy a relaxing day. Also she needs her rest, at 92, the travelling and the heat are probably taking a toll. I always think the stiff clothes she wears must be very restricting. The Queen Mother always wore much lighter and softer fabrics in flowing styles.

As to why they are stressing that it. Is not ill health. The papers would have a field day speculating on the reasons otherwise

YearOfYouRemember · 09/07/2018 16:04

They have a busy week. It says so Hmm.

TheOrigFV45 · 09/07/2018 16:05

They'd rather watch Wimbledon?

SpandexTutu · 09/07/2018 16:05

At that age they can do whatever they like, royalty or not.

Aprilshouldhavebeenmyname · 09/07/2018 16:06

Maybe William /Kate's budget wouldn't cover the cost of extra security?
Or maybe they didn't cough up £65 each to pay for the after party (see thread elsewhere!)?

ReservoirDogs · 09/07/2018 16:23

To the poster who asked Trump arrives on Friday the 13th Grin

Well the Queen spent the last week in Scotland for Holyrood Week, and has been in Norfolk over the weekend and is travelling back this evening for the Trump visit+other things. The court circular details all of these events weeks in advance. She's a very busy, and also 92 year old so possibly a bit hot and tired, lady.

The DoE is probably still feeling unwell, not only is he 97 and recovering from major surgery but it's hot and probably a bit of a pain in the arse to travel from Sandringham to London just for a 30 minute christening, even if it is your Great Grandson.

Ta1kinPeace · 09/07/2018 16:33

Do Great Grandparents HAVE to go to Christenings ?
surely its about the parents and the godparents
who will be there to support the child as they grow up
a pair of nonagenarians do not meet that criteria
regardless of who they are

QuinquiremeOfNineveh · 09/07/2018 16:36

HMQ's probably got a lot of reading to do before she sees the PM this week, what with all the minutes of Cabinet meetings, resignation letters and so on.

AsAProfessionalFekko · 09/07/2018 16:37

Are they not still in Edinburgh?

AsAProfessionalFekko · 09/07/2018 16:39

I guess she is practicing her smile for when trump visits and teaching Philip to say
'yes'
'no' and
'that would be an ecumenical matter'

Ta1kinPeace · 09/07/2018 16:39

Feck

AsAProfessionalFekko · 09/07/2018 16:40

Arse

ThomasNightingale · 09/07/2018 16:41

She’s got 4 kids, 8 grandkids, 10-ish greatgrandkids, plus nephews, nieces, great and great-great nieces/nephews, plus thirty (30!) godchildren. I think she’s probably had enough christenings for one (or even several) lifetime.

ThomasNightingale · 09/07/2018 16:42

Mind you, if ever there was a guest for whom you didn’t want to put Phil on his best behaviour…

Ta1kinPeace · 09/07/2018 16:43

Fekko
Philip has very long fingers and large hands - I suspect he'll be able to stir it with the Donald just in the way he shakes hands Grin

MumW · 09/07/2018 16:43

I think it makes sense for all the reasons mentioned above.

After all, one has to look after oneself when one gets older. Wink

AsAProfessionalFekko · 09/07/2018 16:45

So you think he will try to kiss the Queen or arm wrestle her?

DieAntword · 09/07/2018 16:46

Maybe the reception cost £65 a head?

sockunicorn · 09/07/2018 16:51

im unsure why people look for reasons that arent there. i would say because shes in her 90s, its hot and she cant be arsed. she has to get dressed up every day and maybe she just wants a day watching coronation street in her onesie.

However, thats no fun is it and doesnt feed the "shes dying" hysteria. So I guess its because shes the lizard overlord and her and wills had a massive bust up because she wanted to eat Louis and he wouldnt let her. So theyre not speaking. Shes probably going to cut his breaks on his car they have form

mostdays · 09/07/2018 16:51

Kate and Wills already have an heir and a spare so Louis is officially a bit pointless? /s

Idk, maybe they just can't be arsed. At their age that should be sufficient reason for anything they don't fancy doing. If I get that old I won't be dressing nicely and going to events, I'll be in a onesie eating crisps and cheese strings and drinking a lot of cider.

Undercoverbanana · 09/07/2018 16:57

Matalan have got a good sale on.

mtpicasso · 09/07/2018 16:57

I think it is slightly unusual. The Queen is in London for the RAF Flypast tomorrow so could have been here this afternoon.
