To complain about the delivery time

Clubcuts · 04/07/2018 09:01

So son and DIL moved into a new flat two days ago.

As a gift ordered them a bed. Delivery confirmed between 7-12 today, they are the top floor in a block of 6.

They turned up at 6.20am, son did accept delivery, maybe he should've sent them away.

I'm sure someone will be unhappy at being disturbed by son and dil taking delivery upstairs, justifiably so.

Is it worth complaining to the company? It's done now, can't be undone and it's not something compensation worthy. We have used this company before but not likely to buy another bed for a looooooongg time.

It'll probably get the delivery driver in trouble but it was not on, different if it had been a house so not disturbing others or
If they'd text to ask, but to deliver to flats that early is surely a no no?

Would you just leave be?

@Gooseygoosey12345 can you read? Really can you? I am not complaining and never have complained it was early. I was concerned about neighbours.....Jesus if you're going to kick off at least have right on your side!

And for your information I do regularly tip, but not if their attitude is like yours.

Oh and why would I have the skill set of a delivery driver when I'm not doing their job? Random mad comment!

Most of whom probably couldn't drive a van. He deals with people like you on a regular basis,

you mean paying customers? You calling them moany brats doesn't bother me, it's just sad that you have such a chip on your shoulder. If you think you are better than others, why don't you get yourself a decently paid job - and leave your husband worrying about his own customers.

GettingAwayWithIt · 04/07/2018 15:02

OP you’re getting really wound up about this...

Yes it’s a pain that they turned up early. Yes the neighbours might have been cross hearing a bed being delivered downstairs at 6:20am. I don’t think 6:20am racket is much worse than 7am racket although I do agree with another poster in that if I knew it was from 7am I might not have been in the house before then. I don’t think it’s worth complaining to the company. I like the idea of your son and DIL using it as a way of getting to know their neighbours, a little apology goes a long way and it would mean they introduce themselves.

I don’t live in a flat but I do live in a terraced street and accept a certain level of noise and disruption from neighbours. A few weeks ago next door were getting a Sky dish installed on the wall outside our front door. I was trying to catch up on some sleep and our car ended up covered in dust. I didn’t complain to next door as we get on and it’s not the end of the world. As long as stuff like that is not every day I just accept that it’s going to be noisy sometimes.

@GettingAwayWithIt I asked a question and I'm irritated that people are not reading it! I have never complained about it being early in terms of inconvenience to my son.

And as for @Gooseygoosey12345 she's just being ridiculous and acting like her OHs job is the worst in the world and everyone should tip him and be available all day outside of the agreed hours!

The sensible answers were, no don't worry the neighbours won't be bothered. Fine I'm happy with that.

OP - calm down!

If the neighbours are pissed off at being disturbed then its a one off and won't happen again. Your son or DIL can apologise if they complain or alternatively put a note through the door saying "we hope you weren't disturbed by our furniture delivery earlier today. It arrived somewhat earlier than we expected and hope it hasn't inconvenienced you in any way".

The drivers are given their loads and sent off out and delivery times are impacted by traffic or not. I suspect there may have been less traffic this morning as people had lie ins to sleep off their celebrating of the football last night!

Just be thankful they were early and not late like so many are or even worse the tales of deliveries that don't turn up at all!

Clubcuts · 04/07/2018 15:19

@ReservoirDogs being late would not have upset the neighbours though.... unless it was 10pm at night.

I'm actually quite pleased that my son was concerned for his new neighbours, didn't want to start off on the wrong foot!

The neighbors will get over it, a minor inconvenient blip in most people's day - that's if they were disturbed at all and there has been no sign so far that they were. If they do complain then it's up to your son to apologize and assure them it was a one-off occurrence out of his control. You calling to complain to the delivery company or where you bought the bed isn't going to change the fact it already happened - they can't wind back the clock and give you a do-over and I strongly suspect they won't much care. Beyond them giving you some kind of -likely insincere - apology what do you hope to achieve by complaining, OP?

lemonnmeringuepie · 04/07/2018 15:22

Wouldn't have bothered me if I was a neighbour as I imagine it will have been a one off, hopefully they're understanding!

Clubcuts · 04/07/2018 15:23

@ElementalHalfLife I covered all that in my first post.

OP posts:
FromAtoBin21months · 04/07/2018 15:32

OP are you always this rude towards people who don’t agree with you?

Clubcuts · 04/07/2018 15:32

@lemonnmeringuepie thanks that's all I'm trying to gauge. As much for the company to learn by as anything else. In fairness I shouldn't of used the word complain, more inform.

Because if the company are doing this regularly and it is winding people up they'll lose business.

Obviously I was wrong and that level of noise that early doesn't irritate people.

However on an alternative thread someone is contacting environmental health with evidence of loud noise after the football last night. So some people are noise and sleep sensitive.

This was never about them being early per se, more a worry for the neighbours.

OP posts:
ElementalHalfLife · 04/07/2018 15:33

So getting the driver into trouble is the outcome you're looking for? Knock yourself out then, because that's probably what they'll tell you will happen but more likely they'll say nothing to him because he was just doing the job they gave him and arriving early for his first drops might mean he managed to get his quota of other drops fulfilled in a timely manner.

Clubcuts · 04/07/2018 15:34

@FromAtoBin21months only ones that don't read and then comment with irrelevant answers! Common practise on MN to not read the first post!

OP posts:
Gooseygoosey12345 · 04/07/2018 15:43

@HairDyedPink my job pays handsomely thank you Wink paying customers can still be moany brats you know, they're not exclusive of each other.

Gooseygoosey12345 · 04/07/2018 15:43

Also, never said his job was the worst in the world but if you wanna be hyperbolic go ahead

gamerchick · 04/07/2018 15:56

Because if the company are doing this regularly and it is winding people up they'll lose business

They really won't Grin

You're not doing the public a service by complaining but you will give them a good laugh, so go ahead.

Horrordoeurvres · 04/07/2018 15:56

Honestly what would you actively like to gain from your complaint?
It's a pointless battle, your son has his bed and nobody complained, happy days. Stop looking for something to moan about. Confused

HairDyedPink · 05/07/2018 12:33

Gooseygoosey12345 you are the one who pretended that drivers are paid pittance!

Racecardriver · 05/07/2018 12:37

I don't think YABU. They said one thing but then did something else entirely. I for one would've pretty pissed off at being woken at half six for a delivery that wasn't supposed to get there until 7.
