I think the fact that it's M&S rather illustrates the op's point. Sensible and reliable, rather than high fashion. And the modelling was presumably a contractual requirement, in return for M&S supplying the outfits. (And they must be well pleased with the Southgate Effect.)

Is the barber thing about vanity though? Think about it they're achieving stuff that will be replayed on tv screens for years to come and after spending all hours training if they want/need a haircut so fifty years from now when their clips are replayed they look 'decent' and not have people start threads 'oh that 2018 wasn't great looking was it'

Don't think taking their own barber is vein. It's 30+° heat they are training and playing in. They need to have haircuts to keep cool and probably have other things to focus on than sourcing a Russian barbershop.

Thankfully they are judged on footballing ability not their looks
