Just back from a wonderful weekend away with two of my oldest friends (am looking decidedly pink!)
One has worked in the US for just shy of 20 years, has been married to an American for 13 and has two, American born children. She has never wanted to become a citizen - immediately after the election, she started the process and she became a US citizen last summer - purely so she could vote!
She said the ceremony was incredible and there were people from all walks of life whose journey to citizenship was much more arduous than hers. They were so proud to stand up! As part of the ceremony, you get a chance to say where you're originally from and why you wanted your citizenship and she said there were many, many people in that room of approx 60 people whose reason was to be able to vote.
My friend is utterly disgusted with the current situation as she lives in a red state who embrace all that Scrotus stands for. But whilst it's unlikely the tide will turn where she lives, she feels quietly confident that the midterms will start the change. I can only hope she's right!
