Why oh why do they always do close ups of attractive women crying when their team loses?! Does anyone else find this a bit creepy? Disclaimer- I have no idea if they are men and this is slightly lighthearted before anyone feels the need to froth.

The Swedish women I think were some of the wives or girlfriends of the team. But that aside they do have a tendency to focus on the attractive women in the crowd. I don't know why

IDontBowlOnShabbos · 07/07/2018 22:19

Yes films and sporting events are exactly the same.

CointreauVersial · 07/07/2018 22:19

i noticed this too! Lots of blonde Swedish stunners, gazing tearily at the pitch.

AWomanIsAnAdultHumanFemale · 07/07/2018 22:22

Ha - i noticed this! It’s a good drinking game.

Grin
IDontBowlOnShabbos · 07/07/2018 22:25

I'm probably drunk enough to be fair.

Its the same in most sports although Wimbledon prefer to focus on elegantly attractive. Wasn’t Pamela A “discovered” at a sports game

RainbowsAndSmiles · 07/07/2018 22:30

They do close ups on men crying too though

Exactly.

Sommelierrrr · 07/07/2018 22:36

There was a lot of slo mo attractive woman bouncing. And close ups of attractive women. Far more than of the attractive men.

gillybeanz · 07/07/2018 22:36

The swedish game showed men and women crying and a baby with ear defenders on.
The woman wasn't crying at first, maybe they were showing how family friendly it was.
At the time the commentator was stating how well behaved the English fans had been in the run up to the match.
The matches I've seen have shown men crying because I mentioned it to dh about how intensely they supported their team.
We've seen players crying too, and unless I'm mistaken they are all men.

LuluJakey1 · 07/07/2018 22:38

They are called 'honey shots'. You'll see them at many big televised events. Wimbledon do it all the time. If there is a break or they want to hsow a reaction they look for pretty women or famous people or idiots.

Halfblindbunny · 07/07/2018 22:38

They normally just focus on people who will make good telly i.e attractive women/me., kids, people dressed up etc

AWomanIsAnAdultHumanFemale · 07/07/2018 22:40

The only attractive Swedish men I saw were on the pitch.

IDontBowlOnShabbos · 07/07/2018 22:40

Are 90 percent of the men they show crying attractive though? If so then I'll reevaluate my stance.

IDontBowlOnShabbos · 07/07/2018 22:42

Who says that men (ugly, attractive, normal), kids and ONLY ATTRACTIVE women make good tv though?

OP posts:
MrsCatE · 07/07/2018 22:42

I was clocked once (not crying) just staring around aimlessly at half time. Got loads of texts - was puzzled by first; 'nice shades! x'

hiddenmnetter · 07/07/2018 22:43

On Twitter:

The golden boot goes to the cameraman for zooming in on Swedish female fans

OrdinaryGirl · 07/07/2018 22:46

Yup. Commented on exactly this point earlier. The male gaze.

michellefromtheresistance · 07/07/2018 22:47

Happens at any live event. Once you notice it, it's glaringly obvious.

Pop concerts, tennis, football, rugby...

I wonder why the producers want to have pictures of young, attractive women when they cut to crowd close ups?

IDontBowlOnShabbos · 07/07/2018 22:47

Yes Pamela was discovered at a sporting event pre cosmetic enhancements! But obviously wasn't good enough so had to have lots of surgery before she was 'tv attractive'.

OP posts:
Tidythatmess · 07/07/2018 22:49

I remarked on this during the match...lots of close ups of the same stunning Swedish fans. They are all ridiculously good looking!

QueenArnica · 07/07/2018 22:50

My dh commented on this both today and in some of the other matches. He was really Angry about it as the dad of a teenage daughter. He was ranting that it’s 2018 and it was sexist bollocks Grin

IDontBowlOnShabbos · 07/07/2018 22:51

Because women aren't really valued by society unless they are aesthetically pleasing?

Sprogletsmuvva · 07/07/2018 22:52

Not seen the football, but there are certain tedious certainties about newspaper pics to illustrate recurring stuff:
hot weather story? Young women in bikinis.
uni May Day celebrations? Young women, possibly topless.
A-level/GCSE results? Girls, often with long blonde hair, conventionally pretty, jumping in the air.

LouiseCollins28 · 07/07/2018 22:54

Surely feminist MN would be glad that lots of female fans are being shown, no? ;-) Some of the Russians they showed in the game this evening looked fabulous, soo glam.

Missbrick1 · 07/07/2018 22:58

So true about weather stories, always girls in bikinis celebrating etc. Now I don’t particularly care that much but I do enjoy looking at attractive men so would like a bit more equality please.
