To have only just noticed (thanks to MN) that there's a football thing going on?

That's it, really. I don't have a television. Radio 3 doesn't mention football. No adult male in the house. University DS is a classical musician who wouldn't know a football if he fell over it. Teen DD is only interested in the slugs above her eyes her eyebrows. But according to MN, there's a football competition going on. AIBU not to have noticed?

Just wish I could have said the same of the Royal Wedding, train. Even I couldn't fail to notice that. Grin

OP you’re trying to virtue signal but you just come across as a bit uninformed

AntoinetteOuradi · 05/07/2018 20:59

Weird, no. If I were trying to signal my virtue, I'd start reading the Guardian. I am entirely unvirtuous in every regard, I promise you. I just couldn't give a shit about football (or tennis. I gather this is going on, because I tried to ring someone today, only to be told that she was at Wimbledon. I had not taken that one in, either. Though I do know the dates of Glyndebourne and the Proms. How could anyone not know this, if they listen to the radio or take any interest in what's going on? I think that's quite a fitting analogy).

I rely on R3 and also subscribe to the Times Online (which doesn't seem to involve people kicking balls around).

What about the corruption allegations against Russia’s World Cup bid? Or the fallout from the Salisbury poisonings - Boris Johnson comparing Russia’s World Cup to Hitler’s 1936 Olympics, and the Royal Family and government ministers staying away? Or MPs warning LGBT England fans that they’re not safe in Russia?

This isn’t news about ‘people kicking balls around’ (which is mostly confined to the sports pages and which I also have little to no interest in). It’s current affairs and politics. And as a fellow Times reader I find it bizarre that you could have missed all this stuff. I guess you also have no clue about Qatar 2022 and the serious human rights violations happening over there?

This thread is so try hard, it's cringeworthy, I'm honestly surprised it isn't actually a troll post.
