To let rip at my neighbour tomorrow?

Very very grumpy right now.

Live in a busy and somewhat noisy street but kind of used to it. However, around 9.45 tonight an alarm of some kind started going off in a nearby house. Its piercingly loud even with the windows shut.

I went out after an hour and tracked it down to an empty house down the street that's being done up. None of its windows are open but it can still be heard even over the TV. Can't see a burglar alarm anywhere and it's not a fire alarm.

I'm knackered, kids finally got to sleep but I'm now raging. I've opened the windows again cos I can still hear it if they're shut and it's too hot anyway.

Bleep Bleep Bleep....Bleep bleep fucking Bleep. He's gonna get a frigging mouthfull when he turns up in morning Angry

We had this. It started early morning and when o did the 10 minute walk to school I could still hear it. On return several neighbours were out investigating. Not the first time. We contacted the police and environmental health as the alarm was not stopping by tea time. Environmental health and the police can force entry to the house if deemed necessary.

Alarm hasn't gone off since so fingers crossed it's fixed.
Thank you to all the helpful posts.

Its quite simple. Get the number of the contractor/key holder/new neighbours as they may not know its.going off amd hand it out and as sokn as it goes off ring them. Ask for a few numbers and smile sweetly and say "I wouldnt want you to get in trouble with environmental health for noise pollution" Smile

Do contact your local council about the alarm, get your neighbours to do the same and put a note through the door telling the builders what you have done. You could also ask them for the name and contact details of the owner.

As for the work being carried there are laws about the hours that building work can take place, if you have a record of these early morning late night works you can also pass that on to the council.

This is not really the polices responsibility it comes under environmental health..but just ring the council and they will contact you with the correct dept. If the owner is a developer they might all ready know him.

Good luck jane

I agree with letting the builder/owner/whoever know. If you notify incumbents and no improvement, phone the police and say you thought you saw an intruder get into the building and close the window behind them, but were too afraid to go look-see !!! Tell 'em it goes off all the time and you are worried the burglar may know this as nobody does anything. Tell the builders or whoever the same story. Say you thought you saw an intruder, or you suspect they might be squatters.

Can you get a number from your neighbour to call and tell them it’s going off next time?

Br1256 · 11/07/2018 11:40

Think very carefully before giving false information to the police, not only is it a criminal offence but you could also be diverting resources from a real crime.

Glad it seems to have stopped

babyno5 yeah, I've noticed some people are very quick to jump to conclusions about the 'mental health' of others. You need to be absolutely specific and choose your words VERY carefully Wink
